Some of us feel the women have seen too much and may not be submissive to their husbands.

PoliticsBloody Sunday In Bauchi by samparian(op): 4:06am On Jul 27, 2009
No fewer than 70 members of a fundamentalist Islamic sect, Boko Haram were reported killed in the early hours of Sunday as the group engaged security agents in a bitter battle in Bauchi, capital of Bauchi State.

Already, a dusk-to-dawn curfew has been imposed on the state capital just as 176 suspected members of the radical group have been arrested by the police. 15 persons who sustained varying degrees of injuries in the clash are said to be receiving medical attention in different hospitals in Bauchi.

Bauchi State Police Command has confirmed 39 deaths. Eye-witnesses said, however, that the dead are more than that number.
Awwal Isa, a nurse at the Bauchi Specialist Hospital, told AFP that a total of 42 bodies had been deposited at the hospital.

Trouble started early in the day when members of the group, numbering hundreds, sacked the Dutsen Tanshi Police Station around the Federal Low-cost Housing Estate.
After chasing away the few policemen on duty at the station, the fundamentalists broke into the station and devastated the entire place. Their attempts to break into the armoury were unsuccessful, however.
Armed soldiers and anti-riot policemen were promptly drafted to the place. In the ensuing battle, many members of the sect were killed and wounded.

An unidentified soldier was also killed just as two policemen received gunshot wounds. The base of the group in Bauchi was completely pulled down by the security agents who are also combing the surrounding hills in search of the fundamentalists.

it is gathered that members of the sect have, for many months, been planning a demonstration in Bauchi, but have been rebuffed by the state government. Some government officials were said to have expressed concern that the doctrine of the sect believed to be anti-West could lead to a religious crisis in the state. Some of their teachings are believed to be completely contrary to the teachings of Islam, especially as regards peaceful co-existence with other religions.

Bauchi State Police spokesman, Mohammed Barau, who confirmed the clashes, said more policemen had been drafted into the area to maintain order. He added that more security measures were being taken to ensure that the crisis did not spread beyond the area.

Minister of Police Affairs, Ibrahim Yakubu Lame said the Acting Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Ogbonnaya Onovo, has been ordered to ensure peace and security of lives and property of innocent citizens across the country. In his words, “in-as-much-as the Federal Government is committed to freedom of religion, it will not condone any acts that might lead to the breakdown of law and order in the country.”
The Director of Press Affairs to the Governor, Mohammed Maigari Khanna and other top government functionaries declined to make comments on the development, but promised that as soon as the situation was properly studied, government would make its position public.

The radical sect made its debut in 2004 when it set up a base dubbed Afghanistan in Kanamma village in northern Yobe State, on the border with the Niger Republic, from where it attacked police outposts and killed police officers. Its membership is mainly drawn from university dropouts.
One of the leaders of the group, Aminu Tashen-Ilimi, had told AFP in a 2005 interview that the group’s mission was to lead an armed insurrection in a bid to rid the society of immorality and infidelity.

Jokes EtcBetween God And Eve by samparian(op): 10:58am On Jul 26, 2009
One day in the Garden of Eden, Eve called out to God to come down to talk to her.

"What's the problem, Eve?" "Well, I know you created me and provided this beautiful garden and all of these wonderful animals and that hilarious snake, but I'm just not happy."

"Why is that, Eve?" came the reply from above.

"I am lonely," said Eve, "and I'm sick to death of apples."

"Well, Eve, in that case, I have a solution. I shall create a man for you." "What's a man, God?"

"This man will be a flawed creature, with many bad traits. He'll lie, cheat, and be vainglorious; all in all, he'll generally give you a hard time. But, he'll be bigger and faster, and can help protect you, and will like to hunt and kill things to eat. He will look silly when he's aroused, but since you've been complaining, I'll create him in such a way that he will satisfy your physical needs. He will be witless and will revel in childish things like fighting and kicking a ball about. He won't be too smart, so he'll also need your advice sometimes to think properly."

"Sounds great." said Eve. She raised an eyebrow ironically. "What's the catch?"

"Well, you can have him on one condition."

"What's that, God?"

"As I said, he'll be proud, arrogant, and self-admiring, So you'll have to let him believe that I made him first. Just remember, it's our little secret,
You know, woman to woman."

PoliticsRe: Nigerians: Very Stupid People! by samparian(m): 10:31am On Jul 26, 2009
Nigerians are not stupid, we're tribalistic.

Nigeria thrives on tribalism and religious segmentation. We only believe in our tribes and not country.

Tribalism killed the 1st Republic and drove Nigeria into civil war. Till today we still suffer from tribalism. Many us will not even lift a finger to help Nigeria but will be willing to fight and die for our tribes or religion
Once a member of any tribe is in office, the tribe doesnt question his credibility and qualification. They are contented to be in power even if they dont get any benefits from that tenure.
Until we root out tribalism in Nigeria, i honestly dont think we'll go forward as a nation. Every tribe is suspicious of the other.

mikeansy:
as a nigerian i think at this stage what we should be exploring is the legality of these defections. do we vote for political parties? or do we vote for individuals?

while the defection of atiku from pdp to ac and yet remained as vp suggest that we probably vote for individuals, the pronouncement that amaechi could become governor without standing for general elections himself suggest we vote for parties. remember our apex court had a say in both cases.
so it is either ohakim and and the bauchi governor are illegitimate governors having defected or amaechi is the illegitimate governor having inherited a party victory without standing elections himself.

The fact that these two extremes can co-exist simulataneously says a lot about our supreme court.
you have made very nice points.

FamilyRe: Plan Of Gettin Married My Problem by samparian(m): 4:27am On Jul 26, 2009
People need to make sacrifices in life.

two people are dependant on you for their education. they are your responsibility.
You'll just have to plan yourself very well before you get into trouble.
Once you get married, a baby will be next. you'll now have double responsibilty. i had a similar problem. i had to put off marriage till i sorted out things with my siblings.
They're all graduates now. i knew i couldnt handle it all if i got married then.

i'm not asking you to put off marriage.
Just plan yourself and also explain to your girl the situation of things. who knows, you guys could plan things very well to benefit all involved.
FamilyIs Marital Infidelity Genetic? by samparian(op): 4:15am On Jul 26, 2009
I have a friend who is in love with a girl. they've dated for like 4 years plus and my friend wants to marry the girl but there's a problem.
my friend's parents are totally against it and their reason is this.

The girls eldest sister is known to be cheating on her husband
the immediate elder sister of the girl also cheats on her husband

so my friend's parents automatically assume that the girl will cheat on their son. They believe infidelity runs in the family
That is their only reason
my friend is seriously confused and kept me from sleeping with his complains. i dont know what to tell him.
what do you think?

we dont need their visits. its only our politicians that are looking for attention and relevance. they have forgotten why they hold their poltical offices.

We need security, peace, basic amenities and NOT state visits which will give some people more reasons to steal money in the name of hosting someone.

Politics1960: Were We Ready For Independence? by samparian(op): 3:44am On Jul 26, 2009
Some people may want to chew my head off but i kept wondering about this and decided to ask Nairalanders.
Nigeria became an independent nation in 1960 and began having ethnic problems almost immediately. Just 6 years into its nationhood, those in power refused to let go and cross carpeting began which led to the civil unrest and then coup de tat and murder of prominient Nigerians including the prime minister, a Northerner.

That fueled the tribalistic sentiments.
The rest is all history we know and recall with nausea.
Take a look at this.

Alhaji Tafawa Balewa- Prime minister (1st Nigerian leader) Murdered

General Aguiyi Ironsi- Head of state  (2nd Nigerian leader and 1st military head of state) Murdered

General Yakubu Gowon- Head of state(3rd leader) Over thrown

General Murtala Mohammed- Head of state(4th leader) Assassinated

General Obasanjo- Head of state (5th leader) handed over to Shagari

Alhaji Shehu Shagari - President (6th Leader) over thrown

General Mohammadu Buhari -Head of state (7th Leader) Over thrown

General Ibrahim Babangida-head of state (8th leader) annulled June 12 and stepped Aside

Chief Ernest Shonekon - Head of interim government (9th leader) over thrown

General Sani Abacha- Head of state (10th leader) died under questionable circumstances

General Abdulsalam Abubakar- (11th leader) handed over to Obansanjo in a flawed election

Chief Obasanjo- (12th leader) handed over to Yar'adua in a seriously flawed election

My questions are these:were we ready for indepence?  was Nigeria doomed to fail from the start?
are we more of tribes forced together in this unholy alliance?

Kobojunkie:
Maybe this is because majority of them have seen their fathers, mothers and relatives work ridiculously hard as slaves to those in government, yet barely ever being able to make ends meet. Do you really blame them for wanting to get out to a place where the story is the government’s foot is not on the success of its people?
You might laugh now but it is the truth. I grew up during the times when we had next to decent millionaires in that country, and there were few of them. Once corruption became the new trend, millionaires started popping up all over the place, many we still have no clue what they actually do for a living. I remember some of my own classmates became millionaires and big boys in town. A particular one who failed at most everything in school became the first millionaire my class could boast of. When asked what he does, no one seems to have a clue.
average people dont just become millionaires over night. It takes maybe a year or so depending on what you do.

Already established businessmen/enterprenuers can make a million or more a month. it all depends on your capital and your line of venture.

Kobojunkie:
I am not sure it is the case that we do agree here. What I meant to say is that the average Nigerian abroad feels he is a guaranteed millionaire if he ever decides to go back to Nigeria. Not because he has new skills or new ideas to bring to the table on how to fix Nigeria but that the fact that he has been abroad, not only boosts his resume but also ensures he gets preferential treatment when it comes to getting a job or a leadership position in that country.
If you don’t believe it, take a look at your politicians and you will see that quite a number of them lived abroad for some time, then came back to start work in leadership with access to loot, with not much hard work done. If you investigate the resumes of these people, you would see that many of them had next to no solid experiences in any field while abroad.
Thats true.(for those connected)

Kobojunkie:
I have rarely met any Nigerian who thinks as you claim above. People survive even in somalia.
The survival i meant is becoming a millionaire. many of our young guys think they cant make it unless they travel and become illegal immigrants in other countries doing menial jobs and taking unnecessary risks. this is fueled by mis information by dubious travel agents

Kobojunkie:
I disagree. It remains that out of every 100 millionaires we have, the vast majority made their money through dubious means. That is what the other guy is trying to make you see. And For anyone to make a million in just 7 months in a country like Nigeria, that person would need to submit to EFCC for us to believe he did so honestly. And I stand with him on that. I know of more people who moved back to Nigeria and have had to compromise on their standards in order that they can make money there. I am sure in their own eyes, they are successful, but how many of them can submit to be investigated by the EFCC or NIRS and found to be honest?
i laughed real hard. well it all depends on the persons capital.

Kobojunkie:
From where I sit, Nigeria is the gold mine for all Nigerians abroad. In fact, as soon as people start feeling they can no longer handle the hardife of 9-5 abroad, most move to Nigeria and become millionaires overnight there. Not sure who you claim tells people abroad that Nigeria has nothing to offer. I can make you a list of people from my church here who have moved back, become millionaires just like that and only come back to shop these days.
i'm glad you and i agree on this one
