Welbeck hardly shoots. So how do you mean he misses so much. How does someone who hardly shoots misses so much? Welbeck has the same conversion rate as Chicharito even though Chicha plays closer to the goalkeeper than Welbeck- Chicha was a striker throughout.

Last season:

Welbeck total shot= 46, goals 9
Chicharito total shots 21, goals 4
Rooney total shots = 101, goals 17
RVP total shots= 62, goals 12.

It's a combination of all, but power and pace has to be very much pronounced or dominant. I don't see Ribery and Robben as very intelligent players. They had so much pace, then power and work rate than anything else.

I've seen just 2 games of his as a LB and zero as CB and the only worrying thing about him seems to be his apparent lack of defensive awareness (apparent, because as I said earlier, I haven't seen enough to conclude)
