I'm Igbo, do I really have a right?
My ethnic group is Igbo, do my people have a right to choose their country?
I'm a christian, can I worship as I deem fit?

If you say yes to the above then why are you hounding me over subsidy protest? Why are you angry at me for leaving in 1967? Why are you killing me in the north even when I was fleeing for  my "landlocked" homeland?

You won the war, you have all the states and local government areas, you have the army, you have the navy, you have FCT, you have taken most of oil producing Igbo communities out of Igboland, you killed 50,000 of my people in 2 months (1966 pogrom), you killed over 2 million of my people when you declared war on us for daring to leave you, you rigged the census and have continued unabated, you gave my people 20 pounds, you have no federal presence in my land, you systematically purged my people from civil service after the civil war, you created hate between my people and their neighbours, you designated my people's property as abandon, and you have all the presidency to yourself before and after the civil war. You have it ALLLL! You don't need me! Leave me alone, please I beg you leave me alone! What more do you want from me?  

The pain I bear you don't know, the humiliation you brought to me you don't realize, the anger in me is better left unleashed, please let me be.

In my heart of hearts I wished you would leave me and at least enjoy your war booty but I have come to understand that the reason you refused to leave me alone is not because you are inherently bad, its not because you are perpetually evil, no its not. The reason you have refused to leave me alone is because you are incapable of doing so.

You may gloat on my pains, anger, loss, etc but I will forgive you. However, the humiliation and shame you brought to me is personal and will carry consequences. I counted my losses very very long time ago and during that time I stopped crying, I stopped seeking for your justice, I stopped believing in you, I knew I was on my own and embraced my fate, I knew you owed me in material terms, I knew you owed me in blood and tears, and then, and then, I knew that someday I would find you and I would reciprocate your "kindness" knowing you wouldn't consider it personal.

I will respect the decision of my people and why we at it let us use this period to reflect on the man, Ojukwu, and remember that he did great things for our people at a young age. Most of us today are within this age bracket which means we must be ready to serve and, if need be, lay down our lives for the emancipation of our people. There is a little Ojukwu in every Igbo/eastern man and woman. For me and my family I would say this - I shall not rest neither shall I weary nor slumber until my people are free from Nigeria. Nigeria woke up the giant in all us and its our duty to unleash this giant at the fullness of time. I say this to my people - lets keep towing the part of virtue, love for our Lord and people, and science and maths, because this cookie is going to crumble any time. Let's ignore but not overlook our detractors and evil wishers, lets take note of them and respond with strategic military silence. Let us bear the pain and humiliation Nigeria and her "owners" have shown us with unbreakable fortitude and be ready to unleash our venom when the time is right. We are united in aspiration and freedom. We are united and will remain united, despite Nigerian torpedoes we have carved a formidable nation with one dream, justice, love, equality, and freedom for all.

I will not say goodbye to Ikemba, not yet. Ndigbo si "nwata welu ike bulie nna ya elu, nyoyo ogodo ayochie ya anya" Nigeria tried to toss us up in a hurry and our "ogodo" has blocked their sight, need I say their sight will remain blocked until the last battle?

I'm yet to see the gain in winning the presidency. I rather be a janitor in a country that resembles Luxembourg with its little population and landmass than being the president of a country that slaughters its people annually.

Democracy gives people right to make choices as them deem fit. If Igbos are "cowards" and "chickens" like you said how is that your problem? I hate to comment on silly threads but this hypocrisy is nauseating. Before you ask Igbos to protest do you first ask the Nigerian state how many short-changings and injustices it has perpetrated on Igbos since the end of civil war? Maybe you fail to realize that what many in Nigeria are complaining today Igbos have seen 10x. We all need to quit calling people names because they peacefully chose a different path unless this is no longer democracy. FYI Igbos challenged 1966 pogrom with the rest of the east alone, they fought the war alone, Yorubas were the main group that took up the injustice meted out to MKO, Ijaws have been fighting their battle practically alone, Zango Kataf have been doing their thing alone, Berom is resisting their former ally all alone, Ogoni stood alone during their own ordeal, so tell me when has Nigeria spoken with one voice? This country was founded on lies upon lies upon lies and for any particular group in 2012 to act like they are mr innocent is laughable. At this point the only protest worth embarking on is for national conference considering the murderous level we have descended to.

A people at war needs strategy, what is our strategy? Is our strategy to eliminate eachother before the enemy arrives? or should we pull our weights together for once and put out this fire that is hellbent in roasting all of us?

For once lets put aside our individual hate, ego, and arrogance and save our future. The population of Nigeria was around 50 million in 1960, today its 160-170 million and by 2050 we 'ld be counting maybe 280-350 million with our lands being over-used and oil probably gone; combustible mixture obviously. With this scenario one needs not a bearded prophet to predict the outcome [fulani will need more land for grazing - Berom would probably be exterminated - Ebonyi and Ekiti will become our new buffer zone]. We need Moses in Yoruba and Igbo now.

@Logic Mind: Ndigbo (precisely Obowu people) si "ede nwere ihe ohuru bee nwii." My brother pls tap down your anger and look at the bigger picture. All ethnic groups in nigeria will forever remain neighbors therefore I see no strategic gain in designating them enemies. Yoruba and Igbo are big players in Nigeria and by extension West Africa and that trend will likely continue therefore, it makes no sense in not working with them in areas of common interest. I'm not suggesting a naive alliance ok, I'm advocating for a strategic partnership to rid ourselves of the weight we've been sharing since 1914. We already have the core north breathing down our neck, the last thing we need is to alienate a potential ally. I know the line I'm advocating may not be popular because some of us probably have experienced some kind of hate from other ethnic groups but thats besides the point. The main point is that Yoruba cant secede alone neither is Igbo currently ready to do so because they don't want a repeat of 67-70, therefore don't you think it makes sense for both groups to start having some kind of underground dialogue? Brother I'm not here to sermonize on my life experience but if you see what I've seen you probably would want to try and build some alliance rather than alienate. The Nigerian mess has gone too far and its got to stop somehow, I bet Lord Lugard would be shocked to see us still fixing this dead locomotive.

I have long known that southerners are a bunch of joke. With all the education we have we still cant find our way out of this sinking ship called Nigeria. Most people on this site spend awful amount of time telling others what is good for them, in fact out of frustration they have resorted to insults because their audience seem to be un-moved. Seems like slave master's game plan if you know what I mean (remember Kunta Kinte). To drive home my point, we all know our great prof Soyinka is right and to hide under any guise; be it ethnicity or otherwise is plain foolishness. Time to seek freedom and happiness is now, any more minute we spend castigating Igbo, Yoruba, Hausa-Fulani, Ijaw, Isoko etc is a minute spent in misery.

I urge all people of Lower Nigeria that have always cherished freedom, peace, love, and collaborative competition amongst eachother to take a moment and think of the future of their children. Do you think Nigeria as it's currently constituted is capable of delivering peace and harmony to your children? Do you think beating down your fellow peaceful, educated, freedom seeking, and business minded southerner be he Yoruba, Igbo, Ijaw, etc is going to solve our problem? Winning internet war against Igbo or Yoruba isn't it furtile given that both groups have never and will never declare war on each other? Of all ethnic groups in Nigeria there is only one ethnic group that has either fought or initiated war against the rest in different times in our history and we all know that group does not belong to Lower Nigeria.

While its correct to say Yorubas, Igbos, Ijaws, Isokos, Beroms, etc would rather want independent nations of their own than to live in another new Nigeria with new lords and masters, it's also correct to say that the first and wisest thing for them to do is to form a unified front and break from Nigeria. After the break whoever decides to form alliance with whomever is free to do so and whoever wants to stay as a separate republic is also free. I understand there will always be tribalists in Yoruba and Igbo who will never like eachother even if their heavenly salvation depends on it, but must your hate for eachother surpass your love for your children? Have you not heard of strategic partnership? In fact to buttress the point further with the recent USA cable release, we all saw that Saudi Arabia is in bed with Israel because of Iranian nuclear program but is any one here in doubt of Saudi's eternal hate for Israel?

Guys, guys pls, I am Igbo but I love my people more than I hate Yorubas or any other ethnic group and for that I would be an eternal fool not to cooperate with anyone in areas of common interest. Nigeria isn't going to work not because its Hausa's fault or Igbo/Yoruba's fault but rather foundational fault. We are diametrically opposed in our orientation, politics, world out-look, education, and even religion. Is it any wonder why core north gave Osama Bin laden the highest support during 9/11? Igbo nor Yoruba didn't make core north give Osama Bin Laden this epic support but somehow this supposedly educated group have continued to act blind in the face of reality.

In Nigeria today no body is winning lest no one beat his chest. In honesty I think southern Nigeria has helped core north miss out on their God given potentials, I have no doubt that if and when core north stays on their own they stand a chance of given their people the prosperity, orientation, and proper Islamic studies that their political thieves have denied them, in fact the north, in a short period, will know so much peace that would rival Switzland. What we see today as Boko haram are deadly thugs been used by power hungry few who will be properly side-lined in the new Hausa-Fulani republic. Therefore my secular peace and freedom loving Lower Nigerian fellows, the time has come for us carve out our own future. This deadly future carved by the British isn't working rather it has brought hate and civil war to all of us. Time has come for us to either renegotiate it or disband it totally and in doing so lets do it out of love for our children and also for the children of core north.

It's true it hurts to let go a people or a group that have really injured you so much, sometimes you want to extract some pound of flesh so bad that you don't even see you are becoming insane, however, in this case we have to love our children more than that "enemy." I watched a documentary on Latin American peoples sometime ago where a female senator (Mayan) was cooperating with an ex-president (now a senator too) who committed genocide on Mayan people, it was humbling to see how calm and composed she was during the whole process. Brothers time has come to throw away this old un-ending tit-for-tat and bickering because innocent lives are at stake here and those lives deserve better from Igbo and Yoruba.

@Onlytruth: I get your point brother but sometimes things make things happen. Waiting for things to take its natural path can some times be long and painful that's why great men often take the bull by the horn. I used to dismiss nairaland before as a black stormfront but after realizing the high traffic it generates and the similarity of the dreams and hopes of southern Nigerians I had to change direction. I think we can use nairaland as a lunch-pad for southern solidarity. We all know as it is today no geopolitical zone is leaving this nation for reasons you know too well. However, we all can make it a duty to start changing how we respond to hate mongering fellow NLers. We don't have to go to the trenches with them rather we should help educate our fellow secular Nlers on the need to pull the weight of east, west, and MB together. I know you usually shun silly threads but at this point the future of our children behoves on you to make disciples out this ethnic sharks therefore, shunning wont be enough you also need to start winning them with wisdom. Let them know no single ethnic group will be greatly successful in securing the future of her children, it has to be the collective effort of all peace loving Lower Nigeria. You have the charisma and passion to help pull it off. I read some time ago in one of the threads where you told Al Harem that you are a realist and pragmatist and that what you want is the best deal for Igboland, I tell you that is the spirit. You, Shangothor, Beaf, Jason123, Ekt_bear are also pragmatist even though some of these guys' views can some times clash with yours.

Beaf, Onlytruth, and Shangothor, I have seen that you guys have an undying passion for a true and secular Nigeria and I can tell you guys have realized that secular and free Nigeria will never be in this life. Now, my question is - what do we do? I used "we" because I'm really tired of nursing a 50 year old baby that has absolutely no prospect of survival neither does it want to live to begin with. I have my own ans to the question above but before I give my own ans I would like to say that after reading many posts here there is one thing I noticed and that is - people from southern Nigeria and MB are sick of what is happening in Nigeria.

Given this Southern/MB solidarity in opinion, I think we all should see ourselves as brothers and then work to liberate what I call the "New Nigeria." Please I want you guys to know that this idea was first posted on nairaland by Shangothor lest no one arrogate it to me eventhough I have believed in it even before visiting nairaland. With the above in mind the following below are my own ans or if you may, steps to freedom.

1. We should start a movement online to liberate the secular part of Nigeria which happens to be "lower Nigeria" from this certain destruction that awaits it.

2. This movement shall include all freedom loving ethnic groups and they all must be recognized as equals irrespective of numerical strength, also each ethnic group must be regarded as independent, independent in the sense that they have all the right under the sun to choose their path after we have broken lose from Nigeria.

3. This movement will be responsible for aggressive online campain that will seek all available platform to lure our youths and convince our olds. (while this sounds like a brainwashing cult, lets realize that as long our belief is widespread in our zones its just a matter of time before our message takes center stage. besides if Boko haram, alqueda, and other militant sects, even as unwise and devious as they are have members and somewhat huge support in their domain I don't see why we cant pull off this noble cause).

4. We must not ANTAGONIZE the Muslims amongst us in any shape or form after all southern Muslims have never done any evil and should be respected.

5. All the freedom and secular loving NLers should be sweet-talked into dropping their hate for eachother and understand that its better to be allies in this noble cause than to be bickering, and on this note I say lets convince CYberg, Ezeuche, Sheguy, PointB, Jason123, Ileke-Idi, Ekt_bear etc to see the need using this unfortunate rare opportunity that Boko Haram has given us to create a massive movement that will save and secure our children's future.

6. This movement shall make it a duty to have some form of reconciliation b/w Yoruba and Igbo. Yes, its true we Igbos feel bad about the role of Awo but there were also Yorubas that fought on our side and there were Igbos that fought on the side of Nigeria therefore we should 4give and make up. The same thing applies to Ijaw even though I can say Igbos and Ijaws have gotten along pretty well for some time now. To cut the long story short, we should move closer to eachother to enable healing for the sake of our children.

7. This movement should use Nairaland for a start and when we secure reasonable number of members we then should lunch a site that caters for our cause without any political correctness.

8. I know its going to take time, believe me it will but lets see this the way Awo, Zik, and A. bello saw colonialism and attacked it head-on until they achieved our phantom independence. Like I said earlier, if alqueda and boko haram are successful in creating this ugly monster that is ravaging us today I dont see why we shouldn't be able to create a movement that will not only counter it but will insulate us from their virus.

Most importantly, please lets not forget that the division of Igbo and Yoruba was and still is an effective tool that "they" have milked and milked and woe betide us if we help core north milk it any further. Its time to say enough is enough and profess our admiration for each other. Igbo is not the devil neither is Yoruba betrayer, coward etc rather I would say Yoruba can be calm and positively cunning, Yes I said it and guess what - heaven has not fallen neither has Igbo lost its glory. The import is that there is absolutely nothing wrong in admiring the positive attribute of ur neighbor even if its an enemy. Infact I believe it makes one strong to be able to see the good quality in ones neighbor.

Finally, I want to say that what I wrote above can not in any shape or form be said to represent or cover the rules or ideas that should govern this movement, in fact lets just say the author of this piece is bereft of rule making and therefore can not lay claim of formulating any rules however, the author believes there is a rare opening for a movement in which Yoruba, Igbo, Ijaw, Isoko, Efik, Ibibio, Igala, Berom etc will, for the sake of their children's future, abandon their agelong bickering and forge a common front geared towards liberating the more secular "Lower Nigeria."

Is it better to have a bigger Nigeria and yet live in fear of travelling around your country or have a smaller country and be safe? please don't buy into the garbage of having a bigger country that will protect you incase of invasion, the truth is Nigeria couldn't protect bakassi people so what makes us think they will protect us. Besides who is invading us to begin with, is it Niger? Benin republic? Ghana? I know that OPC can defeat those armies so who then wants to invade us? I guess its America, Russia, or China - well News Flash - those countries will defeat us anyway so whats the point having a bigger Nigeria.

Is it better to have a bigger Nigeria and yet live in fear of travelling around your country or have a smaller country and be safe? please don't buy into the garbage of having a bigger country that will protect you incase of invasion, the truth is Nigeria couldn't protect bakassi people so what makes us think they will protect us. Besides who is invading us to begin with, is it Niger? Benin republic? Ghana? I know that OPC can defeat those armies so who then wants to invade us? I guess its America, Russia, or China - well News Flash - those countries will defeat us anyway so whats the point having a bigger Nigeria.

All ethnic groups that want to live in peace should start sending signals to each other. We have already wasted 50 years for nothing and I think if we waste another 50 years living like this then we really deserve our misery. I have lost all trace of hope in Nigeria, we are too polarized to head in one direction. Its time to commence a new Nigeria that is trully secular and this New Nigeria Republic shall be founded on equality, justice, and freedom.

Enough of this senseless killings. So much blood has been spilled just to save Nigeria and it has never occured to our leaders that maybe we are trying to save a dead nation. Some people say Igbo and Yoruba can never live together and I say what about lagos and PH, what about Bonny where Igbo and Ijaw are chilling night and day? Lets think about the future of our children, do we want them to inherit this mess? I remember way back when I used to think people were foolish for leaving for other countries but it dawned on me when I came of age that I needed to get out. For how long shall we live in fear of our army, police, vigilantes, and Boko Haram. There's got to be a way and its obvious Nigeria isn't that way.

Yoruba and Igbo are holding secular Nigerians who want to live and worship in peace hostage. If the leadership of both groups can start honest dialogue, there is no way we wont be free in few years. For the sake of our children Ohaneze and Afeneferi should start dialogue and I believe if they do, other groups would join as soon as they see the two big groups in the south close ranks. Before you hate or insult me pls think it over, Like I said before I have tried not to hate the core north but at the same time I want to live in peace and happiness just like I want the core north to live in peace too. I want a nation where I'm free to worship God, Baal, Marmaid, or even Ashawo as long as it makes me sleep at night. I want a nation where I'm free to drink or not to drink, smoke or not smoke.

The problem with Igbo and Yoruba is that they have refused to look at pre-biafran war, we all have continued to at the post war and until we look at how Igbo and Yoruba engaged in healthy competition that characterized our pre-independence then we are doomed. These groups must shove threats, ego, and arrogance aside and rise up and talk now for the future of our children.

Realchange, I feel you bro. believe me it hurts but lets be wise. Yoruba and Igbo are brothers, I mean brothers in real sense both genetically and culturally. Its like saying Igbo should fight Ijaw or Efik. I would never fight against a yoruba man if it involves taking his life - count me out. I would want them to remain neutral if that will make them happy but to fight against yoruba and hausa at the same time, bro thats going be a cataclysmic failure of unimaginable propotion especially given our current technological level.

I have read so much on nairaland to know who is who. Its a pity the only thing that will appease some of our southern fellows is for Igbos to roll over and call them lord of lords. However, I have news for those southern fellows and that is-it aint happnin. Huasa-fulani people killed igbos and the rest of Nigeria joined in making sure that "aggresive Igbos" were put in their propper place. Today, Boko haram has started killing christians and it seems we, Igbos, are recording high casualties and what do we see - Sheyguy, Lagoshia, jason234 and some other seemingly educated southerners are implicitly insinuating that Igbos either caused it by either their statements or their 99% vote for GEJ. Its a shame the rest of southerners want to make it Igbo-Hausa affair and probably looking for a way to screw Igbos again. But you know what, If southerners want to make it Igbo - Hausa affair then I ask that they completely remain neutral and not screw our effort because Igbos are more than able to deliver a crushing blow to this manace.

Besides, CHYZ I used to like reading your posts but it amazes me how you turned into Beaf-hater. I still have some respect for you but my brother you've got to see Beaf and Frosbel as sincere southern fellows who are sick of this un-ending hurt from core north. Frosbel's Igbo or no Igbo is immaterial, whats important is the truth in his message. Let me ask you and other southern christians this question and before I go further lets just say core north and other nigerian muslems are totally against Boko haram. Now the question is this - who stands to gain if all christians are wiped out or depopulated in Nigeria? Who gains if christians become minority in Nigeria? You see, before you enjoy the killing or maiming of Igbo christians think about who gains when the deed is finally done because you might wake up to discover you're next in the chopping block.

Some muslems and northerners are really against what is happening, I really believe some are disguted by it, but that didnt save the lives of those brothers who met their untimely death for no just cause. Mind you, when all Igbos and christians are finally in their graves those "good muslems" would weep for us and afterwards enjoy their new majority.

Igbos and concerned southerners please lets look out for our common interest, lets pull our resources together and challange this carnage. In as much as we thank the good muslems for their courage lets realize its our lives that are at stake and do something about it.

My God! I have tried not hate Hausa-Fulani, yes I have and God knows I did try but its very very dificult at this point to keep trying. I really do not know if I support reprisal just for the sake of it or just to teach them a lesson. I cant even believe I'm here talking about taking another man's life.

We all know its always good to know whats going on in one's country especially if one is living abroad, but what about one's sanity? Reading Nigerian news in times like this can make one go crazy and become bloodthirsty. I want to go have a hair cut but I really cant drive after reading how a brood of vipers mowed down my people! However, I have reserved a big Hello to Onlytruth and Beaf and to make it a little interesting I have decided to call Beaf "Nwanne di na mba." Beaf you are one tough guy, Even though you have have flaws just like every other person you have shown to be firm and I respect that. I know it hurts to see our "near-omipotent subsidy" go but the truth is - it's time has come and its got to go. May I add here that if I were to be in a battle of life and death, I would choose Beaf, Onlytruth, ShongorThor, (including others I cant remember now) to join me, these guys are real men.
