googi:You are roping too many time epochs into one in order to create a single chosen narrative, that Africans sold out themselves etc. In the 1330s and for 500 years after that, Africans had no reason to fear, and experienced no major foreign invasions. They were militarily powerful. They had gold. What to do? Just keep the gold and hide it, out of fear that (500 years later) they would be invaded by powerful, greedy Europeans?? Of what profit would that be to them? Gold, like other treasures, are traded for profit. So they had to showcase their wares to a world largely ignorant about West and Central Africa. The reason Europeans invaded the continent centuries later was pure greed allied to military superiority. Nothing more, nothing less. Don't blame Africans for that. |
Smithkafors:And the white man that issued the arrest warrant is what......? Onukwu. |
NLSavage:No, but their religion may affect their objectivity. |
googi:This is a very unfair and misleading analysis. Mana Musa lived in the 1330s! A full 500 years before the colonial drive to grab the riches of Africa. In HIS TIME and long afterwards, no power on earth could defeat the Mali Empire. So he had the military power. He had wealth. What his empire lacked was exposure - for the outside world to know the Mali Empire - and increase trade and diplomatic relations thereby. So how do you do that? How do you show the world you are worthy to deal with? Remember this was in the days before modern media, internet, radio, TV, etc. What you do is exactly what Mansa Musa did. You send an impressive entourage laden with gold, silk and fine horses, to the nearest cosmopolitan hub. At the time - Cairo, Egypt. And it paid off for his empire. He returned to Mali with new trade commitments from various nations, and was followed back by numerous intellectuals including architects and surveyors. The visit definitely increased the number of international students who studied at Mali's elite universities. So please, don't use Mansa Musa the Great as a stick to beat Africans with. He was a superb leader who brought great wealth, peace, prosperity, and international reckoning to his empire. |
NLSavage:Christian historians? |
Jabioro:You are the one who is ignorant. Name one book you've read on the topic, or even on African history in general. Lemme guess: Zero? |
BiafraIShere:Which ''first world'' countries? Dude, go to Jamaica or Rwanda, you will see they build their roads with sidewalks in every situation, even in their poor areas. You have no excuse, and no, I am not from Lagos as you blindly insinuated above. |
Where are the sidewalks for pedestrians? Bush people. Open gutter specialists. Don't join your mates around the world in the 21st century. www.nairaland.com/attachments/8114218_6774220egbeadajpegjpegbd3ece9146343b9e143d5f3b7835d233_jpegbca3101d3149e4265885ccbf011dc835 ' ' ' How normal people build their streets: https://nacto.org/wp-content/themes/sink_nacto/views/design-guides/retrofit/urban-street-design-guide/images/sidewalks/carousel//retail-sidewalk.jpg |
ProtectMyMoney:No. |
ProtectMyMoney:That's the thing I don't get. How do you do fraud and invest it in an airline? An airline is such a public thing that it's crazy to think you will not be looked into at some point. He should have gone into something less flamboyant, like real estate or something. |
Here's Pharaoh Narmer (also known as Menes 1) - 3100 BC. He was the founder of Egypt and the first to unite the two lands, north and south, to form the Egyptian empire. I think he looks like OBJ. ............... |
Statue of Queen Tiye. Dated 1338 BC Dunno about you guys, but for me, she definitely looks like she's got Yoruba genes in her. I can't tell you you how many Yoruba babes I've met that look almost exactly like her. https://i.pinimg.com/originals/1a/1c/c0/1a1cc02059c09954318210012d1f88d3.jpg |
This is not good. |
Sukueponmalu:lol....same here...Sometimes when you try to discuss something deep or intellectual with her, her face changes, and you will even wonder if there is something wrong with you. |
ernieboy:You are WRONG. Manufacturing DOES NOT have to ''start from design stage''. Anybody can design the product. You do not rewrite the rules of industry just to suit your inferiority complex. Assembly is the SAME THING as manufacturing. That is why in the US, car manufacturing plants are called auto assembly plants. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_automotive_assembly_plants_in_the_United_States Most car plants import or buy locally, the various components they use to assemble their vehicles. NONE make all the parts themselves, not least because that would be economically unviable for any firm. THERE IS NO DIFFERENTIATION between ''assembly'' and ''manufacturing'' anywhere on earth, except among ignorant people in Nigeria. ASSEMBLY LINE: ''An assembly line is a manufacturing process (often called a progressive assembly) in which parts (usually interchangeable parts) are added as the semi-finished assembly moves from workstation to workstation where the parts are added in sequence until the final assembly is produced. By mechanically moving the parts to the assembly work and moving the semi-finished assembly from work station to work station, a finished product can be assembled faster and with less labor than by having workers carry parts to a stationary piece for assembly. Assembly lines are common methods of assembling complex items such as automobiles and other transportation equipment, household appliances and electronic goods.'' https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Assembly_line innoson simply imports them as knocked downs and assemblesWRONG. Innoson started off by doing that, but over the last decade, they have built several factories at their Nnewi plant which now produce most of those components here in Nigeria, plus they source components from other local manufacturers, so that the local content in every INNOSON vehicle today is over 70%. |
EgunMogaji2:Who has time to argue with a know nothing like you? Whose fault is it you don't read or research before spewing your rubbish? ''The company runs its plant in Nnewi, Anambra State, with 70 percent of the car parts produced locally, while the rest are sourced from Japan, China, and Germany. Innoson vehicles are currently being used in some West African countries like Mali, Sierra Leone and Ghana.'' http://venturesafrica.com/is-zimbabwe-about-to-lose-its-biggest-foreign-donor/ ''Over 60% of the parts used are sourced locally, creating employment opportunities via local manufacturing of components. Inaugurated in 2010, IVM has produced thousands of automobiles to date, ranging from heavy-duty vehicles, patrol vans, pick-up vans, SUVs, mini and long buses and saloon cars. These automobile products are quite affordable compared to the foreign brands and are also built to cruise easily on the Nigerian roads.'' https://themarketmogul.com/innoson-vehicle-manufacturing-first-made-nigeria-cars/ |
EgunMogaji2:None of this garbage obviates what I said. Plus INNOSON sources over 70 percent of its vehicle components from local manufacturers, making it an authentic Nigerian brand. |
EgunMogaji2:Stop talking rubbish. Assembly is the EXACT SAME THING as manufacturing. It is a uniquely Nigerian ignorance that claims otherwise. All over the world, car manufacturing plants are known as car ASSEMBLY plants. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_automotive_assembly_plants_in_the_United_States Here: Dictionary: Manufacturing: The process of converting raw materials, components, or parts into finished goods that meet a customer's expectations or specifications. Manufacturing commonly employs a man-machine setup with division of labor in a large scale production. http://www.businessdictionary.com/definition/manufacturing.html |
anochuko01:Absolutely. INNOSON must set up a facility to employ our engineering sciences and research graduates, and get into serious R & D. We lack nothing in this country in terms of intellectual ability. All we need is confidence. There are some private companies in this same world that are releasing prototypes of flying cars, as we speak. These will get more popular in the coming years. No reason we cannot join that level by getting into R & D now, and becoming the future suppliers of all Africa and beyond. |
There's no two ways of looking at it. We're on the path to industrialisation. Hopefully we can increase power generation and distribution substantially over the next few years. I trust Mr President to find a solution. Wait and see. ![]() |
galadima77:NIGERIA: The construction of a rolling stock rail assembly plant at Kajola in Ogun state was launched when Vice-President Yemi Osinbanjo attended a groundbreaking ceremony on November 9. https://d1c4d7gnm6as1q.cloudfront.net/Pictures/780xany/1/8/2/28182_nigerianrollingstockplantgroundbreakingceremony1_899513.jpg Nigerian rolling stock plant groundbreaking ceremony Minister of Transportation Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi said the plant on the Lagos – Ibadan railway would be the first of its kind in Nigeria. It is to be used to assemble locomotives, coaches, wagons and diesel multiple-units for domestic use, as well as for export to other countries in West Africa. The plant is being built under a March 2018 agreement between the Ministry of Transportation and the local subsidiary of China Civil Engineering Construction Corp. The Chinese company selected the site for the plant, which it said would undertake production processes including welding, assembly, painting and testing, with a capacity of 500 vehicles per year. https://d1c4d7gnm6as1q.cloudfront.net/Pictures/480xAny/1/8/4/28184_nigerianrollingstockplantgroundbreakingceremony2_984969.jpg Nigerian rolling stock plant groundbreaking ceremony The first batch of wagons to be built would be used for freight services on the 1 435 mm gauge Lagos — Ibadan and Abuja — Kaduna routes, with passenger vehicles to follow. ‘By linking our ports to rail lines and now, building the rolling stock locally, import and export business within and outside of Africa’s largest market will be completely transformed’, said Osinbanjo. He said a commitment to local recruitment ‘affirms the President’s directives on prioritising Nigerians and Nigerian businesses in the innovation, production and procurement of engineering projects.’ https://www.railwaygazette.com/business/construction-of-nigerian-rolling-stock-factory-begins/55094.article |
At the rate we're going, I see us becoming the greatest manufacturing nation in Africa by the middle of this century. Hopefully Ajaokuta steel will be completed finally, and then we would really take off. |
Nigeria Begins Export of Military Hardware Erwan de Cherisey, Paris - Jane's Defence Weekly Nigerian defence manufacturer Proforce has signed a contract for the sale of 20 of its new Ara 2 mine-resistant ambush-protected (MRAP) vehicles. Ara 2 MRAP https://www.janes.com/images/assets/877/89877/p1748657.jpg The company did not wish to disclose the name of the customer, only acknowledging that the purchase was made by an African country. However, a source with knowledge of the deal told Jane’s that the client is Chad. According to the same source, the deal was finalised in June 2019 and deliveries are expected to begin before the end of the year in successive batches of five vehicles. Chadian interest in the Ara 2 was reportedly prompted when Chadian President Idriss Déby observed Nigerian Police Proforce PF2 armoured vehicles in Abuja during a visit last year. Talks were then held in Chad regarding the Chadian Army’s need for MRAPs, which eventually led to the capital N’Djamena’s decision to procure the Ara 2. https://www.janes.com/article/89877/nigeria-s-proforce-gets-first-mrap-export-order |
Cherrybae:I bet 10000% she is better looking than you.... Dumb, jealous fool. Madam bleaching expert. |
henrydadon:Absolute garbage. You cannot be a Nigerian-owned company and a Chinese-owned company at the same time in the absence of a merger or joint venture. We know of no such arrangements with Innoson. You must be new to how big business operates. I would say this new plant is absolutely fantastic, and is another indicator that Nigeria is fully on the path to industrialisation. A few years ago on this forum, this development would have been discussed as a Nigerian achievement far and above an 'Igbo' achievement. I think the emphasis on ethnicity diminishes us. Grow up, gentlemen. The rest of the world sees us as just 'Nigerians'. |
Obi1kenobi:Err...no one is asking Israel to be a ''paradise beyond reproach''. Just to return the lands they stole and robbed MILLIONS of innocent people of, and to apologise to God and man for the millions they have slaughtered in the region either directly or through their subordinates in the region. You do NOT get to get way with mass murder, ethnic cleansing and theft by stating ''hey, we got rid of the original population here, killed and locked them in ghettoes where we deny them basic rights, and built a paradise for ourselves on their land! So it's all good!'' Sure, in your satanic mind that's ok, but not according to God and Man, Mr Obi Wan.ker-nobi white boy pretending to be Nigerian. I talk about the failings of many places in Nigeria, yet my own state is not heaven.Shut up. You're not a Nigerian. Liar. You're not an African. You are a white racist who infested this forum long ago and is here to demean Africans. "Stealing land" has nothing to do with prosperity. Stop being stewpid. Land is just land, until you add value to it.Really? So why didn't the Israelis just go and acquire some virgin territory in the desert? Why did they have to go and seize/rob millions of Palestinians of their ancestral land? A crime that persists till today? You are a demonic liar, but your lies will deceive nobody here. Israel has huge reserves of natural gas directly off their coast, that has powered their economy for decades. They got that because they stole valuable land belonging to the Palestinians. And Israel's land is not particularly endowed. They added value to their land with their ingenuity and industry. It is NOT ''their land''. See, you are a shameless thief and vandal yourself, so you see nothing wrong in claiming the property of others as yours. Just as you stole a Nigerian's identity and claimed it as yours even though you are a white boy neo nazi skinhead racist sent here to insult Africans. And yes, they built a first world nation out of nothing but sand.LIAR. Your jealousy doesn't change facts. Israeli Jews are on a different planet in productivity and enterprise and innovation from the whole African continent combined. You could pick out more geniuses from 1 million Jews than 1 billion Africans. Deal with it.RETURN THE STOLEN PALESTINIAN LANDS. YOU ARE NOT A ''GENIUS'' OR ''INTELLIGENT'' IF YOU ROB AND STEAL AND KILL FROM YOUR FELLOW HUMAN BEINGS, THEN CONFINE YOUR VICTIMS TO GHETTOES WHILE YOU FEAST ON THEIR PROPERTY. YOUR FELLOW CORRUPT HUMANS MAY GIVE YOU A 'NOBEL PRIZE' FOR THAT AND CALL YOU '''GENIUSES', BUT GOD THE CREATOR WILL DESTROY YOU FOR THAT..... JUST WAIT AND SEE.... |
Amazing profile of a genius: Wole Soyinka is a Nigerian playwright, poet and essayist. He was awarded the 1986 Nobel Prize in Literature, the first African to be honoured in that category. .. In 1954, he attended Government College in Ibadan, and subsequently University College Ibadan and the University of Leeds in England. After studying in Nigeria and the UK, he worked with the Royal Court Theatre in London. He went on to write plays that were produced in both countries, in theatres and on radio. He took an active role in Nigeria's political history and its struggle for independence from Great Britain. In 1965, he seized the Western Nigeria Broadcasting Service studio and broadcast a demand for the cancellation of the Western Nigeria Regional Elections. In 1967, during the Nigerian Civil War, he was arrested by the federal government of General Yakubu Gowon and put in solitary confinement for two years. Soyinka has been a strong critic of successive Nigerian governments.... Much of his writing has been concerned with "the oppressive boot and the irrelevance of the colour of the foot that wears it". During the regime of General Sani Abacha (1993–98), Soyinka escaped from Nigeria on a motorcycle via the "NADECO Route." Abacha later proclaimed a death sentence against him "in absentia." With civilian rule restored to Nigeria in 1999, Soyinka returned to his nation. In Nigeria, Soyinka was a Professor of Comparative Literature (1975 to 1999) at the Obafemi Awolowo University, then called the University of Ife. With civilian rule restored to Nigeria in 1999, he was made professor emeritus. While in the United States, he first taught at Cornell University as Goldwin Smith professor for African Studies and Theatre Arts from 1988 to 1991 and then at Emory University, where in 1996 he was appointed Robert W. Woodruff Professor of the Arts. Soyinka has been a Professor of Creative Writing at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, and has served as scholar-in-residence at New York University's Institute of African American Affairs and at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles, California, US. He has also taught at the universities of Oxford, Harvard and Yale. Soyinka was also a Distinguished Scholar in Residence at Duke University, Durham, North Carolina, in 2008. In December 2017, he was awarded the Europe Theatre Prize in the "Special Prize" category awarded to someone who has “contributed to the realization of cultural events that promote understanding and the exchange of knowledge between peoples”. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wole_Soyinka |
Dedetwo:He is a novelist. He wrote The Interpreters and Season of Anomy. He is also a playwright, poet and essayist. |
gidgiddy:Israel has just 8 million mouths to feed while Nigeria has 200 million. Israel can easily feed and house 8 million folks with their billions of dollars in US aid per year, and use the rest for technology or whatever. Nigeria has no such luxury. And this ''poverty capital'' nonsense is also highly misleading and a needless smear, as it conveniently omits the fact that Nigeria has the 2nd largest middle class in Africa after Egypt, making it a major hub of wealth generation on the continent. https://qz.com/africa/1486764/how-big-is-africas-middle-class/ |
gidgiddy:You say ''despite'' as if their atrocities are somehow a hindrance to them. It is precisely because of their oppression and theft of others' lands - trampling on the weak - while receiving billions of $ in US aid - astronomical for a nation of just 8 million people, that they are ''doing well as a country'', or even existing as a country. Imagine today that the people of Ikoyi used their mega money to organise the expulsion of everyone from Lagos mainland in order to claim it for a new ''Ikoyi republic''.. And they achieve this through war, massacres, and land seizures, slaughtering millions and displacing millions more, and then a few years later, the entire mainland looks like Ikoyi, with a few rich people populating it, while the former residents of the mainland are caged in their millions in hideous ghettos far away.. Would you go around praising 'Ikoyi Republic' for creating ''a great country''? |
Obi1kenobi:Err... no it's not. If he's gonna criticise Nigeria, we need to look at where he is coming from, which is Israel, a country that has MAJORITY of the world's nations at the UN voting against its oppression of the Palestinians whose lands they seized and still occupy. Fact is millions of Jews fled Europe, the Middle East and North Africa to Israel and founded a successful, wealthy, enterprising, resourceful, innovative first-world nation whose high tech sector is the envy of the world - 2nd only to Silicon ValleyBy stealing and robbing others of their land? I know in your soulless brain, the end justifies the means. So what if millions of women and children are slaughtered and robbed? Hey we build great computers. The ''envy of the world''. The world will not descend to your depravity and barbarism. and they did it on a largely barren land with next to nothing in natural resources. They get billions of dollars in US aid and technology transfer each year, plus (politically driven) easy access to western markets for their finished products (something denied African countries via sky-high tariffs etc). What are you talking about? Stop pretending like they were just stuck out there in the desert, and then brilliance and inspiration just came to them, and they built a ''first world nation'' out of nothing but sand. Save that fairytale BOLLOCKS for your fellow racist simpletons and airhead goons. They accomplished this while Nigeria, with all its natural and mineral resources and arable land remains an unproductive shiithole. So, if Israelis are talking about how to run a successful, productive nation, shut up and listen.Israel has only 8 million people. Since the 1940s, they've received countless billions of dollars each year, from the US. They can literally be ''anything they wanna be'', with little stress. Culturally, ethnically, and religiously homogeneous, with no real internal conflicts, they do not face the challenges of a multicultural, multilingual, multi-ethnic, multi-religious 200 million strong behemoth like Nigeria established by Europeans at the ignoble Berlin conference of 1884. A country designed solely for the evacuation of resources to Europe. Can't blame us too much for needing some time to sort out the mess.. Blame your greedy forbears, white boy. |
