Car TalkRe: How Reliable Are BMW Cars? by ruescho(m): 6:55pm On Dec 06, 2006
BlackMamba:
If reliability is visiting the garage on and off, replacing damaged parts, then a BMW is as reliable as any thing on four wheels in Naija. It's a given. The cost is a different matter. It will cost you a lot more to keep your high performance "Beemer" on the road, than say, a Honda or Toyota.
This is why everybody wants to drive a BMW:
It´ just for prestige, not for reliability.

But nevertheless it´s so niiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiice!
AutosRe: Audi A4, Am I Making The Right Choice by ruescho(m): 11:09am On Dec 06, 2006
Dont know the condition of this car, check it well, but usually u dont make a mistake buying a Audi.

The A 4 is nice but smaller than comparable cars. What engine does it have?

The turbo diesel engines have a great momentum or try to get a 6- cylinder.

The small 2 litre engine is a bit weak but helps u safe fuel.

Good luck!

I´ve been driving a 525 touring , but in Germany. Wouldn´t recommend such a car for bad roads.
Then u better take a x5 or x3, if u can afford it.
But only if u are a short man. These cars are too small inside for tall people.
They offer best driving fun (only the new A6 can offer u more), are reliable, but sometimes there are too much
problems with the chips and electronic parts.
One time I got stuck inside, cos the board-electronic system was not working, neither did the power windows
and the door opener.
So I had to call help with my mobile :-)

Nairaland GeneralRe: Why Do Nigerians Adore Money So Much? by ruescho(op): 11:57am On Dec 02, 2006
English1:
I think most people like money?

I don't know if all Nigerians really adore money but they sure do adore talking about it!

In the UK it is a taboo subject really, you don't discuss money, it's all a bit embarrassing and offensive. So quite a few Nigerians have offended me in the past, without meaning to of course.
Yeah I think thats the difference.

I live in Germany. Everybody likes money here too but nobody is talking about it.

Nobody is boasting of how much they are earning and they prefer to drive small cars even though they could afford a big one.

If u make a present u remove the price tag.

So if I give a nice ring to my naija girlfriend on xmas, should I tell her how much it cost me huh
RomanceRe: Dating Foreigners by ruescho(m): 9:50am On Nov 30, 2006
katherinae:
u will never understand how important culture is until u and your girlfriend or wife undecided disagree on how to raise your children, where to retire, your work ethic, voting, where to spend christmas, where to worship, who to send money to in nigeria, or when some moronic white cops decide to shoot an unarmed black man (who to side). o there is also how to save money for the future, and manage money, what to do with your kids when they are 18 years of age, and last but not least if nad when they should start dating.

the way i see it, it is already hard dating a nigerian man, then i the heck should i marry a foreinger and have to deal with these issues that if i made a smart decision in the begining wouldnt even be an issue
This part of your statement is so rite! We better discuss it on this level and don´t fall back into racism and clichees like some people in this thread tend to do.

Christianity EtcRe: Did God Send 2 Different But True Religions? Judaism And Christianity? by ruescho(m): 10:55pm On Nov 29, 2006
I think yes: he send judaism to the people of Israel and christianity to the rest of the world the so called heathens.
So thanks god if I believe in Jesus Christ I don´t have to become a Jew to be saved.

TravelRe: Hotel In Abuja by ruescho(op): 6:41pm On Nov 29, 2006
This is what I found in the bnet, seems to be a rather common problem:

Protea, the South African hotel chain, ran this place for over a year. The hotel's name is now the Bolingo, its old name before Protea management came and left. As for the South Africans, same old same old in Nigeria. Their joint partner was holding back payments and giving Protea a difficult time, wanted more money. So Protea cut and ran to better management opportunities. A major hinderance to foreign investment in Nigeria is that a large percentage of any hotel or venture has to be in Nigerian hands. That means you can easily get cheated or have to wait to get paid, like most who deal in Nigeria.

The hotel is on the main road in from the airport, really close to the business and government area. The new US Embassy, yet to be completed, is basically across the busy highway. Not a bad location, and nice building, but the property has fallen into typically poor management.

The grounds are secure, the lobby is nice with a so-so restaurant. The service and rooms under Protea's management were fair, now under new Nigerian management the hotel is on the decline. Not sure what it is with Nigeria, hotels are overpriced, service is usally poor, nothing stays clean for long, every wall and window seems to have fingerprints or filth on it. The government owned hotels, Bolingo is not, are some of the worst in the world. I've been to some rat holes, but hotels like the Lake Chad in Maiduguri and the Central Hotel in Kano could not be more dirty or unwelcoming. Even the airport Shearton in Lagos is a study in filth, though the restaurant is ok, and service tends to be better in Lagos.

So the Bolingo, no longer Protea, is still newer, the elevators still work, towels still resemble towel not dish rags. It is an ok choice, but for the money go to the Rockview, near the Hilton, the Mediterrean near ECOWAS. Or just pay more and stay at Hilton or Sheraton.

Remember that old Beatles song:

"I don´t care to watch the money
money can´t buy me love."

OK that was then, times seem to be changing.

Thx a lot I already checked the webpages.
Wonder if they charges Nigerians living abroad the residential or the non-residential rate?

Think u only can go there if u are Moslem.
For Christians its no go and if they catch you you have to convert.
Nairaland GeneralWhy Do Nigerians Adore Money So Much? by ruescho(op): 9:37pm On Nov 28, 2006
Sorry but my impression is:
before it comes to love it comes to money.
Everybody is talking about money, how to make it how to eat it.
Poor people admire the rich people in their Bollywood homes.
Young girls life on sugadaddys.
To some money is more important than God,
buying and having good things more important than to live a goodly live.

Why is that so
and wouldn´t things in Nairaland run much better
if people paid taxes instead of bribing
and care for each other iunstead of being sometimes so selfish?

Sad but true, what do you think?

No that´s the prob: he did not divorce the first one but went to Nigeria and made traditional marriage to second one.
Now he has two wives shocked
Might be OK there, but here it´s unusual, aint it?
FamilySecond Wife by ruescho(op): 10:31pm On Nov 27, 2006
Met a friend today who introduced his new wife to me.
Wondered how he got his divorce so quickly, but he just grined and told me:
"This is my second wife!"

We had a discussion and he said "I can have as many wives as I like as long as I can satisfy them" (financially and sexually).
He says it´s better than cheating and anyway Moslems are allowed to have up to for wives.

Hey this is Europe and he is Christian, how can that behuhhuhhuhhuhhuh??

What do you think?
I am so confused huh
