Hi, I share your disdain for phones with large screens.

But sadly, phone manufacturers have to follow consumer trends and the majority of people want big phones.
That's why Apple didn't make an iPhone 14 mini.

Anyhoo, the most accessible and powerful 5'-ish phones you can get are either the iPhone 12 mini or 13 mini.

But since you said you prefer an Android, you should check out the Asus Zenphone 9. This compact 5.9-inch screen is quite a bit smaller than most phones, but it doesn't suffer in quality at all thanks to its Super AMOLED display that's capable of reaching a 120Hz refresh rate. Plus, it's powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 and has 8GB of RAM to make sure you can accomplish everything you need. The Zenphone 10 also came out a while back, but expect it to be pricer.

Other notable mentions are

Samsung Galaxy S23 and Google Pixel 6a with a 6.1-inch screen each.

If you're looking for a budget device with a compact screen size, omo... you go find tire.

lol, I'm usually surprised how most people glorify the "gig" economy being created by the tech industry.
And to be very honest how many fintech start-ups do we really need? grin

Also the industry is prone to trends that get hyped up unnecessarily.
From the dot-com bubble
To the era of social media
To Uber type services (Airbnb, DoorDash, Etc)
To Cryptos and NFTs
To Web3
To The Metaverse
Now we're in the era of Generative AI.

The local job market for tech talents cannot absorb all the current candidates talk less of the young ones just getting started with their first Python tutorial smiley.

Romance / Re: The Moon Is An Artificial Satellite And I Have Verifiable Proof (photos) by RobinRay(m): 3:42pm On Jul 23, 2023
Ourtruth247:
Apollo mission Artificial Earthquake experiments

In November of 1969, the Apollo 12 crew sent their lunar module crashing down unto the moon, creating an artificial earthquake about 40 miles from their seismic devices. The ultra sensitive equipment recorded the crash and found that the moon rang like a bell for almost 40 minutes, taking almost 8 minutes to reach its peak.

It was so stunning that NASA decided to try it with an even heavier rocket in their next mission. So Apollo 13's module struck with the equivalent of 11 tonnes of TNT. Even though the seismic equipment was over 100 miles from the crash site, according to NASA, this time the moon rang like a gong again, reverberating for three full hours within the two kilometer radius of the landing

The outcome of these experiments are so unpredictable and shocking that most people simply refuse to entertain what they imply because it would shatter their held beliefs about the true nature of our world and of human history.

When you consider the perfect geometry and placement of the moon, the shallow craters, the unique "man-made" elements, the locked orbit and the hollow reverberation, it becomes pretty obvious that there is a lot more to this story and the moon itself beneath the surface.

I mean, it's basic physics...
It all comes down to water. On Earth, moisture in the materials helps absorb earthquake energy like a sponge, reducing its effects. But the Moon lacks water, so during moonquakes, vibrations keep bouncing around like a ringing bell until they fade away.

Ohhh also in your previous post you mentioned that all natural satellites orbit around their host planets' equators which is ummm, just so wrong...

But then again, screw simple explanations! everyone loves an audacious claim especially when you use big-sciencey words to buttress your points. smiley

Your threads, (albeit so scientifically inaccurate they come off as laughable) are also a relief from the mundane topics that litter this forum and actually encourage Nairalanders to ask critical questions. So big ups homie.

TV/Movies / Re: Animation Lovers, What Animation Are You Watching? by RobinRay(m): 2:18am On Jul 17, 2023
Babysho:

Is it weird to say you give me goosebumps?😅

I also have watched virtually all studio Ghibli, Ponyo, Howl's Moving Castle, Castle In The Sky,
Ocean Waves, Arietty, Spirited Away, When Marnie Was There, Princess Kaguya, The Wind Rises, My Neighbour Totoro, Princess Monoke,
Whisper Of The Heart, Nausicaa Of The Valley Of The Wind, Kiki's Delivery Service, Only Yesterday.
My favourite has to be Spirited Away and Only Yesterday; it's even my NL profile pic.

Arcane was finely done! It's a bummer that they discontinued it! I have a feeling you watched Love Death + Robots too.

Family Guy is just squeezing what's left at this point.

I can't even believe there'd be a Nigerian watching Tuca and Bertie like I do! I absolutely love animations with animals in it for some reason lol I think the animal related comedy is fresh + Tuca And Bertie is very colourful and realistic somewhat until Tuca does something crazy 😂. Favourite episode is Season 2 Episode 4.

Bojack Horseman. My favourite TV show of all time. I obsess over Bojack Horseman. I watched Bojack Horseman so much that I even finish their sentences most of the time. "Mr Peanut Butter and Bojack Horseman in the same room, what is this, a cross over episode?" My favourite episode, hard to pick one but it's Fish out of Water, season 3 episode 4. Favourite character Todd Chavez.

After Bojack Horseman, for me is Bob's Burgers.

You should watch The House, animated anthology movie.

my first encounter with Studio Ghibli movies was Spirited Away; I was initially drawn by the aesthetics of it all but it blossomed into an appreciation of the genius that is Hayao Miyazaki grin

Arcane was a weird one for me, I watched the first 2 episodes to see what the hype was about; I didn't know when I binged the whole season in one go, last I heard S2 might drop in early 2024...

LDR came out after I watched 5 seasons of Black Mirror, so it really satisfied my itch for anthologies at that point. S1 is the only season I can rewatch with no skips. My favourite episodes are The Secret War and probably Jibaro.

Tuca and Bertie is a must-watch for any fan of Bojack same goes with Undone.

Bojack Horseman singlehandedly raised my expectations of what a well-written show should be from the subtle jokes in the background to Princess Carolyn's tongue twisters to Todd's wacky schemes. Bojack Horseman is comedic perfection. My favourite episode? Free Churro S5E6; his eulogy at his mom's funeral. My favourite character has to be Princess Carolyn.

Bob Burgers and I can never seem to work grin, I just don't know why. Watched the first 2 seasons and I was like meh...

Thanks for the recommendation, I'll give it a watch smiley

Most Nigerians tend to assume animation is childish or redundant genre.

What they fail to realise is that it is a very very efficient medium of storytelling that live-action media could never replicate.

And it's incredibly diverse from animé to stop motion to 3d animation to conventional 2d animation.

Some of the best offerings I've seen this year in no particular order are:

Fired From Mars
The Boondocks (it's shocking how each episode can be applied to the Nigerian setting, we all know at least one Uncle Rukus)
Dr. Stone
Vinland Saga
Virtually all films by Studio Ghibli
When The Wind Blows
Arcane
Bojack Horseman
Family Guy/American Dad (not as comedic as earlier seasons anymore)
Undone
Tuca and Bertie
The Simpsons
Archer
and so on.

In summary, animation isn't a genre of media, but a medium by which complex stories are told in an engaging manner.

Birland is an unrecognized state that claims the Bir Tawil region between Sudan and Egypt.

Due to its status as de jure unclaimed territory, a number of individuals and organizations have attempted to claim Bir Tawil as a micronation.

Due to the remoteness and hostile climate of the region, the vast majority of these claims have been by declarations posted online from other locations.

None of these claims, or any others, have been recognized, officially or otherwise, by any government or international organization.

From the Canva-esque designs of the flag and coat of arms; any rational person should know they're a bunch of con-men giving themselves made up titles in order to scam individuals under the pretext of doing business with the "State of Birland"

people tend to forget culture is subject to change.

a rational society apply these changes based on utilitarian values (how beneficial it is to the average person).

if a majority of cultural group decides to change something, it will change; whether you are in support or not.

All major cultural groups are changing in Nigeria due to globalization. No matter how you try to demonize it, it is a natural response to be able to better adapt in a globalized world.

almost all plants that are farmed commercially have been genetically modified.

if you see a "natural" watermelon or banana. it will be almost unrecognizable from your normal idea of what those fruits are.

GMO's have been in the Nigerian diet for decades now.
from our tomato, to our rice, to chickens (broilers).
they have been modified to provide better yield.
