Nice photos, but Lion Effort was 3 years ago. NO Proof all your Gripen pilots were standard qualified then in 2012, and worse today NO SINGLE Gripen pilot in South Africa is qualified with 250 flying hours per pilot per year as at today 2015.

SAAF jets have flown ZERO combat mission since you purchased them 7 years ago. NO proof your air force can win a real life war.

NAF flew 6,000 combat missions in 6 months .

SAAF should be ranked number 20 in Africa
.
I agree. We're number 20. You're correct.

First photo...ground crew NOT pilots.

Other photos give NO proof they are Gripen pilots, NO proof they flew in Lion Effort exercise 2012, NO proof they are combat qualified today 2015 with 250 flying hours each.

These are just normal Southie photo club military men posing as if they can do what they cannot do, ask a real SAAF pilot to shoot down a Pigeon now and he will miss target, bunch of military failures gringrin
.
Um yes...its quite obvious that those are ground crew. Even the second last pic is ground crew. Did i say all pics are pilots? SA Army camo = ground/supporting/technical staff. Olive green flight suite = pilot. Why are you jumping the gun?

The two Gripen pilots standing side to side is an official pic from SAAB website regarding Lion Effort and SAAF Gripen pilots. So email SAAB and tell them that they are wrong. Pilot climbing into the Gripen is 2 Squadron Commander, and thats a pic taken from Lion Effort.

OLODO!!!

3 shells landed 15 meters from Anthony Day's boat. It doesn't mean only 3 shots were fired.

The ineptitude of the South-African Navy.

http://m.ewn.co.za/2015/03/27/SANDF-warship-accidentally-shoots-at-a-fishing-boat

Any other Navy would send that fishing trawler to the sea bed.
Lol!! Go to sleep.

Quote us a number of shots. U a very good at pulling numbers from thin air (e.g 9 Gripen pilots).

3 shots fired. Why doesnt Anthony Day say he hear more? This happened during the dead of night. Him and his crew would have heard multiple rounds being fired for miles and miles away.

Now you want to shove words down his mouth the same way Augustine shoves his member down yours. Lol.

Yes ! SANDF + SAAF + SAN will miss target as usual ! Incompetent by nature !

Poor marksmanship, remember I said before that SANDF's true capabilities will be exposed in a challenging war environment.

Angola will wreck y.ou, Tanzania will ruin y.ou !

SAN just got it's ACID TEST OF TRUE COMBAT SKILL and Soweto navy FAILED !

You asking me to come and be a test target? Your navy just got live target, huge target, a whole fishing vessel in front of your two koro-Kori eyes and Soweto navy gunners fired severally and missed severally.....in real war against a Navy like Nigeria your sailors won't live to tell the story because we will sink your ship to the bottom of the ocean and sharks will eat sweet dinner that day o !

.
Thumbs up to you. Go to youbute...watch American/Russian/British Navies fire at target. See how many rounds land in the water.

Funny how you never answered the question....what does Nigeria fire at during training? Live humans? People fire back at you during your training? Interesting.

Do you know that 75% of the crew aboard the Navy frigate were new recruits on that vessel? Did you know that? No you didnt.

In war we will fire 3 rounds and stop? Interesting.

2 Umkhonto Surface to Air missiles fired during same exercise. Same Umkhonto missile that YOU said are fake and that the South African Navy DOES NOT HAVE just a few days ago.

Your opinion is a non entity. Zero matrix. It doesnt matter. It holds no weight.

Ramblings of a drowning South-African grasping at nothingness.

Nobody needs to visit soweto as the scenario has already played out.

A fisherman was the target,
Anthony Day and his crew were in the boat,
SA navy sailors fired their 76mm,
SA navy sailors missed.

Anthony Day VS incompetence,
Incompetence triumphs!
How far along are you in finding the requested link for Gripen pilots? Whats that? Silence? Oh okay

In a war scenario they would fire 3 rounds and stop? Go to lunch after that. Watch Game of Thrones. You have been shown videos of the American Navy firing numerous rounds at a target. More than 3 rounds landing in the water nearby. Thats how naval guns are..you fire a high burst at the target knowing rounds will miss, but it will eventually hit.

Again...why were only 3 rounds fired in a gun that carries hundreds of rounds? We would only fire 3 in war? Okay. Nice story again.

Bro, I have always repeated it here !

Gripen jet, Hawk jet, Artillery, IFV, Rooivalk, riflemen, all SANDF inexperienced green horns firing weapons into open sand or empty bush, in Hollywood videos and photos posted all over internet, firing at no specific target and no enemy that retaliates to shoot back at them.....ALL NA WASH...WISHY WASHY WASH !

Wait till SANDF faces an enemy well armed with weapons to fire back, then you will see the leaking holes of South Africa as a military äss-hole gringringrin

These guys CANNOT face Boko Haram inside Soweto township, inaccurate shooting will wipe out 50% of the innocent women and children while the real enemy dribbles SANDF around like Rhino poachers do, always do gringringrin
.
Kindly tell us how a brand new recruit into the Nigerian Army/Airforce/Navy trains. Whay do they fire at? Live humans? Or targets? We are not at war. You are. Deal with it.

Come to SA. Stand as a target for our gunners firing at you. See if you wont be torn to pieces. Sit in a vehicle and let us fire Ingwe at you. Sit on an old wreck and see of Exocet wont rip you apart. Stand down range of let R4 fire at you. You are more than welcome....since you say we will miss.

A navy with sailors that cannot swim, but fire weapons accurately will sink all the swimmer sailors and incompetent gunners on board South African warships.

The world is now seeing a the real exposed äss of South African navy ! A coast guard will sink SAN, because your Hollywood navy cannot shoot straight shocked shocked shocked

Ok. Nice story.

No navy fights war by jumping into to ocean like Olympic swimming competitors. Naval men sail in ships and fight in ships.

When your navy gets into the ocean, they can abandon ship and go swimming so that sharks can eat them.

[s]For South African navy, the world just found out your gunners are NOT qualified to use naval weapons on their own warships....

Fake blue water navy cheesycheesy[/s]
.
Aha. The thing you fail to comprehend is that if the Nigerian Navy skips the most basic step of swimming training, they clearly skip all other aspects. Swimming is the number one thing you learn in any Navy.

Why did the Nigerian Navy make your "officers" go on a mandatory swimming course after they realised more than half cant swim? Why didnt they leave the situation as it was? Why change it if its not important? Can you answer that? No you cant. Dont waste my time.

The SA navy could not hit an Aircraft carrier if it sailed right in-front of them.

An incompetent lot they are.

*The video the rounds sure destroyed the boat
Cool story. No questions of mine answered. As usual.

Henry120:
Nope, it was the incompetent SA navy

Even you can't be this naive. With 3 shells landing just 15 meters from the boat, they sure were trying to hit the boat. Any other navy would have sunk the boat.

The incompetence of the SA navy shone through.

The Skipper is taking the SA navy for it's incompetence. This incompetence saved his life.
How many rounds get fired in this video? And how many of them hit the water completely missing the target? Did more or less than 3 miss?
Did our and/or German warship fire a long burst at the fishing boat? What gun was used? Manual/automatic sights? Do you know? No you dont.

Search the internet for other similar videos and gauge the accuracy of naval guns (not missiles).

Not according to the articles from Defenceweb.
In 2013, the SAAF only had 6 qualified Gripen pilots, who fly a combined total of 120 hours.
So you see, your 6 qualified Gripen pilots aren't even qualified in the true sense.
There can be 10,000 qualified hawk pilots. What is however un-mistaken is you had on 6 qualified(un-qualified) pilots in 2013, and a total 18 Air crew for 26 fighter planes.
Article from 9 SEPTEMBER 2013

"Bayne said the Gripen fleet has flown 3 500 hours since 2008 while the 24-strong Hawk fleet has flown over 10 000 major accident-free hours since 2005. According to testimony at the arms deal commission, 18 Gripen aircrew (navigators and pilots) have been trained up to operational status to date and 52 Hawk aircrew have been trained so far."

Show us the link to the article from anywhere between 10 September 2013 to 31 December 2013 where it says 6 qualified Gripen pilots. Take your time.

Yes. A number 9 you completely made up.

Henry120:
You have a total 9 pilots and 9 navigators for a total of 18 air crew, for 26 planes.

You had 6 pilots in 2013.
Oh wow. Look at that...no link. Again! What a surprise.

In your head the only way to divide 18 is to say 9 + 9? Its completely above all comprehension to say 12 + 6 or 14 + 4? Your brain cant possibly fathom any other combination besides 9+9?

Mind you. Only 9 Gripen D (two seat which require navigators) were ordered. Why would they have a full complement of 9 navigators but not a full complement of pilots?
Foreign AffairsRe: Who Has The Strongest Military In Africa? by saengine: 12:00pm On Mar 27, 2015
Henry120:
Show us proof that you have 14 pilots for 26 fighter jets.
As i suspected. The number 9 was conjured up in the depths of your imagination. Don't you think it would have been a double blow if you had shown us proof of 9, and then demanded the proof of 14?

You made up the number 9. Shamelessly using it here as fact. How pathetic.

Not accurate.

You have 26 Gripens in service.
18 Aircrew (pilots and navigators)
In 2013 you only had 6 qualified Gripen pilots.
9 pilots and 9 navigators.
Show us proof!! Show us the link where you read the number 9 from. Why not just shut all of us up with a simple link?

Or you made up the number 9 which you have been peddling here for months. Where did you see the number 9?

If it takes you 16 years to raise 9 pilots, and you claim to have 30 years left in the Gripen, how long would it take you raise 26 pilots?

27 pilots by 2045.

Noted.

SAAF would have it's full compliment of Gripen pilots by the year 2045.
You have failed to show what source says 9 Gripen pilots. It only says 18 Gripen aircrew and 52 Hawk aircrew. Dont be shy...show us where you got the number 9 from. A simple link will be fine.
Foreign AffairsRe: Who Has The Strongest Military In Africa? by saengine: 2:01pm On Mar 26, 2015
Henry120:
Our November 2014 Defenceweb link states clearly that the SANDF only has 18 Gripen Aircrew (pilots & navigators) for 26 Gripen fighter jets.

they aren't numbers from years back. Actually numbers from 2013 showed the SAAF only had 6 qualified Gripen pilots.

New pilots get trained, they grew from 6 to 9 pilots.

I wonder what the correlation between NAF and it's proposed JF-17 deal is with the fact the SAAF has an embarrassing shortfall of Gripen pilots?

IHS Janes quoting a senior Pakistani Air officer said the NAF was about finalising a deal for the delivery of 25- 40 planes. This report comes from a very reputable source, very valid in the course of the discussions we have, and references would continue to be made.

JF-17 pilot trainings for the NAF cannot come in to play, as the NAF haven't yet signed the JF-17 contract.

However, I can assure you, if and when the JF-17 deal is finally signed, it would not take the NAF 15 years to train 9 pilots or 18 JF-17 Air crew.

Yet again, deal with your pilot shortfall. That's what you should be concerned with, not the NAF.

9 pilots - 26 planes - 16 years = that's an F!

Not a number to be proud of.
You are free to post the link. The number 18, is just that. 18. It says 18 Gripen aircrew (pilots and navigators) and 52 Hawk aircrew.
This is from September 2013. You are free to post the link which splits those 18 into 9 and 9.

Henry120:
Nope, you have a total 9 pilots and 9 navigators for 26 planes.
You brought in Cuban mercenaries to perform basic truck servicing. Trucks which you've always had in service.
The Cuban mercenaries can do it better since they have the requisite skill set, we cannot say the same for the SANDF.
I would love to see a link as of 2015, how many Gripen and Hawk pilots there are in the SAAF today. Keep posting numbers from years back
as if new pilots never get trained (from Hawk to Gripen). What processes happened behind closed doors between SANDF/SAAF/SAAB to formalize and complete the Gripen deal (work share etc etc) before pilots were sent to Sweden for initial training? You haven't the slightest clue.

If you say no Nigerian pilots are in China for JF-17 training because nothing has been signed, then please can we never again see a single
reference between Nigeria and JF-17 on this forum. Thank you.

You seem to be an expert on SAAF pilot numbers. Do share how many fighter pilots Nigeria has as of today.

SAAF did NOT fire ANY missile exercise Lion Effort, it was a video game cat and mouse chase around the air with other countries that have ZERO air combat experience in modern times. The Gripen family of users is a social club of Countries that have NOT fought any war in the past 20 years.

NAF has flown 6,000 combat missions in the past 6 months and we fired near BVR missiles in real combat training with world power Pakistani air force in game of death combat training
.
Lol okay. I see. Interesting.

More like at the ratio of 9 pilots to 26 Gripens.

15 years and counting.........

Mikeczar, why does the SAAF have so few pilots for a paltry 26 planes after 15 years?
1st Gripen delivered to SAAF in 2008. 2015-2008 =/= 15 years. 15 is a number conjured up in the depths of your imagination. I believe 2 or 3 pilots were sent to Sweden to train on the Gripen before that 1st delivery. How many Nigerian pilots are currently in China for the JF-17's "you're getting this year"?

Keep throwing the number 9 around. We must have an extreme overflow of Hawk pilots by now, since according to what you say non of them move onto the Gripen.

[s]Thanks ! So NAF does not need air to air jet fighter war experience, and NAF don't need air to air combat experience in a contested airspace because we already have the training with Pakistani air force using our F-7 jets with extra trainer versions PL-9C missiles with BVR range.
[/s]
NAF is superior to SAAF, we have fired BVR missiles in combat training with Pakistan, but SAAF has NEVER fired a single IRIS-T missile on Gripen jets, you have NO SINGLE training missiles IRIS-T, so your pilots training is incomplete and inferior.

[s]South African air force is dead....

1. No BVR missile
2. No missile training rounds
3. Only 6 pilots for Gripen
4. No fighter jet pilot qualified with combat rating 150 hours standard
5. No aviation fuel
6. Flights are restricted to V.I.P transport for ANC politicians only.

Mandela's air force is as dead as Mandela himself tonguetonguetongue[/s]

EXERCISE LION EFFORT 2012 - HELD IN SWEDEN

South African, Czech, Hungarian, and Swedish Air Forces took part.

Part of this multinational exercise included blue on red air-air combat, which included close range dog fights. Pilots had to fight to get missile locks and fire at the "enemy aircraft"

You are free to tell us if we fired real missiles or training missiles.

Take your time. Think it over.

Usual range is commonly expected use range for missiles and the usual range for A-Darter missile is ONLY 10 km, while maximum effective range is 20 km for A-Darter .

NAF has F-7 jet with near BVR missile range 35 km to destroy the entire SAAF in 5 minutes.
