There are two additional ways in which you can treat your fish if you observe that they are dying.

1) Get bitter leaf (ewuro), it should be as many as possible. Put little water inside the leaf and squeezed it very well (gbo dada) in such a way that all the vitality will be extracted during squeezing. After which you are to drain the water in the pond, leave little water to cover their body and pour the squizzed water into the pond. You are to leave them for 12 hours before feeding


2) Another one is to get formalin (can be purchase from any store that sells chemical for weeds), you will mix with water depending on how big your pond is, you then sprinkle it inside your pond. PLEASE note you don't need to drain your water before applying but, make sure water does not enter and water does not go out. You are to feed them after 12 hours.


No matter the nature of their sickness, it will flush out the disease.

hello sir, thank you so much for asking after my harvest. i sold about 90%. so busy to go for the remaining 10%. just visited this last weekend and arranged for the remaining harvest next weekend.

so far so good.

will only read here for now pending when i will start a new farm.

sir Robonski plz can 15k monthly budget on feeding alone take 1000 fingerlings for three months, if no plz suggest the number of fingers it can take conviniently for 3 months.

My Oga, no be small thing o, it an eye opener, i must confess that it was painfully exciting. Anyway let me discuss my mistakes

MY MISTAKES:
1.Stress: My mistakes started from the construction of my pond, rather than use the conventional outlet with big pipe that will allow water to flow rapidly from the pond thereby reducing the stress period of fish during changing of water, my outlet can take as much as two hours before water is drain from the pump and another 3 hour to pump water into the pump because i used the smallest pipe to run water from the tank to the pond.

2. Seed: Though i bought my fingerling from a reputable farm, yet what i bought was not sorted to guarantee even growth thereby making some fish to grow faster than the other
Also my seed cannot be said to be the first set which some people call shooters

3. Feeding: Rather than start with 1.2-1.5 which contain 56% protein to boost their growth regardless of what they ve be eating from where bought it, I started feeding my fish with 2mm simply because the fish was already eating 2mm from where i bough it.

4. Water Management: From my previous write-up, it was clear to me that there was no magic that would have made my fish attain reasonable weight at 4month

Before, i talk about my success, my Ogas who i believe have once be in my shoe should share with us how they were able to turn things around when they found themselves in this my situation

gudday to you all, pls I eed an urgent soutin to a problem. I hatched on thursday, and twa very successful. I started feeding yesterday with egg yolk mxed with antibiotics. This morning I changed to artemia but by the time I checked them in the afternoon, most of them were lying on top of water with swollen tummy filled with water. I tried to feed them but they didn't respond. I am so confused that I don't know what to do next. Pls what could be the problem. Is it the artemia I fed them or the antibiotics ie chloramphenicol and tetracycline mixed with the egg yolk. Or maybe the broodstock is infected. How is broodstock treated before using them. This is very urgent so that I will not lose all the fries. Thanks

If you are looking forward for melange, then project around #150 for each cat. That means for the 1200 juveniles, project around 40 bags of feeds for them.

Greetings to everyone in the house. Please, I have a serious proble and wud be glad if u guys can help me out. I've had several terrible experiences with buying fingerlings in the past - slow growth and deaths. So, I wud like to start producing my own seed to be sure of what I stock. But the problem is that I've tried hatching several times but always, the fries die before 5 or 6 days of management. There's a certain white cotton-like substance that seems go grow in the water and kill them. Please what do I do? Can anyone help me with step by step guide of how to manage them. Secondly, what size of net mesh do I need for incubation to ensure complete seperation of hatchlings and dead eggs and shells. God bless u guys plenty. Thanks in anticipation of ur help.

My greetings to Rabonski,Ab1x,excelsiorfarm and all other great contributors to this thread, i started catfish farming(earthen pond) earlier this year after going through this thread, still learning sha but i have harvested one of my ponds although i couldn't get my capital because the mortality rate was high, however i am thinking of going into hatchery. To all the gurus how much will it take to start a hatchery and what can i do to minimize mortality rate Thanks and God bless

What i lost in earthen pond is mind bugling and i have decided to probably never go back to earthen ponds . . . .But it doesnt mean that others cant make money from it......

Please the GENERALS in the house the pictures bellow is what I noticed from my earthen pond of three weeks.
What do I do my GENERAL? The fish is not dead but has some pilling wounds like on its body.

Infact, this is the major problem we are facing now. Cost of feeds have risen enormously, other operational costs are almost unbearable and fast growing fingerlings are rare to come by this days but the prices of fish remains almost static and unencouraging

Pls someone should verify this statement, Mr Robonski said that he spent roughly 650,000 on feeding 4000 fiishes, that means to feed 10,000 should be roughly estimated at 1.7mills. We are all learning here, thanks.

But what do you expect when you live in a swampy land that was previously a thick forest patrolled by different animals? Why are we Nigerians quick to call snakes "beasts" or "evil?" What is the poor creature supposed to do now that the Lagos State Government has decided to convert every patch of land into a developed mega city? We as a nation have no regards for environmental conservation or cohabitating happily with other animals. Tomorrow we will be beating our chest as the biggest economy in Africa, yet we act like uncivilized bonobos. I doubt that snake was even poisonous to begin with, but you will insist on calling it a beast just like you call cats witches.

Good morning to everyone in the house, Thanks to all who have imparted knowledge in the best way they can, I'm Opeoluwa, my husband and I are into fish farming .....On May 3rd, he -stocked his pond with 4000 pieces of fingerlings with the hope that he'll get some money from a cooperative institution to finance the feeding of the fish, but was all to no avail as we keep borrowing money in small amounts just to feed the fish every week, there was this time(last week) the fish didn't feed for up to a week, recently we got some money to feed but I noticed that the fish are aren't growing, majority of them are still melange and I noticed that they're overcrowded , note that we can sort cos we are only managing d money we have on us....
Pls experts in the house advice me on how not to run into total loss on this present one we are rearing, given all the conditions stated above.....Thanks in anticipation of your response .
