toyeoye: People will try and discourage you but go for it bro, I did and it makes sense. They will say it's not our culture, no privacy, they will have to offer visitors food when they want to eat, the heat will be overwhelming, the smell of food will be everywhere etc but it has turned out well.
1. Plan very well and be particular about where you want every item in the kitchen even during construction. 2. Make room for cross ventilation by adding extra windows to eliminate heat, include an a/c and in my case, heat extractor fans which is efficient and not bogus like the hooded vents. 3. You guys have to be neat people. In my case, madam is more obsessed with cleanliness and everywhere is always spotless. 4. Because the kitchen is SHOW OFF ,the equipments, pots and furniture must be solid and should ideally compliment the space e.g all the gadgets are black and chrome and some upper cupboards have no doors to arrange plates, pots, flower vases etc.
Best of luck bro. But with all these can average Nigerian get all these done in every home like advance country where everything work as planned . My answer is NO NO So why not go for simple close kitchen that will safe you all these stress and cost. Your last statement say it all “THE KITCHEN IS LIKE SHOW OFF. So why going for show off, to impress or oppress people? |

toyeoye: Have you actually lived in one for a while or these are just theories in your head using common sense. I'm surprised when I see people confidently say these things My answer is simple. I think with my age/ my experience in build environment and my stay in w/Africa i know what is good for average w/African home. No body says it’s not doable here bcs I have work on such before. So, do what you know it’s best for you and your family Soooo simple. Abi bawo ? |

n3xt: It’ll work though BUT not without huge sacrifices
I know quite a number of ppl who have this. I also have it in one of my recent designs - a complete open plan living. I know it will work and I have some people with this design too, So its possible to have two kitchens in a residential building like MAIN KITCHEN and SATELLITE KITCHEN 2 in 1 …..: you divide your food cooking systems into two. But my take on it is that when we talk about typical NIGERIA kitchen where real local food will be prepare like EFo riro, Ofe Owerri. Edi nka ikon…. Real pounded yam …..FORGET about fully or partially open kitchen design it won’t work here YES I said so. You can’t compare the way you cook Nigeria food here to the way you cook it in Florida, villa, Nebraska or Ottawa. Abii Iceland or Norway. |

oyin4luv: Good morning, I have a water challenge in my apartment, water is not coming into the house but there is water inside the tank, same for my neighbour. We called the plumber and he said the pipe is blocked that we should lay another pipe that will either be underground or surface for the two flat. My question is 1. what will the estimate be like. 2.is it possible to flush the pipe to get rid of dirt and sand. Quick answer Q1- I don’t know the total length of your building and your location plus other factors this will determine the cost 2. I don’t think you can get tools that will do the flushing for you in your area. |

n3xt: Everywhere you turn, you’d almost hit a brick.
- Hausas now ride Okada instead of doing labour work. The hausa labourers you‘d see today are inexperienced and very lazy Hausas. The first thing you’ll hear from them is “How mush I go pay?” - Because of the increase in demand for their service, Togolese & Cotonou artisans now use apprentice for their jobs. - Yorubas now do Yahoo+ and Cultism - Igbo artisans would rather do jobs that pays more.
N2,500 per day is really not cutting it anymore for most of these guys. Oga, you are 10000 pec right on this. Just last week my friend paid 4000 for Labour, just one Labour ooo per day for concrete work. Infact I don’t know how to give Labour cost again in each region. Same thing happened to me in eastern part in one of our ongoing project ..plastering A Labour demands for 5k per day. The demand choke the client. Until we import Labour from the far 50-60km from the site project … that still collected 3-3500 per day. |

Jasobry: Please show me where to faint Naa so we se am oo. Actually I'm not fans of very low quality paints. Every year you keep repainting. Like I quoted up there ,this project is dulux finishing paint. Since 2017,The external still look like newly painted building. But by using far low quality paint that flooded mkt now, believe me be ready to repaint every now and then. Then check how much it will cost you to do this at all time till you get tired of it.

n3xt: Smiles.
I understand you though. If it accidentally spills, it spills. Nothing happen.
That’s why I no fit mention name and price of paints
If you buy a multi-million dollar car and it skid off the road, what happens? You’ll kill the driver or sue the carmaker?
Even with best effort, there are inevitable constants in construction.
That’s the risk we bear in construction.
————-
I’ve shared here that I asked a painter to supply me some paint and he did but I ended up not liking the colour when he finished painting. I had to buy another paint and asked him to keep the one I rejected in my store
I was on a project and I had to buy 3 circular saw machine to cut boards on the project when the one I had broke down. I didn’t go into the project with a mindset that things won’t break.
If it breaks/spills/damage, we fix it and the project continues.
I’ve had to remove a whole roof because of misalignment.
Baba, you know these things na. You have ANSWERED the question perfectly OK. Wetin remin ……abi |

n3xt: Why is it that we hardly see a client ask their contractor/subcontractor/artisans “Is money the problem?”
I know I’ve had to deal with issues where the client tell his contractor “Shebi, you saw it before you gave me estimate?” “I paid you what you asked me!” “That’s my budget.”
Let’s reflect on this.
________
If you buy iron rod at N100k per ton last month and the same cost N200k this month, would you buy it or tell the supplier that’s what you budgeted for the project and you’re not paying more?
If you DIY your project and one of your tool of trade got faulty in the process, will you spend additional cost to repair the faulty equipment/tool or chose not to shift ground until the equipment maybe fixed itself?
Why then do we dramatically hold different standards for owner-managed projects and contractor-managed projects?
_________
Before you say contractors/professionals should know, “How many of us knew the cost of steel will go up by almost 80% in just 6 months?”
How many of us knew the price of 9 inches block will increase to N300 + in less than 8 months?
Let’s stop fighting each other and start dealing with the harsh realities of the Naija economy.
__________
Happy New Month! WORDS Actually all depends on contract agreement at initially stage. I have a client here which both of us agreed on variation on any materials. When we gave quotation then iron rod was 300k now it’s 460k TMT. And both of us continue based on our agreement |
