Bro to be factual that money wont be enough to buy tanks, fingerlings and feeding..

No cut corners, even a good local feed is more expensive than some foreign feed these days. Feed quality to harvest quality.

1.8mm and 2mm is too small for post juveniles.. 3mm is the ideal size to feed juveniles.

Depends on the size of the fish, three days is enough, but the bones and skull will be visible.

Where is your locations sir, there are farms that sell parent stock.. Buy only above 1kg and test the female to know if she is ripe enough. check agricnetwork for more info.

When i go and get fingerlings, will i put them in the fish pond straight, after disinfecting them tho, and what feed grade will i start with? and how will i change the grades per month till they reach maturity? how will i feed them per month, hw many times per day? I will like to know if there is anyone currently using Top feed in the house. it is been sold for N3900 in Osogbo compare to Vital feed of 4500 but I don't just want to go for it because of low price without knowing its effect on the growth of fish. Thanks.

I Have never used top feed before so I cant give a proper judgment.. Pls who is currently using topfeed in the house should tell us about it.

Hello sir, one thing I usually tell first timers is to start small, fish farming is beyond digging ponds and stocking large amount of fishes. first learn some management techniques with some fishes before you expand. 30k fishes is way too much sir I must be honest with you.

If you have a good swampy area for earthen pond I will advice you start with two earthen ponds 40ft by 45ft with a depth of 4 feet each , though it will contain 5000 fishes comfortably but stock 2k in each pond for a start then start learning the management techniques as members of the house drop some info to guide you, then you can expand after harvest.

I will advice you replace topfeed with vital feed.. multifeed and zeilger are in high demand also.

Just as mercylicious advice you check the p.h of the water before use. You can get di-calcium phosphate to treat the water.

On average seeing 0.8kg - 1.2kg... though the harvest is still ongoing... Sorting was a bit of a challenge cos of the 2 faulty ponds i have. In addition, i had some hitches during the culture period... feed availability and water quality management issues that i am to address in the next run.

kudos ... How much have u spent on feeding so far?

Right now I don't even know the exact sales of a kg. As everyone is selling at a different price based on location.. At 4 month a fish should be weighing nothing less than 0.7 grm on the average.

Hw much can does it take to feed 1 fish till maturity (tot I read N135 in this thread) so I can knw hw much I wd be budgeting for feeding in my next farming.

Boss melange goes for 350 to 380 naira..budget 250 naira to feed one fish to maturity..

exactly we need a union that will specialized on d buying and selling Cos' this extortion from d baba elejas and Iya elejas is much so much frustrated to the extent of giving up in fish farming Cos' it's not easy been laboured for 5 months plus still got loss from it. in fact if I remember all d loss of d profit I usually weep Cos' it pains me hard so painful to me when people cheat me in a way that av been well informed than ever before.

My bro gather yourself together and lets get back to the drawing board. I also failed three times but I didn't give up, infact I was owing people money here and there from the money I borrowed for feeding..To me catfish business is a GAME and if you don't play well you will ultimately loose out. be strong, keep your head up, remember there is always light at the end of the tunnel..

Wait o, you allowed buyers use their scale? Why? Why don't you also compare and contrast with your scale and see if what the fishes weigh on their scale it weigh in yours too?

I was with my manager last month when he sold fishes, he took total charge, he used like two scales to compare and contrast. When they both gave conflicting weights he said he is not selling until he get a third scale. Also he never mind those sellers crying of how Inconvenienting it is for them to go back and return the next day.

My fishes are doing well. Thank God I quickly start buying the feed on my own. Will sell them next month by God's grace at five months.
