It seems maybe these leaders don't trust Peter Obi with power. He should meet with them and maybe talk to them so they would feel less threatened and more receptive to his candidacy. Atiku too should have consulted them. These people don't want to rendered politically useless in case Atiku/Obi wins. Their fears should be allayed.

As long as Buhari backs and annoints Osinbajo (or any other Yoruba man) as his successor, it's as good as done. As the days and weeks go by, I am sure the more pragmatic Igbo leaders will realize they are chasing shadows with this Atiku project because the guy will surely lose. Sanwo-Olu and Tinubu had to do that by accommodating and reaching out to Fouad Oki, Fashola, and Muiz Banire faction. For Buhari himself not to allow him to completely have his way should be enough to make him soft-pedal on his stubbornness. No permanent enemy in politics but permanent interest.

You haven't explained why a man would forfeit nearly half a million if the man was innocent.

Why should I explain why he forfeited any money? The crux of the matter is that 1. The U.S government as thorough and efficient/effective as they are never found enough evidence to indict (let alone convict) him of any crime, 2. You have yet to prove your earlier allegation that he was indicted and convicted of drugs related offence or crime (in the real world you have to prove your accusation else you are just talking crap), 3. Bola Tinubu can visit America anytime he chooses, but your Atiku is smart enough not to try that (he has very very competent lawyers who are advising him against that, obviously), 4, Tinubu will not be the one facing Atiku at the polls, Buhari is, so why are you attacking Tinubu?

The onus is on you to show that he was 'indicted' and 'convicted' as you have been claiming. If the U.S government could not indict or convict him of what you are accusing him of, then you are merely blowing hot air. The U.S has released the documents in their file against Tinubu, Sahara Reporters has made it available for everyone to scrutinize. If you have evidence of his indictment and conviction for drug running, present them here for us all to see. I repeat, Tinubu frequently visits the U.S as a free man. No indictment, no conviction (except in your mind). Can Atiku do the same? Can Atiku visit America?
