However you still need an equipment that can see through walls/studs when you’re setting out a n awkward shaped standalone building that is emerging from an existing building.

You have to:
- cut through walls
- cut through floors
- cut through slabs
- and still ensure the structure aligns and come out clean.

It’s the 3rd time that the new commissioner for physical planning has visited my project since he assume office few weeks ago.

The question many people were asking was how did we achieve that project

I think a better way to render the bolded is

Build your slab on fill so it doesn’t act like a suspended slab.

When suspended slabs are designed, one of the main thing we design and check for is Deflection.

Owing that your ground slab is sitting on a well compacted fill and hardcore we are not supposed to experience any form of deflection.

Hence it shouldn’t act as a suspended slab, and as such should not be reinforced as one.

No structural engineer will design such

That means it’s recommended for oversite concrete sir, unless it stated to use either 6mm -8mm-10mm or more in special occasion ( real ground slab) if not you are good to go.
The real purposed is to save the slab( German floor … over-site conc ) from cracks

Well, I didn't rule out the importance of using good sharp sand compacting well especially in raft foundation...but then it's expected for ground floor slab to stand well even if filling collapse in the future hence necessity for well reinforced ground slab just like suspended slab


I once raised alarm sometimes last year a builder here.( Which is even chatting on this page now ) did a foundation even very close to where we are working now with just wire mesh



Our slogan: we do structures right... it's not mere saying

But RBC ( wire mesh) is WELL recommended for ground slab in all building book and in practice also

Though the type of sharp sands used in Lekki and other non-cohesive fill materials are less liable to shrinkage, we must understand they are more liable to being flushed out by water flow when it continues to percolate through a foundation.
So we cannot overlook the influence of water content on different types of soil when choosing fill materials in different sites especially in waterlogged areas.

Reason why it essential to compact any filling very well PREFERABLE IN LAYERS.
More so erosion can only acted on such foundation if it’s on real erosion water way,
That is if the foundation wasn’t built very well. If not the water will just be playing around the foundation.

Can you please explain what you mean by site investigation? I currently have some guys from the Lagos State Safety Commission on my site requesting that I get the project certified before I can start it. It is a residential project.

Your architect, builder, engr needs to visit your site before any work can be Carried out on your site, that is the best practice.

Concerning the safety commission guys you talked about it’s there duties to make sure your site is safe for construction so you need document for that ..it’s around 200-250k that is the standard rate but you can talk to them
So your site and workers must follow safety compliance rules

Some building projects were abandoned till today bcs of site investigations, all was just on paper then boom work start on site …so site investigation” is paramount in anything construction.

We are here battling with our excavation..
N3xt don’t ask me if I have another Levelling instrument oo. It s good to have tools and instruments.

Manual excavation.
I spent only 25days to delivered the bakery carcass plus plastering and windows installation
We now have only 15days to deliver the finishings total N40days.
Cost only $6000
