PoliticsRe: Reps Kill Motion To Immortalise M. K. O. Abiola by samparian(m): 3:30pm On Jul 22, 2009
The point still remains that Nigeria will always remember the date June 12, the date synonimous with MKO Abiola.

it will be taught in schools. Our children will learn of the man who won the freest election held in Nigeria.

The events of June 12 1993 are already in our history books and we dont need politicians looking for more avenues to steal money in the name of immortalising MKO Abiola.

Some of us will remember him as the SDP candidate who would have been a President but died in jail.

others will choose to remember him from the ITT saga which Fela has immortalised.

different strokes for different folks grin

PoliticsRe: My Little Bet - For Every £1 I Make My Friend In Niaja Makes N245 by samparian(m): 6:17am On Jul 22, 2009
Kobojunkie:
From experience, I would advice folks take these stories with a pinch of salt. A friend, after hearing so much of how "people" make in oil, invested his savings in the same business. He is still loosing money as we speak, and is back in the UK looking for a job to help handle his bills.
He didnt conduct a proper research before investing. Must he invest in crude oilhuh
why not export or trade in Groundnut oil, palm oil? There are people in that industry that are doing okay.

tos:
Do you henestly believe that your friend made that kind of money with just £2k doing a legitimate business in Nigeria in 8 months?

The kind of business you described in your post cannot generate that kind of return within the period stated by you. I would have believed your story if a more substantial capital in the region of £8k had been invested.

I'm not trying to debunk you claim but in the Nigerian situation that i'm very much familiar with, your friend did not tell you the full story.
500k plus is a huge capital depending on the business you're investing in.
wholesale of provisions, cosmetics, wristwatches, gift items, boutiques etc will do very well with that amount of capital, once you get your shop in a nice location.

that same amount can get you distributorship in various companies.

I've been into Legitimate business for over 12 years and i know what i'm talking about.

FamilyRe: Can You Marry Someone From A Broken Home? by samparian(m): 5:20am On Jul 22, 2009
mide2:
What happened to anyone does not define who they are, what defines who we are, is how well we rise after falling. Having a blissful marriage goes beyond, what family we were both raised from, it's more about who we choose to be.
Broken homes are results of marrying for wrong reasons.
1. My mates are getting married so i must
2. he's rich and drives a big a$$ed jeep
3. his/her family is responsible/ rich
etc
list is endless, many cosmetic reasons for marriage.
FamilyRe: I Want Her To Be My Wife But My Dad Says We're Not Compatible by samparian(m): 5:09am On Jul 22, 2009
only rich parents tend to dictate who their children will marry. grin

If you're truely ready for marriage, talk to your dad and tell him how much you love the girl and ask him to give you reasons why he's against it.

You're a man, and about the make the Biggest Commitment you'll ever make in your life. Respectfully Demand an explanation from your dad.

You need to know why.
FamilyRe: Would You Prefer A Nigerian Lady For Marriage? by samparian(m): 5:02am On Jul 22, 2009
For personal and cultural reasons, i'd go for an Igbo girl, anytime, any day.

Generally, It all depends on choice and individual character. every country, tribe, race and creed has its fair share of the Good, bad and ugly.
FamilyRe: Your 45 Year Old Friend Is Sleeping with Your 25 Year Old Son. Whose Side Will U Be? by samparian(m): 4:53am On Jul 22, 2009
@nwa-uwa

this sort of stuff happens constantly in naija. People only speak of the ones they know of.
our young boys are busy looking for sugar mummies( check nairalist, skype, and other websites)
our young girls arent different and easily get the sugar daddies they seek.

@poster, if the 45year old lady wasnt your friend, would it make any difference?

What would you do if your son was shagging the wife of a minister who spoils him with money and everything he wants??

I know a 26year old Nigerian boy who lives in Bludenz, Austria and lives with his 67year old wealthy lover. The boy sends money and cars home to his parents and they are all smiles that their son is doing well abroad grin
PoliticsRe: Nigerians Again by samparian(m): 4:40am On Jul 22, 2009
Nigerians are not the only ones guilty of such offences.

Every nationality is guilty of such.
Go to Naija and see Lebanese, Liberians, Sudanese, Chadians etc marrying Nigerians to be citizens

But the amount is too much, just to live abroad. Many Nigerian enterprenuers dont own that much and they are doing okay. grin
PoliticsRe: Fg Suspends $8b Rail Contract With Chinese Firm by samparian(m): 4:28am On Jul 22, 2009
Redman44:
The Railways project should be handed to the Canadians. The chinese and Indian guys will not provide the kind of modern infrastructure we need. Canada is a country with an advanced rail system and the Canadian government is good at partnering with developing nations to upgrade their infrastructure. I don't understand why our leaders always love to collaborate with Asian nations who dont really add value to our infrastructure. Lets call in the Canadians cool cool
They collaborate with the Asians because they are reliant and cheaper than over priced European companies in Nigeria who ran out of favour when IBB left office.

Please visit Hong Kong, China, Japan, India and see their rail networks. They are great. The subway/ trains is the best means of transport in these countries. Fast, neat and efficient.

The reason they've not done anything yet in Nigeria is because of corruption and lack of electricity.

Please, also visit Ghana and see how well the Chinese have progressed with work on Ghana rails.
Any Ghanaian here can attest to that.
PoliticsRe: Dangote Going Broke? by samparian(m): 4:16am On Jul 22, 2009
Dangote has been in bed with every government in Nigeria since the late 80's.

his wealth is a result of favourable government concessions to him.
The bann of specified products and issuing of import licence to Dangote gave him all the monopoly he needed.

He monopolized cement, flour, sugar which are some of the most essential commodities to people.

Give any fool the monopoly of just Flour for ONE YEAR and see if he wont make money.

Dangote is a brand and once the current government does not give him the usaul benefits he enjoyed in the past, his company MUST suffer because there will be severe competition.
Why do you think he threatened Fire and Brimstone when Yar'adua issued new cement import licences to 5 new firms.

For a Billionare like Dangote, falling to just being a millionaire is as good as being broke.

PoliticsRe: Letter To President Yar'adua by samparian(m): 3:04am On Jul 21, 2009
This is the body of your letter.

his address is ASO ROCK, ABUJA grin VERY EASY TO FIND.

Dear mr. yar’dua
I’m a citizen of Nigeria but I live in the united states of America. I guess I left my country because of the same reasons that many of our citizens have also deserted their homeland which is to seek opportunities that were not affordable to me in my beautiful homeland. I am writing you today just to see if I can get answers. I have gather and discuss, scrathed my head, and even googled for answers yet I still remain ignorant to the reason or reasons why my country is in a state of despair. I would like to know why with all of our natural resources (Oil and natural gas, tin, columbite, iron ore, coal, limestone, lead, zinc), and all of our agricultural products (cocoa, palm oil, yams, cassava, sorghum, millet, corn, rice, livestock, groundnuts, cotton), 70% of the country continue to live under the poverty line. I want to know the real reason why a country so rich in oil (12th largest in production of crude oil) cannot have constant electricity. Nigeria has never had constant electricity, at least not in my lifetime, I can only imagine how much profit have been gained by those who are in control of the supply of generators and the diesel that we buy to power them. I can also only imagine how much money these companies, persons or entities have contribute to the bank account of those that are in the forefront of the war against a better Nigeria. My president we can no longer call ourselves the giant of Africa because we have not made any accomplishments to this claim. We cannot provide our citizens with a national highway, clean water, food, jobs and even the basic of all necessities which is electricity. It is our right to have electricity; it’s definitely not a privilege. Now sir please keep in mind that I’m not asking you to do anything about it because I realize that you are just a pawn in an even bigger corruption that is currently hurting and killing our people. All I’m asking you for is answers. I refuse to believe that we cannot sustain electricity in Nigeria simply because of the greed of a few men that wish to profit of the sale of diesel oil. I refuse to believe that over the past 30 or so years these ravenous policy makers have not attain enough wealth to satisfy their irrepressible appetite. We ( I mean the youth and the people that really care about the betterment of our country) need to know the reason or reasons for the problems in our beloved motherland. They say before you can find a solution we need to fully understand our problem. Thank you sir for taking time to read this letter and I hope to hear from you soon…ps this is just part 1.

Okereke-Onyiuke: No Investor Lost Money
•Says NSE second in return on investment

Director-General of the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE), Prof. Ndi Okereke-Onyiuke, has stated that investors in the Nigerian capital market did not lose money in the face of the crash experienced in the last one year.
while they had benefited by way of dividend and bonus shares they had received over the years prior to the burst.
“Distinguished ladies and gentlemen, many of our investors that suffered losses only lost in terms of value,” she told the delegates. “Their holdings are still intact. It must be stated that even those who lost had earlier made huge profits in form of capital appreciation, dividend and bonuses.”
when your asset losses value, you have lost money. That is simple economics. Let me reserve my insults for another day.

Bro, everybody needs to pay tax. It will be 5% on all consumer products (food, clothes, shoes, e.t.c.) and 8% of luxury (like cars, houses e.t.c.).
This helps government to collect money back from greedy Nigerians who hoard money and never pay nothing back to society.
who told you we dont pay taxes? i pay mine. That a man is successful doesnt make him greedy.
You should be more concerned on what the government does with our oil funds.
Nigeria losses 20% of its daily oil income to bunkering.
Our government officials steal through over priced contracts, travel expences and other means (25million for toilets!!!)
Ok, Yar'adull is dashing money out to militants. He has placed them on monthly salaries indefinitely while our graduates roam about doing nothing. Now he wants to increase tuition fees. That man MUST be high on drugs.
