The height of the roof I can't say accurately but they joined 2 length of 2by6 planks for each of the "kinpost".

Note that i am not a builder. I opened the thread mainly because it's a personal project and maybe some people might find it useful.

For the roof, I bought;
500 pieces of 2by4 (hardwood)
400 pieces of 2by3 (hardwood)
24 pieces of 2by6 (hardwood)
nails

The wood, nails and transport cost about 700,000 Naira.

The carpenter collected 90,000 Naira.


I bought 380sqm gerard shingles at the rate of 3,250 per sqm.

Ridges and gutter, 145,000 Naira.

Transport of gerard to the site 35,000 Naira.

Covering of the house 70,000 Naira.

These are the major ones.

I needed to withdraw 35k this morning in order to attend to some urgent cash needs and since I didn't want only N1000 notes I decided to enter the banking hall. Truth be told times could be much better Covid and Buhari did not help matters but as a Christian I know not to keep what is not mine. God knows it could have solved a lot of problems but its best to wait for what is mine so i had to go back to the bank and wait to see the Teller. Looking at her interact with her colleagues one could tell she was not happy.
When it was my turn she asked what kind of transaction I wanted and I just handed her the N32k. The relief and joy on her face could not be hidden. She had already told her colleague beside her that she was short so they both joined in telling me thank you.

As usual some may say I was foolish for returning the money but either a young lady could have lost her job in these terrible times or at least the money would be removed from her salary which is still bad enough.
My only prayer is God should consider this and remember me for good.

Its difficult, if he used 6" blocks, you will have only 6"x6" columns, the only option now is to reduce the load on the house, use 6" hollow blocks for the walls and also explore the use of thinner slabs that can reduce the load on the foundation columns.

A storey building of 2 flats up and two flats down.

My builder used 6 inches solid blocks for my foundation .

I recently discovered that he shouldn't have done that. But its too late now cos the foundation has been filled with filling sand already.

I want to know if there's any remedy we can take going forward to preserve the integrity and strength of the building.
