ELECTIVE COURSE: WHAT DOES IT MEAN IN NOUN? Briefly, elective courses are basically courses you can register according to preference and weight of your pocket per semester. Letter "E" stands for elective. In other words, any course you see letter "E" shows that it is an elective course. For instance, in NOUN the minimum elective course to register in a semester is one (1). The maximum number of "E" depends on your pocket, intellectual capacity, and choice. The opposite of elective course is compulsory course. In a nutshell, compulsory courses are those courses that are compulsory for students in a particular department to register in a semester. There are implications for not offering any elective course in a semester when you have them available among your courses to offer. To sum up, student portal, nouonline.net is open and active, get done your registration as soon as possible. MISHA CARES 09051481358

Bangladesh High Commission poised to collaborate with NOUN on ODL, others The High Commissioner of the People's Republic of Bangladesh to Nigeria, His Excellency Mr. Masudur Rahman, has said his country is desirous to go into collaboration with the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) in the areas of Open and Distance Learning (ODL), research, linkages, amongst others. Rahman, accompanied by the Consular, Political Affairs of the High Commission, was speaking during a courtesy visit to the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Olufemi Peters, at the university headquarters in Abuja. He said such collaboration is so imperative, as apart from the fact that the Bangladesh Open University (BOU) operates on a similar mode as NOUN, the two countries share a number of similarities. While underscoring the importance of signing an MoU between the two open universities, Rahman explained that “Distance learning and technology has become a key tool to educational activities, especially in this period of the pandemic.” As a precursor to the expected MoU, the envoy stated, a webinar meeting could be organised to share ideas. “Such collaboration will be a wonderful beginning. From my side I can approach the university through the relevant ministry.” The envoy also requested the university to host the country's upcoming Golden Jubilee celebration, which also coincides with the 100 years of the birth of Bangladesh's founding father, where a video would be shown to the select guests. Responding, the Vice-Chancellor welcomed them to the headquarters and expressed the university’s readiness to enter into such collaborations and urged him to come up with an official request, which will serve as the starting point of the collaboration. Peters, who said the management will inform the university’s Governing Council of the development since it involves a cross-border issue, reiterated that NOUN is keen to develop the relationship, as similar one is already in existence with the Indira Gandhi National Open University in the neighbouring India. The Vice-Chancellor also acknowledged the number of similarities that exist between the two nations and briefly explained that NOUN has about 500,000 students, with about 120,000 currently active in their various academic programmes, making it the largest in the African Continent. IMPORTANT REMINDER ON PROJECT!!! The deadline for uploading of research project remains today 10th August while Master students defence comes up on 12th August. The student portal, nouonline.net is opened for registration after maintenance exercise. Hopefully, the portal for uploading project might be re-opened for the second time this semester but it is under probability. This is one of the reasons as an expert in NOUN related affairs, I usually advise students to embark on project in 400 level, first semester so as to round up on time. MISHA CARES |
INFORMATION ON RESEARCH PROJECT Please find below the cost of project registration for undergraduates, PGD and masters. 1. Undergraduate - ₦15,000.00 2. Post-Graduate Diploma - ₦25,000.00 3. Masters - ₦40,000.00 Most important, you will register for your project on nouonline.net similar to the way you register other courses after successful funding of your e-wallet. In addition, you will draft three topics, also called "proposed project topics", submit the topics (don't forget to add your details e.g names, matric etc) to your supervisor and one of the three topics would likely be approved or all rejected. Before you submit these topics to your supervisor, the first step is to present it to a faculty officer at your study centre who will assign a supervisor to you. In some cases you would be asked to find your own supervisor from a conventional university with certain specified qualifications but, this is not common in NOUN. Finally, let me remind us that, research project carry 6 credit units. Therefore, it is not an academic activity to joke with. Meanwhile, according to the information reaching us, uploading of finished/completed project is likely to end today 10th August. Don't hesitate to do the needful by contacting us @ MISHA CARES for your research project writing. Contact us through the phone number below: 09051481358 (WhatsApp) Thanks and do send us your questions should you have. MISHA CARES |
