elpiro:
good day all,
my PC(hp8440p) has issues:
It takes time to boot/load after a system format.
After loading(about 20mins), it doesn't show any content of the HDD.
how can I fix this issue and can I recover the contents of the HDD
your hard drive "may" be corrupt from the following causes:
1...some of system files may have been deleted, corrupt or missing
2..it may be weak therefore making the seek/write time to take longer..
3..it may have generated bad sectors ie data cant be read from certain sectors
4..another case of a chinko harddrive
as for your "contents not showin":
that is an obvious case of a corrupt partition table or mbr....
you can call me for your hard drive regeneration/data recovery as long as its not physivcally damaged......
pls desist from any "wannabe" tech that tell u they want to open the harddrive...hard drives shd only be open in an "air tight environment" which can only be provided by the manufacturer..in other words, the moment u open it,its spoilt

Morning.. Gurus help!

Case 1- my pc shows 'plugged in not charging' after like an hour of charging. but I noticed whenever I leave it jxt like that for the normal full charge time say 2hrs plus. And I off and On it back, it would be fully charged, so I think maybe I could manage this like that..

but another serious one now is , whenever I use the pc to like 48, 49, 50 % , nd I shut down the pc; then after few hours - 2 or 3 hrs.. I on it back and the ba3 is drained- was at 0%. Same thing happened yest..

I hope this is explanatory enough sire, the pc is hp g62 nd I jxt got it from a seller few days ago.

conclusion:
your battery is damaged and you need to replace it
possible causes:
1..incompatible charger.as i have advised many times,,"just 'cause it works doesnt mean its right"..a charger may be identical but may not be the same rating..dont be fooled by the shape,size,make(hp-hp,dell-dell) and the output voltage(18.5 v...its the ampere that really matters)..it just has to be the exact recommended charger ie 18.5v,3.5a is not the same as 18.5v,,4.5a or 19v,3.5a(see my previous posts of my illustration using 3men of the same age but different power) and how it affects the health of your battery..
2...fake battery..if you look around,u'd find plenty substandard products called "china products"...and the only reason we patronize them cause they are affordable...original hp batteries cost from $55-100 while a charger cost $30-50 so tell me how do they cost 5000naira here...but we psych ourselves they would still last a while and we can easily replace them..even "follow comes" nowadays are mixed with "chinas" just to make a sale..if ur lucky to find a God fearing Tech or seller to sell u one then its fine else u just buy the "chinko" battery or charger and read the manual carefully grin grin grin

4. The blueooth device is not working, its not seeing any device and cannot be seen
What can I do solve these problems.
Pls, I would love a step-by-step process if possible.

Pls adm. I don't know if this is the right place to post my problem. I have a Toshiba Window 8 ultrabook laptop core 13 (the type that looks like an iPad, you can slide it to reveal the keypad, it has no CD/DVD ROM only USB slot). The problem is when it is powered on it only shows "Password=_" at the top left hand corner of the screen without displaying the window logo. Some one told me it is asking for an administrators password. Pls can any tech guru in the house help me out with the password? pls & pls I need your help asap.

try this
before u confirm sending an item from ur phone, go to the task bar and double-click on the Bluetooth icon, click on receive file from the pop-up. then go ahead and confirm sending from ur fone to PC. thank u
"A required CD/ DVD drive device driver is missing" by donpata is a perfect example of what i was discussing with u on phone today...the power of Dos and programming as it relates to modern day computing and how it makes u more powerful than just the basic windows user...
take it as a case study and maybe later...i can personally show u in person...if u check many threads on google...u will read the major causes are what shawlax described..true only by 5% occurrence but wen u use a MD5 or sha1 to authenticate your downloaded iso and u even eliminate the possibility of a fake flash and download all the drivers in the world and yet u dont get any answer then u begin to wonder deeper...
read between the lines of my response with him an use that to empower urself in ur quest to know...
familiarise urself with the DISKPART MODE and in this case pause it at the "clean" command..
good luck....i hope u can make it on time so u can give donpata the rest of the answer/guidelines...

hi gurus. I bought a freedos laptop from jumia and I tried to install windows. win 10 installed but I hate it. refuses almost all my software installs due to compatibility. I decided to use win 7. tried installing from flash but after loading, it gives me an error saying ""A required CD/ DVD drive device driver is missing". I've search online and tried all solutions I saw but no way. I decided to get a win 7dvd thinking its cos of flash, still, same problem. spent 2 days on this already. laptop is Acer aspire e5-571. thanks
thats a simple one but very technical...not driver related as most people tink...
you will have to invoke an elevated dos "cmd with admin privilege" during installation and enter the "diskpart" environment
actually the "clean" command in diskpart mode resolves this issue but as i said it technical cuz u may wrongly wipe other tins

Help needed. My hp pavilion dv9000 laptop with Windows 7 OS doesnt wake up when sleeps unless i remove the battery. Pls how do i correct this?
then its in coma.... grin grin grin grin grin ;Di dont use sleep or hibernation and never really liked it....its normal atimes what you are experiencing.....but u dont need to remove your battery..just press the power button down for a few seconds to power off...in some cases,it would restore else it would delete the restoration data(same as when u remove the battery) and boot up normally..
here are possible risks u may encounter in the future,if u continues to power down or remove your battery:
1...your os may be corrupt and not start up...
2...automatic repair would start coming up frequently
3..your hard drive may damage completely or generate bad sectors that would hinder startup or smooth running of your operating system
so bear in mind all these before u press sleep or remove ur battery

Due to my very low budget, i had no choice but to opt for a low spec laptop. Its an Hp Compaq nx6125 with 896MB worth of RAM, 1.6GHz clockspeed and came with a windows xp sevice pack 2 pre-installed.

I tried installing Metatrader 4 (a charting application for trading FOREX) on it, but it keeps getting declined. I have been advised to install windows 7 on it, but i am very skeptical considering it has a low RAM and clockspeed.

Do you think i should increase the RAM, to say 2gig, and go ahead with the windows 7 installation??

On a second thought, i am guessing if i install windows xp service pack 3, the mt4 would install. Do you also think this is possible??

Please advise me accordingly. Thank you
Install Windows 7..it's way lighter than xp and 2gig is just alright..as long as it's a 32bit..in addition, make sure the antivirus ur loading on it shd be a light one so it doesn't consume most of the memory..
In other words,u can turn the laptop into a dedicated system running only the software..that way the system utilizes only the 2gig

Don't know how to. Once I press the power button, the next step is the password entry.
Ur user profile is corrupt..there are just 2options:
1..invoke the backup from the registry
2..create another user profile so as to inherit the rights of the previous profile(that wa why he was asking u if there was another user acct)
Here's the problem..forcing Windows 8 and 10 into safe mode is tricky and u can't even get past the password page else u wld have used the script I provided yesterday to force it..
The simpliest way I know is to use an installation cd to do it..there,u wld find many options that can lead anywhere if not carefully followed...the last option(expert mode) is to use brute force to bypass that password page and create an admin profile..
Be advised,As simple as this Writeup may seem, severe actions may occur(diy freaks) like deleting ur entire profile and losing ur files or even wiping out the system

Good day friends.... I recently updated my laptop that came with 8.1 to Windows 10....and today when I booted it it kept saying "kernel auto boost lock acquisition with raised Irql" that's before it restarts.... Attached is an image of it pls anybody know how to rectify this issue? Googled the problem and I was told to enter safe mode which I did but the problem still persists.....
2 possible causes...:
1,,your bluetooth
2..your wireless
uninstall one at a time ie first uninstall ur bluetooth and check if you are still experiencing the error
else
unistall your wireless drivers and check also..
not to worry,we would install them back later but at the moment, they are the likely causes
you can call me on 08061679732 for guidance and quick response
below is a script to enable you boot directly into safe mode..just paste it on ur desktop and dbl click on it

bear in mind,if your windows 7 license was cracked....windows would block it upon update
if so,you are advised to do a clean windows 10 installation

avast!.always the usual suspect..its main disadvantages are its large in memory and the default is set to always scan before you open anything(that is the reason some people complain it slows down their system and in some rare cases,it crashes"
personally why i dont like it is:it has no tolerance ie it resolves virus/virus like activities by "deletion"...they leave nothing to chance so imagine if its an important file that infected especially a system file then the system becomes unstable..
i suggest and recommend kaspersky antivirus (not kaspersky internet security)
YES it would work but not perfectly-it would be slow eventually..i dont understand your love for windows 8(its the version lost between 7 and 10)...be mindful that the 2gig would be shared among all the other resources on your laptop(i provided a screenshot of mine so u can understand what i mean)..when you open ur browser and open multiple tabs, you use up more memory..(compare the 2nd screenshot when i open more tabs, from an initial 154mb)and i even use an 8gig memory..
Yes its possible to CLONE(not copy) a windows 8 if,and only if you want to mirror exactly what was on the previous 160g to the new 320gig..
NO! (judging by your earlier question of "so hw du i download 8.1"winkyou cant copy windows 8 "installed" files between systems;it has to be installed..

ComputersRe: Post Your Computer (PC) Troubles Here. by sameolg616(m): 9:11pm On Mar 11, 2016

its simply as you have been advised....you can only make a clean installation to upgrade to 64bit..
windows 10 is way beta than windows 8 so why still insist on windows 8..
as for your slow system....many factors may be responsible...:
1...2gig probably running a windows 7 32bit is not bad but an upgrade(4gig) would be beta if u intend to upgrade to win 10 64bit
2.you need a registry booster to refresh your system off invalid entries
3...your sys configuration needs to be manually set to disable unwanted programs from startup and services
4...a virus like activity may be present
5..your antivirus may be loading your memory....this is one major factor considered in choosing an AV.kaspersky is a winner
6..from your statement "and it works really sloow when m connected to d internet."...automatic updates may be downloading in the background while your on the internet

Why must I ask them to call me when I can easily tell them what they need to know online? I provide free online helpdesk services and if anybody feels like contacting me, my details are available on my profile.

If all the tech guys here start asking everybody to call, what do you think will happen?

Oga, now it's very obvious that you know absolutely nothing about real tech support. You're just a wanna-be, looking for some quick petty cash here and there.

I don't ask questions because I'm itching to chat. That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard. I ask questions because I'm trying to understand the problem better.

Perhaps you think that I'm just a road-side technician?

For your information, I'm a trained Systems Engineer(Prof. Diploma) and Information Technologist(BSc).

Try not to attack me ever again. I'm not your average tech guy.
No need to be complexed my guy..I meant no harm and this is no contest...u Neva see battle,u dey draw up ur arsenal(pro diploma and infor tech(bsc) only..)those were achievements for me wen I was just 17-18yrs old...
As for ur chat passion, bro u can just ask them to call u or see things for urself by organizing a teamviewer session..I get calls regularly from pple who ain't even from NAIRAland cuz my number pops up everytime they search google for answers...
We are on the same side with same interests, goals but our methods may differ..2create change,u must be willing to provoke thot and conversation..

ComputersRe: Post Your Computer (PC) Troubles Here. by sameolg616(m): 11:00am On Mar 08, 2016
BetaTechnicians:
I'm sorry but your approach is really odd, best practices in troubleshooting is to undo the last action and in this case it's an hardware upgrade which can easily be reversed and the situation re-accessed. Even if you any OEM customer support today, that's what you'll be told.
and yes, a bad ram may still boot a computer but would affect functionality a great deal, but while that hasn't been ascertained in this case, it's the best place to start troubleshooting from.

and
there's nothing wrong with the method used by shawlxAk i.e. asking series of questions, because this is a remote support so the person at the other end has to provide sufficient information before you can make an inference.
So u understand beta-to undo a last action means ur forfeiting the need to know knowledge of wat actually happened which can be used effectively for future actions.in fact it helps u understand the problem beta so u don't start asking redundant questions..from my experience and his dialogue-I knew ram was the least problem..so troubleshooting doesn't have to start from there...
As for his ram suggestion-point noted and not a likely cause in this situation.
I'm not against his method but I tink part of our job is to deploy beta and effective ways to help pple...threads are easier to follow wen short and in a piece..he could equally adopt my strategy of asking them to call in more sensitive and severe situations..in truth,I'm a busy person and that the only way to keep up with me..I'm most cases,I arrange a teamviewer session to diagnose the problem myself instead of asking the plenty questions-posters can be misleading Atimes..I waited for the right moment to interfere...I still tink it's wrong to ask them to open up the ram..in case he doesnt know, the poster may fry up his motherboard by just conducting static electricity from his body

Folks, well done. Having ds issue ref in the attached picture. I've tried working on the BIOS setting, especially d network boot order but all proved abortive. Could it be that d HDD is dead as id even restore BIOS setting to default but not forthcoming. Thanks. NB: it's an HP desktop.
test1:
disable the pxe mode and move it further down the boot priority....(atimes ur system may continue cycling in boot mode wen in pxe network boot and set as priority 1.
reason:its attempting to boot through the network but u obviously don't have an ethernet cable plugged in or a network to boot from. )
then retry....
snapshot the priority boot order and state clearly the processor class of the desktop(eg pentium 4)
state the os on it as well (eg windows 8 or w7
test2:
if its windows 7..
disable secure boot.....and set boot mode to "legacy"
if its windows 8
disable secure boot ...set boot mode to "uefi"
test3:
lastly, use the hard drive test to diagnose ur HDD.....
snapshot the results

And who told you that a computer with a failing RAM cannot boot? Note: Failing, not failed.

He started by saying the problem began since he upgraded the RAM. And so it's normal to start troubleshooting from that point. Ok?

A defective RAM can cause a whole lot of issues, including crashes and random freezes.

You are saying this because you left him your number? I'm just trying to help as much as I can. Nobody is stopping him from calling you. So what's your problem?
before u start asking pple to open up their systems to remove ram chips,u need to assess them by asking "can u locate and remove your ram"..their next response would dictate ur next move else u ask the to meet a tech..
i could read ow u have been itching to chat and chat to keep the conversation going with ur 1 liners:

"Was the RAM upgrade the only thing that you did?"
"Is it a single 2GB RAM module? Or 2 pieces of 1GB RAM module?"..(for a moment,it felt like a whatsapp chat)vexing if u would ask me...

i always leave my number cuz i dont av time to assess situations like u do and i dont dont live on nairaland to keep checking every minute for updates..
