Politics / Re: Goodluck Jonathan: The Facebook President---cnn by samoks(m): 2:08am On Oct 16, 2010
The best way to reach or send his message across to all Nigerians is by providing at least a steady/uninterupted 12hour electricity daily across the country, ensure the security of lives and property, repairing and fixing our roads, reduce unemployment, stop importation of fuel, fix our refineries, pay our secondary and primary school teachers better, lecturers as well, stop the brain drain, make our economy a non-oil depended one, revive our hospitals  and much more, INSTEAD OF MAKING EMPTY PROMISES WE HAVE BEEN HEARING SINCE 1999

If he does the above, instead of spending billions on 01-10-2010,all Nigerians will hear his voice even when he is SILENTLY SLEEPING in his ASO ROCK VILLA or where does he even live?

British colonials spent many years (if not 100yrs) b4 they came to north. British found south without clothes and have no standard way of life. So when colonials came, they faced no rejection frm south and startd teaching them how they want them to write or read. But when they came to north, they found them with their dress styles(for male and female) with even traditonal textile manufacture. They have their system of education (islamic and arabic) right from whats later known as nursery. They have their way of trade both local and int'l.administration:they knw who they are and civilised. So when colonials masters came to them, they repulsed them seriously. It is after years they captured north. While in south, they had been exporting slaves. Unfortunately, south learnd from british long b4 north, but innovated nothing but exam malpractice. You can come to north and find out if north could teach u both Islamic and western. education.

those who are against the president's presence on facebook are blind folded with foolishness. A good leader must have a good way on interacting with  his people. The responses (both positive and negative) that the president is getting from people on facebook is what he needs to perform better and not the having tea party with corrupt politcians who will just sing his praise with no single person criticizing him. Obasanjo did his own by organising the monthly presidential media chat but this facebook strategy of Jonathan is far better because it has more room to accomodate responses from people. The media chat only had room for the press and few number of callers.

How many Nigerians are on facebook?? How many Nigerians have access to the internet? Why using Lagos as a yardstick? Mr President missed it on this one.

blank:

Abeg, is he really the one that updates his status or is it one of his aides?
I remember that while he was giving his declaration speech that the speech was uploaded to facebook.
Since he obviously was not on the internet while giving his speech it must have been one of his aides.

For sure he is not the one posting all those updates,  I am very sure he, like other Politicians are not computer literate.

@slap1,
why do you still believe JOMO GBOMO does not exist. You were told he had an interview with The PUNCH, but you said you do not agree with the interview.

If anyone could have access to that email, then why don't The Tompolos, Boyloafs of this world have access to it? They were just ordinary field commanders of MEND,while JOMO GBOMO is in the administrative helm. So lets stop fooling ourselves that Mr Okah is JOMO GBOMO,what happens when (if eventually) is put in Prison and JOMO GBOMO still speaks out? who will you say he is? Maybe you will call him GJ.

Until we sit down and settle our differencies, this collection of NATIONS called Nigeria will never know PEACE.

Why are we just doing selective JUSTICE, I see many of us here making biased comments,

My pointssssssssss

1.)Whether on Facebook or twitter,he has passed his message. But sadly enough, we have just 1.7million Nigerians on facebook.

And i am sure not all the 1.7m people have access to him.

2.) whether a northerner or Southerner, i do not want any of those old fools again, if Jonathan won't win the elections, then Ribadu should, but for the old fools to come back to rule us again, then i am in support of Break-up of this nation

@dammytosh,

I disagree.
Y didnt d so called leaders disown Jomo Gbomo immediately after the amnesty if he stole their password without their consent?
Y did they not deny involvement in the post amnesty Delta Government house bomb blast of 15/03/2010?
MEND/Jomo Gbomo may be a media created proxy. But threats have been made and executed.
Definitely there is a face behind a masquerade.
Anyone associated with MEND either now or in the past should be properly quizzed for adequate information and not shielded to utter gibberish at tax payers expense.
GEJ has no business defending MEND as he is not a member.
For all I care the declarants at Aso Rock few days ago may be d impostors or former foot soldiers.
We must all stand, pray and vehemently resist the untimely loss of lives due to the Govt's insensitivity and uncouth utterances.

The perpetrators must be fished out and publicly disgraced. Enough of MEND defence and hosting of killers in Amnesty guise.

Tompolo should be quizzed once more, and since he said he is the leader of MEND, let him tell us who was GBOMO JOMO in his days pre-amnesty era

[b]It is troubling times indeed. What people will do to fulfill a prohphecy, remember Campbell's warning, John Campbell? And people who are supposed to be intellectuals(Odein Ajumogobia and co) took his assertions with a pinch of salt. The US have got a dossier of all electronic and voice recordings exchanging back and forth between all the players involved in this charade. And so when they proactively but subtly warn we fail to heed and dismiss it with a wave of hand.
We are at a precipice and even some contributors here can't see the danger of self-annilhilation that brews right before their eyes. Chinua Achebe was right, he said, '' things are falling apart the centre cannot hold'', it is a prophecy that is coming to pass, the regions of Nigeria constitute young Ikemefunna, weak but loved by his tribes men. Okowkwo is being played out by a power loving elite, people who have used tribe & religion to cow their lot into submission. Add a gun runner, whose daily meat and mode of survival has been taking away by a supposed amnesty and you have a cocktail of gunpowder waiting to explode. All the actors with their interest to protect, not bothered if Nigeria survives another harmattan or not, it is indeed troubling times as we have half truths, sometimes outright lies being bandied for our consummtion. I don't have all the answers so I can like many theorize but I choose not to because in my eyes all of the actors contribute to why our house has fallen :

Politicians have to always say something however silly it is.
6-3-3-4 has not failed. The Nigerian system as a whole is what has failed woefully. A resounding F9 in fact.
If you blame 6-3-3-4 for education failure, what do you blame NEPA failure, Nigeria Airawys failure, the gullies in Benin-Lagos and Lagos-Ibadan roads, the rickety Niger Bridge, decaying hospitals and others on??

With so much neglect and corruption, any education model whether 6-3-3-4 or backward 4-3-3-6 will fail.
By the way I know many people who went through that so-called failed system and are doing marvelously well abroad, from South Africa to Europe to America.
Even common private schools that used to be reserved for the less able students with rich enough parents in my time are now doing well and even getting their students into top European and American universities.
uncle Joe, you can do better than this. Don't give past illiterate dictators and their bootlickers the chance to say that even young educated politicians cannot take Nigeria forward.  Don't shame the younger generations.

Tell him more, GEJ has no plans for this nation, all he knows is party and party, spending billions on 1-10 when the whole nation is in darkness, no roads, no good skools etc,

There's nothin in the script that insists we must celebrate/appreciate mediocrity.Whilst not writing them off in totality i daresay the largest room in the world is the room for improvement.

Nollywood makes about 2,400 films per year, putting it ahead of the US, but behind India, according to a Unesco report last year. Nigerian film-makers tend to operate in a fast and furious manner; shoots rarely last longer than two weeks, cheap digital equipment is almost always used and the average budget is about $15,000 (£9,664). The finished products often bypass cinemas altogether and are instead sold directly to the “man on the street” for about $1.50 (£1). Most films shift between 25,000 and 50,000 copies globally – although a blockbuster can easily sell up to 200,000.

Aw c'mon are you sayin we can't do better?

Taiwan was used to be known as the home of substandard products, today they are in another planet from ours, China as well, but most Original Nokia phones today, Laptops and other gadgets are made from China,

I am not saying we should accept below per products, but at least it is a right step in the right direction. This is the only industry from Nigeria that is accepted worldwide, Is there any other industry? please educate me more, The improvements will come, just as it is going on now in the Music industry, we shall get there my brother.
