Austine1212:Not far behind Joburg...I think if count skyscrapers under construction in both cities .. Nairobi will soon have edge.Nairobi has to fix housing deficit of around 0.5m, fix infrastructure deficit and it be at Joburg level. Most multinational are now choosing Nairobi over Joburg as their Africa HQ |
Abohboy:Rwanda is a country of about 10m..how many cities should it have..maybe 2 or 3..with most folks eventually staying in kigali |
samorobo:Bata has had one shoe factory and run shoe franchise... all over the country selling shoes mostly for school kids.Admittedly our leather industry has not developed like say Ethiopia. We are fixing that now with leather city near Nairobi |
vaxx:Why are those multinational still controlling manufacturing in West Africa...in Kenya home brand long kicked most of them.Uniliver industries long lost to Bidco.Look like only Dangote has succeeded in Nigeria against Lafrage and the likes |
samorobo:Again until it happens control your desperation |
GODMALE:Delusion from the world poverty capital |
samorobo:Everyone signed those deals with Russia but until we see it off ground go slow.We signed deals with Japan recently and now they are happening.Same with China |
GODMALE:Transnational is a small bank in Kenya.Nigeria bank expansion is without any concrete strategy. In Kenya they bought struggling banks that will be draining them forever.Kenya banks have expanded to 10 countries so far and their subsidiaries are making money.Recently Equity bank acquired DRC 2nd largest bank.. it generating serious profit...next will be Ethiopia,Congo, Cameron and soon even Nigeria... otherwise Kenyan banks are in 5 East Africa states some as far down as Mozambique. |
GODMALE:What do you call Mombasa..a city bigger than Abuja..a village |
obidark:Your defence budget is 1.6b dollars Kenya is inching towards 1.5b dollars.Youre just a poor giant. In few yrs our defence budget will probably double yours. You don't want powerful enemies like progressively advancing kenya.Even Chad will soon overtake you |
obidark:Future enemy of the world poverty capital. What a peril we are wishing ourselves.Like we don't have envious southern neighbor.Nigeria until it turns the corner and join progressive nation's like Ghana,Rwanda, Botswana, Mauritus and even Ethiopia is best ignored in my view. This thread should not make you bitter at Kenya that without any minerals is pulling itself by it's bootstrap, it should make you bitter at you political leadership.Until Nigerians revolt and say enough is enough they will continue underperforming. There is no magic.Kenya in 90s was like Nigeria...many were running abroad and vowing never to step back...but thro what we call NARC Revolution we kicked our national party KANU and all the retrogressive forces..started a fresh with new Constitution in 2010..and now everyone can see progress with their naked eyes.Nigeria ended military rule and immediately tapped the same tired military forces to run its civilian governments.Unlike Kenya a barren nation... Nigeria has incredible natural resources, incredible human resource of 200m and just need visionary leadership.Nigeria has to start a journey of real reforms. Its has to stop the miasma of delusion that they are Giants of Africa while infact in whatever ranking they cluster around Niger,Chad,CAR,South Sudan,Eritrea,Somalia, Burundi and DRC Congo.Look at Ethiopia turning the leaf...and borrow that leaf. Before Mele Zenawi Ethiopia use to permanently rank bottom in any indices..now it at least 20 position above..Start by kicking out Boko Haram. It shameful to have 8m internally displaced Nigerians.Provide the army whatever they need to kick out Boko Haram. If you have to triple their budget do it...then fix long standing Igbo grievances by issuing a public apology to Igbos over the massacre of millions of them during Biafra war. That will heal a lot of wounds.Igbos don't need much in my view..they just need an inquiry into Biafra atrocities and public apology..and they will feel proudly Nigerian again. Then deal with Sharia law in a secular country. After the country has healed you can start to develop.South Africa healed thro things like Truth n Reconciliation.Kenya did the same through Truth n Reconciliation.Rwanda have manage to start healing unimaginable pain. Progressive nation's have such national conversation where people can cry and be told sorry we hurt you...just like families do . People can then have closure and turn a new leaf. Otherwise what progress can you talk about when Igbos want to secede, Muslim north want Sharia and the north east are under a grip of Boko Haram. |
obidark:myopic..are you just throwing words around..the man from the zoo who thinks everyone from the zoo..Kenya spent 270m dollars or more than 100b naira to equip all public primary schools with 1.2m tablets, a laptop, projector and printer per school...there is a digital curriculum and all the works...so connecting them next to broadband is easy breezy..just extending the college and universities fiber to schools around it |
obidark:Not everyone is dysfunctional like Nigeria. We connected nearly all schools to electricity..both off and main grid..supplied them with laptops, tablets, projectors, printers and some form of broadband..now we are going to move them to fiber.Check Digischool coverage.. nearly 20,000 public primary School covered .It's very likely you'll find a school with electricity and laptops without good desk or even a roof in Kenya http://www.opendata.go.ke/pages/digischool As of 2016 we had 90% coverage and surely by now it's approaching 100% coverage. |
obidark:All colleges and universities in Kenya have had fiber some sinces 90s and now is when focus is on primary and high school.Btw 2014-2016 we connected all public school to electricity. It very easy to connect them to fiber if we just lay the fiber on electricity lines.Read more about the School Connectivity Initiative here https://schools.kenet.or.ke/ |
More wet dreams from Sammy...when contractor move to the site comeback |
Lagos nominal GDP of 136B is as ridiculous as Nigeria GDP.Joburg GDP is around 77B.New Delhi 99B. |
Abohboy:Lagos has no oil..it's in the eastern region..just like Kinshasa has no minerals..most of it in the eastern region.Lagos and Kinshasa are siblings...20m allegedly slumpolis. What Lagos has more..Kinshasa balance it out by being a capital city of DrC Congo.Your nation GDP is cooked.Ebola is in eastern congo.Cairo definitely bigger |
Abohboy:Mombasa port perform better than Lagos port complex of Apapa-tincab in all metrics include cargo throughput.Mombasa has more branded hotels than entire Nigeria.Mombasa GDP is about 10b dollars in my estimation.Once I get a computer I can show you comparable cities to Lagos...don't try developed world...London is the financial capital of the world...you can try India for example...cities that richer than Lagos like New Delhi..what is their GDP...If pictures of Lagos don't support that gdp claim know someone's cooked it.So check Asian & latin huge metropolis like New Delhi, Mumbai, Mexico city, Manila, Dhaka, Jakarta..look at their pictures and look at your slumpolis..and tell me they have the same gdp.Compare Lagos with Kinshasa...and coz DRC are not into lying business..you'll get the correct picture. |
Abohboy:Tokaram Group are enjoying you.. building a deep sea port is serious business.. Chinese are not in business of throwing money away.I doubt there are public policy wonks as brilliant as Chinese..Chinese is a meritocracy..they never shiet before they do serious maths. The average Chinese leader has iQ of 120-140, most have PhD and Chinese invest everything in education. They smell BS from Lagos all the way from Beijing but they are courteous to a fault..many mistake that for foolishness. If maths was good they won't give the money to some shitty Indian company..they will come do it and run it for 30yrs .Dont start us on you fake GDP that is manufactured in CBS offices in Abuja by Yemi Kale.Check GDP of big global cities and see just how l wild the claim that Lagos slumpolis is worth 136B dollars GDP annually is.I can help you with that...big metropolis that are so developed don't make those ridiculous claims. |
Abohboy:I though it will be completed in two months time.Financing has not be concluded.Go slow until you get money in Lagos and construction begins in 2030 possibly.Quick search on Tokaram Group and it's a joke that cannot secure 1b dollars needed....so be careful with that Indian company.. he doesn't leave minus your shirts |
theenchanter:Lame.Typical of a Nigerian when confronted with facts |
Kazikazi:Yes food is not everything for everyone.Within Turkana there exist demand for internet even by the NGOs fixing food issues |
Abohboy:comeback when you do it.Otherwise Nigeria is known for big wet dreams.Kenya has anything upto 30,000kms of fiber network...and FTTH (fiber to the homes) is now approaching 0.5m.South Africa leads with 2m FTTH.Nearly every part of Nairobi and Mombasa has FTTH. |
Abohboy:Fiber was laid in Kenya 10yrs ago...only Lagos tech scene driven by Nigerian diaspora returnees is active like Nairobi, Joburg, cape Town and Cairo. But we are talking the future...where Nigeria won't feature..it most likely Rwanda and Kenya in SubSahara Africa. As you lay fiber to Yaba Kenya is laying fiber to every school soon...and how do we do it..we lay fiber along power lines. What you're doing now we did it years ago.. unlimited fast internet is available nearly everywhere in most urban areas of Kenya..you can get fiber terminated to you even in a Turkana. That is why Kenya speeds are better than most developed world.. Australia parliament got into big argument when research showed Kenya had better internet than them.As for Nigerians still using opera mini to stream internet...you're 10yrs late.I don't see anyone digging around installing fiber anymore. |
Abohboy:Yes those tech companies once up and running will be greater benefits..gov is not out to make profit..the plots will be developed by investors and investment will employ Kenyans and pay taxes eventually. We are looking to attract both established companies but more importantly build start ups ecosystem. If you want to know...we already provide ICT training in all public schools..we spent 170m dollars to provide 1m tablets and laptops to all public schools class 1.we had to electricity school... already in Africa we are competing with South Africa and Nigeria for the tech pie...but we will together with Rwanda eventually emerge the winners. Our education system which was already one Africa best is undergoing massive reform..we are changing yet again from Canada like system to a CBC..competency based model that de-emphasize exams but build inquisitive practical skills based workers of the future.Nobody need automons in the future.Learn more about Kenya digischool project..I think only Rwanda is that ambitious..and also our CBC which is now on grade 3 |
DTB joins KCB, Equity and COOP in Top 1000 bankers.I bet CBA after merge with NIC will become the 5th Kenyan Bank in global 1000 next year.In Africa top 100..10 Kenyans bank made it compared to 14 Nigerians and Egyptian and 8 South African banks .Tanzanian need not apply.https://www.theeastafrican.co.ke/business/East-african-banks-rank-among-world-top-performers/2560-5318836-ee1tb5/index.html |
kikuyu1:Yes lamu only downside is Somalia. We need the jubaland initiative soon coz Mogadishu don't intend to play Ball |
kikuyu1:Apparently they had 15yrs and now 8 yrs like Kenya but Nigeria nearly everything get smuggled thro Benin or Cameron. If they weren't they would earn lots of taxes from import duties...Kenya get about a billion dollars from car imports.Btw Kenya has banned 2nd hand medium trucks..only the primer movers are allowed. So expect lots of jobs in assembling of trucks |
TayserMahri:Nailed kazikazi to the Cross.KaziKazi concentrate on hunger and slums...easy wins. |
Yes the hatred prevent learning from each others. It would be nice if everyone tried some little decorum and objectivity |
mtisTheQubit:Ghana is better managed Nigeria...they still depend a lot on minning..now their oil and gold industry is kicking arse...it still largely primitive society with some worse cross dressing you'll see...with Kings and queens. When I saw Uganda Gomez dress I thought I had seen the most ugly outfit but Ghana take it to another level.Very embrassing maternity dress you'll see.The worse cross dressing you'll see anywhere but they gave us Kwame Nkrumah, Kofi Annan and Rawlings so cut them some slack |
