HealthRe: Everyone Knew I Had HIV… Except Me by ruffhandu: 6:08pm On Feb 23
RetroviralS:
Growing up, I thought I was just a sickly child. I was always in and out of the hospital, always taking medication daily. Whenever I asked why, I was told, “It’s to keep you strong.” I believed them.

At 13, during a routine clinic visit, I overheard two nurses whispering. One said, “That’s the girl born with it.” Born with what?

That sentence wouldn’t leave my mind. That night, I searched through my mother’s drawer and found my hospital file. I saw it clearly written: HIV Positive.

I froze.

Not because I thought I would die immediately, but because everyone seemed to know something about my life that I didn’t. I confronted my mother. She cried. She said she didn’t know how to tell me. She said she was trying to protect me.

Maybe she meant well.

But silence didn’t feel like protection. It felt like loneliness. For years, I swallowed my medication quietly. I avoided deep friendships. I kept people at a distance. I was more afraid of stigma than the virus itself.

Everything changed when I met other young people like me at a support group for students, entrepreneurs, dreamers living boldly. That was when I understood something important:

HIV may be in my blood, but it does not define my future. Today, I take my medication confidently. I live fully. I speak without shame.

Being born with HIV is not a death sentence. But stigma can be.

Nairaland family, if you were in my mother’s shoes, would you have chosen silence or honest conversation? Maybe it’s time we start changing how we talk about children born with HIV.
You better to spread it. It means your parents are living with the virus also. My own is, whoever has HIV MUST NOT HAVE SEX with people who do not have the virus. And whenever any opposite sex comes near, make sure you announce your status. I hate when people say "I was carried away by love". That is pure wickedness.
TravelRe: A Short Message For People Who Japa And Choose To Activate Ghost Mode by ruffhandu: 5:59pm On Feb 23
OverCalculating:
Hello Niralanders, as you chase your dreams abroad, don't forget the people and place that made you. Home is where the heart is, and it's the friends and family that make it truly special. Don't let comfort and distance make you forget where you came from. One day, you'll be old and ready to come back home, but if you've lost touch with loved ones, you'll be left with empty memories. Hold on to home, and the people who truly care about you 🌍.
Many things here.
1. When communicating with them, try as much as possible not to bring money matters to even remotely suggest you need their help.
2. It can be really chellenging for the abroad people, a man facing immigration issues will cut communications with almost everyone, except perhaps close family members.
3. Many cut off because they don't want to hear "what kind of job are you doing over there?". Imagine a banker now working as a dishwasher, he know your reaction will be that of mockery, so he may entirely not give you the opportunity to ask that question.
4. If a man abroad plans himself very well, once he returns, even those he blanked will swarm around him like bees on honey, trying to scam, rip off, benefit, etc. You assertion that they will suffer is a big lie.

CelebritiesRe: Throwback Photo Of Fela Anikulapo-Kuti And His Brothers by ruffhandu: 11:00pm On Feb 17
Olofofo247ng:
A very rare photo of the Kuti brothers from Nigeria. Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, Dr. Beko Ransome-Kuti and Professor Olikoye Ransome-Kuti all from the same parents and a bl00dline of activism.

The trio is known to have made marks that have enriched Nigeria's history in different ways.

Fela, the Afrobeat creator, was a bone in the necks of various governments and administrations, especially the military juntas. With his songs, he drove his criticisms down the spine of the various heads of state in Nigeria. For his activism, he was arrested multiple times and sent to jail many times too, mostly on trumped-up charges.

Dr. Beko, a medical doctor, was another very popular activist of his time. He gave the military governments a run for their money joining the likes of Gani Fawehinmi, Prof. Wole Soyinka and such other globally revered crusaders.

Prof. Olikoye, another medical expert, however, was not an activist in the real sense of the word. He put his energy into serving the country as Minister of Health in the same government that his two brothers cr!ticised so strongly. It is to Olikoye's credit that Nigeria initiated the Primary Healthcare system to bring healthcare closer to the grassroots.

What is your family doing to make Nigeria great?
Fela was a great man, It is unfortunate he died of HIV. But, something must kill a man.
Jobs/VacanciesRe: A Lady Sparks Outrage Online Over Jobs & Earnings In Nigeria. What Is Your Take? by ruffhandu: 8:34am On Feb 16
Imattertoo:
What do you think? Is she right or wrong?
This is usually an economic environmental problem,. The lady has reasoned it in her small mind and concluded it is not possible. If her father started off as an international staff in an oil company, she would be thinking the opposite.

In the 90s, when I already knew what's up with salaries and lived in PH and my father was a blue colar worker who wasn't poor. I argued with my village rich man's son, who was my friend at the time, that nobody could earn up to 100k as salary. I laughed at his ignorance.

This statement is purely from the place of ignorance, lack of exposure, economic dwarfism, and environmental influence.

Christianity EtcRe: Does God Have A Special Person For You To Marry? by ruffhandu: 10:45am On Feb 01
judewrites:
📖 Genesis 3
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
¹¹ And he said, Who told thee that thou wast naked? Hast thou eaten of the tree, whereof I commanded thee that thou shouldest not eat?

¹² And the man said, The woman whom thou gavest to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I did eat.

When queried by God for eating the forbidden fruit, Adam replied to God saying,

"It was the woman you gave me who gave me the fruit to eat" (paraphrased)

In other words, 'its the wife you choose for me that put me in all this mess.'

Humorously, it's said that since Adam complained about the wife God gave Him, from that day on, God decided that man would choose for himself whom he would marry.

Realistically, Adam couldn't refuse Eve because she was created specifically for him.

Unlike Adam's situation, God doesn't have a special person for one to marry, but will rather guide to a person suitable for one.

📖 Whoso findeth a (true) wife findeth a good thing, and obtaineth favour of the LORD.
— Proverbs 18:22

The Bible didn't say whoso finds 'the' wife, but 'a' wife.

This means God has His options for you to marry, but It takes God's favour to find a good woman or man suitable for you for marriage.

For example out of ten women/men you are considering for marriage, God can guide you to one or two He feels will be best for you.

That's why repeated fornication often confuses sound judgement on the right person to marry because it defuses God's favour.

In fact, so many have missed God's best for them because they couldn't control their sexual appetites.

However, no two people are exactly the same; even identical twins differ in some areas.

This is why we should never compare our spouses with others or dissatisfaction will slowly creep in.

Celebrate 🎉 your spouse's uniqueness because you chose to marry him/her out of billions of people.
The bolded should be replaced with "He knows"

I actually don't believe in this gospel many preachers bandy around saying because Adam said that thus God doesn't choose for people anymore. Lies. It depends on your connection with God and what you truly desire. I have heard many Christians who said God told them who to marry, and it is not like they were in any relationship with the lady.

Not my story but happened to someone I know.
Guy is a very handsome and a natural flirt, his wife made sure she pushed other girlfriends away and ensured they got married. But as a regular ladies man she couldn't stop him from being who he is. 5 years later, she intentionally hacked into his phone and got proof of him cheating, sent screenshot proofs to friends and famly as prood. Then left him, my man begged and tried to make it up to her, but she refused. Before you know it, she has japa'd and is living a new life with the kids. Man is single in Naija, wondering if he should still get married as he edges close to 50. Yeah he messed up but, if he knew he should have just been a single man and continued his flirty life.
Beauty fades bro. Na body go tell am. Even if you are cheating while young, once you get married, stop, there is a reason it is referred to as "settling down".

The best life is a life in Christ. If both are born-again, believe me, some frictions will be eliminated. His married was not.a waste, he has children from one.woman in marriage.

Cheating is not good, there are consequences- emotionally, medically, spiritually, socially.

I have a friend that married in 2019 and got separated in 2024.
Just five years of marriage.
When I asked him what really happened.
He said she is tired of his wife's constant nagging.
Always accusing him of cheating without evidence.
He had to divorce her.
I hope he did so because he was able to hide the evidences. If he was actually cheating, life will happen to him eventually for treating that woman in such manner.

nairalanda1:
Well, the young man who died was a passenger in a car that was being tailed by the police. The police tried to pull him over, and he sped off, and as a result of his speeding crashed into a stationary lorry. The driver was not hurt too badly, but another passenger was hurt badly and the young man of course died.

Said young man several months earlier was jailed in Dubai. He was on holiday, when he had sex with another girl his age, also from the UK. When the girl and her mother got back to the UK, mother found out, and reported to the Dubai authorities. Under the Sharia law they practive in the UAE, it was a crime, so the boy was jailed. UK government begged on his behalf, and the ruler of the UAE pardoned him.

Three months after release, this happened.
