Former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi has visited Niger State to commiserate with the government and people over the devastating floods that have wreaked havoc in Mokwa and surrounding communities.

Obi, who was accompanied by former Finance Minister Nenadi Usman and Dr Yunusa Tanko, was received by the Deputy Governor, Yakubu Garba, on behalf of Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago.

During his visit, Obi described the scale of destruction as “heartbreaking,” citing the loss of over 200 lives, nearly 1,000 persons still missing, and more than 3,000 displaced residents, with several homes and properties destroyed.

The former Anambra State Governor said he had earlier, while in the UK, placed a condolence call to Governor Bago to express his sympathies.

A member of the Peoples Democratic Party’s Board of Trustees, Bode George, has expressed dismay over the sealing of the PDP’s national secretariat by the Federal Capital Territory Administration due to unpaid ground rent.

George said it was painful that the Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike, under whose authority the FCTA carried out the action, is a member of the PDP.

Officials of the FCTA sealed the PDP headquarters, also known as Wadata Plaza, in Abuja on Monday during the enforcement of the revocation of 4,794 properties for non-payment of ground rent, which ranged from 10 to 43 years.

Properties owned by government institutions, corporate organisations, and individuals were also affected.

Former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has disclosed that he once told President Bola Tinubu that he will never work with him.

Amaechi said he decided never to work or vote for Tinubu because the President lacked the capacity to govern Nigeria.

Amaechi said: “I told Tinubu in Yola, I will not support you; I will not work for you. I did not work for him; I did not vote for him. It was the issue of capacity.

“Some of us who are here are also those who vote on an ethnic or religious basis. Innocent, uneducated people are manipulated to vote based on ethnicity and religion — that’s why we are here.

The suspended Governor of Rivers State, Sim Fubara, has hinted on the restoration of peace with his predecessor and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike.

Fubara said there is no reason why there won’t be peace between him and his “Oga” referring to Wike.
