johnny evans came to help in the last 5 mins - all valencia needed to do was to pass the ball back to evans & run hard into the penalty box for a return in a 1-2 pass - his intelligence didn't go that far.

each time he passed back to evans, he stood there with him like a zombie. young had a penalty in the first half(not given). his shot hit someone's arm in the box late in the second half(not given). tough luck - young was one of our better players today.

I am not amongst those who believe we should just sign anyone who has quality for whatever price out of desperation, with out keep in mind our tactics, budget and balance of the squad. You don't spend a fortune of a player and then start permutating how to shoehorn him into the system, you spend a fortune a player whom you are either going to build the system around or whom you have confidence will fit or adjust to the existing setup.

Woodward will wreck this club, unless the Glazers wise up and hire a director football or some such, to take over some of the footballing decisions that are clearly over his head .

afrodoc: How can anyone can say sacking david moyes and appointing louis van gaal as manager was a mistake?

Moyes should never have been appointed in the first place.I can't think of anything positive in the Moyes era apart from maybe giving adnan his debut.
He had no pedigree,had never won anything of note, he signed the wrong players, he made wrong confidence-depleting statements, he lacked confidence, he seemed unsure of himself, he was defeatist in almost everything he said and did, he lacked any tactical ingenuity .
In short he was the antithesis of van gaal.

El Mercurio are saying that United's offer of £32m + Hernández wasn't 'satisfying' enough for Juventus. It also says that Vidal has a verbal agreement with United, but LvG has slowed the transfer down because of his knee.

Most importantly it says that this weekend is crucial if it the transfer is to happen, as LvG will inspect Vidal's fitness when Juventus play Verona on saturday.

As for bringing unestablashed players, you can use that approach to a solid team and get away. Not to a team that finished 7th on the table.
