What you nominal GDP and what is your population.I doubt you have made out of LDC.World bank does the ranking .South Africa have not attained upper middle income..GDP per capita for that is nearly 8000usd..South Africa stuck in 5-6k.Strictly speaking that is middle income..from 8k- 12k we start upper middle income.

You haven't made it yet... maybe next year...our GDP per capita is 2000 plus..if figure from our census is true..we are about 46m..not 50m..so expect our GDP per capita to about 2200..by 2023 we will be 3000 and by 2027 or earlier we will be a middle income country like South Africa.You can move your jiko business to Kenya then and avoid the xenophobia.

Just to clarify.this mostly rural farming..we deal with Kenya Western & Nyanza..which is uniformly mostly poor..most of the loans are paid by their in country diaspora..I am talking people moving from kakamega to Kibera slums and slowly rising up.The land size in Western Kenya are as bad as Rwanda..less than acre.That the disclaimer.Rwanda magic is still pretty much restricted to Kigali...if they keep it up ..they will get economies of scale/location/consolidation to pull the test of the country out.Its a small country.Its doable as long as hutu and Tutsi don't fight.Zambia I have heard from my truck business buddies that road are bad, infrastructure non existent and even basic stuff like motorcycle don't exist.

I am a bit ambivalent about Rwanda and Kagames.I first went to Rwanda about 10yrs ago to train the national Statistics body on how to collect data using us census mobile app.I built and tested some national household surveys form and saw their data crunching.I stayed for a week and I was impressed by what few English speaking tusti elite mostly raised outside Rwanda were trying to do while I was also disturbed by police state that was worst that mois 80s and had terrified the majority of hutu to extreme silence and guilt.I only saw hutus as boda boda while in every nice place bi would see tall majestic Tutsi running the show and making no apologies about it .Tutsi refugees of 50s definitely have huge axe that predate 1994 genocide.I have seen gone to Rwanda including rural areas.We deal with both rural Burundi and Rwanda in our company..we lent them loan...there is no difference in income profile btw the two countries.So it true Rwanda edge is really restricted to Kigali.we deal mostly with poor in countries including Nigeria..I can say Zambia are richer and are more wealthier coz of large land sizes. Kenyans follow.. Tanzania..then Uganda..then Rwanda & Burundi no difference..we failed in Ghana and failing in Nigeria.West African simply don't repay any loan or take anything seriously.In most countries our repayment rate is 98%..in Nigeria we don't even get to 20%.i must say despite the poverty in rural Rwanda..you see people in really tattered clothes..they have beautiful brick tiled house..I hope they don't get into the iron sheet bandwagon and keep their clay tiled roof rural house..and Rwanda hills are very beautiful.The road infrastructure is great even outside Kigali and that must be a feat considering the hilly terrain.Rwandese are going to get there because of the discipline and get it done attitude by kagame.Their tea now retail at 6 dollars a kilo in Mombasa while ours is down to 2 dollars.Lots of companies are moving to Kigali and I will also move there mid next year because our Kenya gov is refusing investors and professional work permits.But again the income of rural Burundi and rural Rwanda are the same...I guess you can generally blame worthless farming of sweet potatoes, cassava and maize that 50m African farmers engage in very very small plots...the only way out is to get farmers or rural residences into high value farming.. dairy, horticulture, nuts, fruits... otherwise without large land size..places that are congested like Rwanda will only succeed by moving everyone to Kigali.But kagame has barricaded Kigali from poor people..so slums don't grow.

South Africa has 45,000mw or 30,000mw..and about 100 big minning & manufacturing consume 80% of that.In Kenya 600 companies consume 60% of power.7m other consume the remainder.If you're not into minning and heavy manufacturing you don't need lots of power.Nigeria power crisis is therefore easy to solve..
