PoliticsRe: The Nigeria Army: Best In Land Troops Worldwide? by Rubbermaid(f): 2:43pm On Jun 07, 2007
BEST? It's too cute the way we get to be so proud and make stark claims - regardless of facts huh

An old Nigerian adage goes something like this:

"The monkey who hasn't ventured far from his father's tree will always think that his forest is the biggest"
grin

My point is: Even within Africa, close observation may very well reveal that the Nigerian Army is far from being BEST in terms of Land Troops or any other factors - not to talk of WORLDWIDE.
PropertiesRe: Atlanta Nairalanders - Know Of Anyone Looking To Rent A 4 Bedroom House? by Rubbermaid(op): 2:35pm On Jun 07, 2007
Yeah, homes are relatively affordable in places like Atlanta, Houston, Dallas etc. It would have cost me almost 6 x more to buy something like that in California.

Please let me know if you know of someone in the Atlanta area looking to rent. I can also agree to a lease-purchase rent-to-own.

BusinessRe: Package Delivery Problems: USPS And NIPOST by Rubbermaid(f): 2:19pm On Jun 05, 2007
Please save yourself a lot of headache in the future and use DHL - its more expensive but look at it as insurance that you will actually receive your stuff - or at the very least be able to track it and hold someone responsible for loss. I've sent mail via DHL frequently and have yet to face a single problem.

Granted, the USPS is highly controlled and has sophisticated tracking - as far as federal express, certified mail, and receipt tracking are concerned, but notwithstanding that mail tampering in the US is a serious highly punishable federal offense, (even reaching or putting something into someone else's mailbox without their permission is a federal crime), I still can't even begin to tell you some problems I've had with USPS mail in the US - (They lost (stole) my favorite watch, also a fresh wedding Gele my sister sent from New Jersey, several mail etc) also learned of opened and/or damaged packages I sent to various US locations (christmas toys, clothes etc for my nephews, nieces etc) . I was in their office almost every week around Christmas making complaints. shocked

Net is that as recently as last year, I lived on a route that was so bad that mail carriers eventually got arrested. Apparently some other people on my route had complained heavily too leading to investigations and the arrests.

And this is here o in the country that originates the tracking - Not to talk of trying to track them in Naija.

Please save yourself some pain and use a tried and true commercial carrier for international shipping.

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Nearly two years after federal agents reported finding $90,000 in a freezer in his Washington home, You.S. Rep. William Jefferson has been charged with a global campaign to solicit bribes, obstruct justice and engage in racketeering, Justice Department officials said Monday.

TV/MoviesRe: Do You Love Or Hate Nigerian Movies? by Rubbermaid(f): 5:23am On May 30, 2007
Nigerian movies are so sad and best summarized by Basketmouth in Nights of a thousand laughs.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VhEELfIl1ho

I think most (99.999%) are utter rubbish. No thought process put into the production at all. What they feed consumers are flimsy cheap DVDs called movies - no skills applied whatsoever to the process - there is no editing, no sound control, lighting, no storyline or something that totally sucks and they are always so repetitive and predictable.

The good news is that the Music Industry in Nigeria is different. We have talented people producing quality products - 2Face, pSquare, etc Bigups to you all.
Christianity EtcRe: How Do I Know If God Is Speaking To Me? by Rubbermaid(f): 5:10am On May 30, 2007
Not sure - but like IBDAT it depends on you to deduce.

BTW< here's an interesting blog I found on whether God even exists - it says pretty much the same thing - you have to deduce it.

It makes me feel better about myself that left to my own devices, I deduced that there is a God.

Nairaland GeneralRe: What Do You Hate About Our Moderator? by Rubbermaid(f): 7:34am On May 09, 2007
My perception of Seun Osewa is that he is a narcissistic, short-sighted and disrespectful person.

I believe my overall 'perception of him can be best summarized in an excerpt I once read in a book:
it goes "Poor thing! He has no enemies but himself."

In otherwords, I find that he is his own greatest detractor - as far as monetizing Nairaland goes.

Why he may not be the sharpest tool in the box:
1. He obviously does not know his audience, and if (per chance) he has an inkling, he disregards this knowledge of a potential viable market. In otherwords, not all Nairalanders are pubescent teenagers flexing their vocals - some are potential venture capitalists, geniuses in their fields etc. Some come here to shoot the breeze but can equally make things happen. In otherwords, you have the 'forum' to make things happen but the rotten attitude is a mega turn-off.

2. He tries to limit participation by frivolously banning others - this one baffles the heck out of me. When I first stumbled upon this site, I was in Nairaland heaven - reading the open communications of my peeps. That soon waned though and the vibe is now more of a constricted, overly orchaestrated forum - losing its edge, and ofcourse, posts wink

3. He has not turned the insane amount of visitors into REAL money thus far - probably collecting paltry adsense revenue vs the real potential in the eyeballs that 'graze' his site daily.

4. He does not realise that in the ocean of internet communications  he is but a speck. Users are a flighty bunch as it were, and there are just too many other things out there for anyone to spend time catering to an over inflated ego.

5. He will take offense to many of the posts - even though he seems to be craving constructive feedback.

oh well,  (yawns), its getting late

Okay, I probably need to clarify that toll free means the access number is free.

What I do is this:

1. Dial the toll-free number which already has my home and cell numbers registered

2. Make my call directly without dialing an pin numbers.

The call itself is not free - it is dirt cheap but not free. You load your minutes as you want or need them via your online account on www.sonartel.com

Incase you haven't heard of www.Sonartel.com - I heard about it and I'm thrilled!

It's pretty cool stuff ie if you make international calls especially to countries in Africa/India etc. Basically, you'll never need to buy phone cards again!!
I use it now and completely swear by it. Sooooo convenient! Plus, lots of minutes!!

You simply register any phone numbers you want and then just dial the toll free number to make your calls directly. Neat stuff!

Thanks for the numerous posts! Well, all except for the intoxicated JustGood. By the way, I have reported your ignorant ass to the admin.

I should probably clarify some things.

1. For reasons that I am now questioning, I considered the possibility of dating a Nigerian man. It does not necessarily mean that I must "by-force" date a Nigerian or that there is a lack of eligible, suitable, respectful, successful, black men in Los Angeles. Location, corporate and personal life makes it non-conducive to meet eligible Nigerians.

2. Dating (In My Opinion), is best defined as planned meetings and outings to facillitate getting to know more about each- extensively,it is best defined as what is in this link ---> http://dating.suite101.com/article.cfm/DatingDefined. There are so many activities people can do in my environment - movies, dinners, concerts, sports, company events, lounges, jazz clubs, museums, trips,
It is not (In my Opinion) wrapped around Sex, and Marriage. If that is your definition, fine but it varies from mine. shocked

2.1 Yeah - that picture sucks but I don't plan to broadcast my face so that should suffice for Nairaland. Oh well.

3. For those in the "Oh My God!" category - ie culturally shocked by the fact that a Nigerian (woman) would post an ad, please get over yourselves. I'm doing it - big freaking deal! tongue

In case you never got the memo, it is freaking 2007! Roll up your mats and smell the darn coffee. angry

You are so ridiculous! I know the likes of you. Low-life, 419, somebody's boy-boy etc. Maybe one Ekaete go ja u face in your slum but obviously, you are definitely out of your league here. Do yourself a favor. Read this again and then step. No, seriously.

Rubbermaid:
LOL - Why am I not surprised? huh

@noble and the other men that feel compelled to resort to insults - I think the most important question is what are you freaking upset about?!

How, in your paltry little minds can you equate me to a slut? Or draw other conclusions simply because I have stated that I am not currently dating anyone and I am liberated enough to articulate my objectives?

You have no idea what my morals are, nor do you have an inkling of the quality of my life. So why don't you just close your traps and move on if you are not interested or suitable? Either way, you'll be doing us all a favor.

By the way, the insults are reminiscent of local traders that hurl such to girls when they are ignored. SO, you are not even original in your insults.

In summary, please check yourselves - no need for boorish behavior undecided
RomanceRe: Single And Looking To Meet The One. by Rubbermaid(op): 5:52pm On Jan 19, 2007
@promise72 - LOL
You need a full length pic of yourself clearly showing the face. No sunglasses. Little smile OK. No laughing too much.

The idea is that you want the other party to see you for who you are and he can make of his mind. You don't really have to hide anything. The person will eventually see you. There should be no surprises.

Lastly, i don't have a masters, i have a Bachelors and few AA degrees. As far as im concerned that should be enough. After Bachelors, there not much to prove anyway. At least you know that the person is educated enough to carry a conversation with.

with that said, you can drop me a line. I live in Riverside, CA. So you don't have to file ejire paper for me, waste money for phonecard etc.

This sat. we can hang out. See where this leads Grin

You down 4 me?
Yeah, that picture is the only one that doesn't show my face that's why I used it. You on the otherhand, are purple and green! smiley
You do make some good points although we differ on the value of advanced degrees. Anyway, I do sense confidence and wit here - I like that.

BusinessRe: Is Nigeria's Gdp Really Only Comparable To The Island Of Hawaii?! by Rubbermaid(op): 5:13pm On Jan 19, 2007
@Seun

Actually, the importance of the GDP is that it acts as the measurement of the girth of any economy. Plus, because it uses uniform measurements regardless of economy, it is a good comparative tool for the size of a nation's economy.

There is a very good reason each country spends tremendous labor and other resources computing these numbers yearly. In otherwords, GDP matters. Immensely! It tells you how large your economy is taking into account goods, services, government spendings etc.

In lay terms, it is analogous to my economic worth Mine vs yours vs Joe Blows.

Come on guys, we shouldn't stoop so low. The problem exists on both sides. Let the post(s) begin grin
Additionally, in a current post on whether or not to do business with Nigerians, everyone pounds their chest on how we must trust each other as Nigerians - yet, to marry a Nigerian woman in Nigeria (arguably the epitome of a Nigerian woman), you are quick to hurl insults!!

Net, from numerous posts on this forum, I can only assume that Nigerian women are acceptably regarded lower than business, money and everything else we care about as Nigerians.

You said it not me. Check yourselves! undecided
