Ibori may be a criminal (and perhaps not the worst in Nigeria) yet he is somebody's son, husband, father, brother, uncle, cousin etc and such person(s) can thank God for his (Ibori's) life regardless of whether he is in prison or not and that does not necessarily mean that such persons are justifying his deeds but identifying with him even in the days of his troubles and that to me is sincerity on the part of his relatives and friends.

How much is the money when juxtaposed with what will accrue at the end of the day. I am a retiree from a corporate body and dismissal, retrenchment, disclaimer etc. is part of administrative activities which eventually, most of the times impart positively on the company to make it a going concern.

It is not difficult to mandate that all monies/fines/fees due to the government always be paid at a bank - no cash should be accepted - and that all fees due should be displayed at all relevant offices. Information should also be made available to the public as to what amounts are due. An easily accessible avenue to report bribes paid should be created and action should be taken to investigate corrupt officers. This will be a start.

Government should also ensure that government employees get a living wage, not a minimum wage that is spent on transport to work.

There is so much that the government can (afford to) do to curb corruption and improve living standards for the ordinary man on the street but those in government are unfortunately just not interested.
