@ezeagu havent you heard of "dredging of river niger?" @ kobojunkie i mentioned the issue of speaking Hausa cos i can do that and i'm speaking from personal experiences. I'm NOT trying to fuel any ethnic sentiments. We all know that the major problem of this country is corruption and tribalism. I once met an okada man in Lagos and i immediately identified him as a Northerner and i greeted him in Hausa. He was surprised and asked where i was going. i told him and the man gave me a 50% discount on the fare just because i spoke his language. this has happened to me on several occassions in Lagos. I've had other experiences in government establishments but cant disclose them right now. |
@ninetofive I'm glad you corrected me. its true that what we term insufficient may be termed sufficient by other people. The Igbos who have lived in the North for so long emulate the lifestyle of the average Northerners and when we associate with our brothers in the south/east, they say we're living," Ndu ba kwo mi" that is life of no worries. The average northerner is contented with what he has and believes that Allah is the giver of wealth and everything. He lives a life of no worries unlike majority of us in the south who are burdened by our societal status and the need to meet up. we're burdened with the urge to build and own properties in our villages and various commercial cities, the urge to be among the "Mai kudi" "big men" and so we strive to make ends meet. Nigeria is a nation were a qualified candidate doesnt always get the job he deserves. a connected candidate gets jobs and contracts. This is not limited to the North alone. But it helps to be a Northerner or to speak Hausa. I'm sure of what i'm saying cos there have been occassions when just being able to speak Hausa helped me out. |
job/contracts. dont forget i included contracts. i'd love to continue this nice civilized arguement with you guys but a friend just invited me over for some evening razz ma tazz and i've got to shower and head out. It's been nice talking to you guys kobojunkie and tsiya. you guys are cool. i'm glad there was no name calling and all. cheers |
Kobojunkie remember i've lived there for a long time, attended primary school and university there |
wao Tsiya chill. why is everything suddenly being beclouded by ethnic hatred bla bla bla |
Tsiya:good, those who get educated get the jobs. you see. Thats the way it is for Bornu indigenes @tsiya not all igbos will sell their brothers for profit. |
Tsiya abeg wetin i do you? from printing fake notes to selling body parts i wonder what next you'll accuse me of. killing Murtala Mohammed? ![]() |
Tsiya:ROFLMAO why i go donate blood give you ? when i can pay for it ![]() |
Tsiya:who told you that we hate the North? Most Nigerians are just pissed of at the state of things in the country and are angry with our past leaders who majority of them are Northerners I've lived 70% of my life in the North and i know they are peace loving people unless when extremists start this their sharia bullsh*t. Many southerners are still investing in the North. I've got properties there and my company is currently building a multi million naira factory there. Tsiya:i never said that poor people are not there. Every country in the world has homeless people and beggers. Nigeria is not different. what i meant is that those in the North who are oportuned to be educated have a better advantage of gaining employment in a government parastatal than their sourthern counterparts. why do you think, the Federal govt tells you to apply from your state when you want some jobs, eg; Customs, SSS |
Yar'adull made that statement because of the recent deals he signed with russia. he wants to remain in the good books of Russia. UMumu Yar'adull, wey Nigerians no even recognise again |
Mba o. the car dikwa rugged. |
NINETOFIVE:Pure and simple. You are 100% correct. |
@ nuzo you've got some points there |
my dear, you and i share the same views on violence. we dont support it. But thats the way things are. examples The tamil tigers Biafra Massob Mend al qaeda USA etc each claim to fight or have fought for something but each side has those calling them freedom fighters and other branding them terrorists Iraqis and iranians see America and the west as terrorist, America and the West call Qadarfi, Saddam Hussien, Osama bin laden terrorists but their people call them Freedom fighters. go figure |
when was the last time you visited Nigeria, and the North? How many of the northerners in Kano are graduates? I've been to Kano and i see them all, but i dont live there. Bornu state is my turf, though its a kanuri state, all sourtherners call them Hausas |
@kobojunkie one man's freedom fighter is another man's terrorist. |
TOYOSI20:thats where electricity comes in. Without electricity, SMEs will not thrive and no new jobs will be created |
@kobojunkie have you lived in any part of Northern nigeria? For security reasons, i'd would have posted my pictures with top government officials. I schooled in the North and believe me, i got my first political contact in school. All the guys i knew in school either have jobs with various government parastatals or are contractors or are just living off the stolen loot of their parents |
it all depends on individual parents. in my days as a child, we always had breakfast with our dad. my parents had this routine of dad drops us off and school and mum picks us up. when we came back from school dad would be at home on lunch break and on weekends he always took the whole family to a club, zoo or cinema. Both my parents were actively involved in my childhood. |
Thats totally wrong and unhealthy. |
At 25 i was already a graduate and living alone and yes, i've dated older single women. If your friend is a widow or divorced/single, then your son hasnt commited any grievious offence. But if your friend is married, then that is totally wrong. My current girlfriend is 45 and a single mum of 3 (though i dont live in naija) her kids know we're dating and are okay with it. and like you asked, a 45 year old man sleeping with a 25 year old girl is totally different. My advice to you is not to confront your son. just talk to your friend and tell her how you feel about it. you two will sort it out as mature women. Dont barge in and assualt/quarrell with her. do that and you're in trouble, cos your son may turn against you. |
@poster i hope you aint refering to weddings. wedding and marriage are two different things o, but they both have one thing in common. The couples can get who they want involved. simple |
The church always tries to get involved, depending on how close you are with your pastor/priest. The truth is that, no matter what what people think, marriage is always a family affair, but its up to the couples to know the level of involment they want from the respective families. |
Kobojunkie:on the contrary, i lived there for 20 years, i still have properties and investments there. I know people in Government on both state and local level, so i know what i'm telling you |
Thats always the problem we have in Nigeria. I just hope it doesnt |
Kobojunkie:very few Hausas have time for the internet. Besides, they dont need to complain about anything. The North has the best road networks in Nigeria, there's little or no police harrasment and brutality over there and they're guaranteed jobs/contracts on graduation. |
I have a question for y'all if Igbos, Hausas, Yorubas, Ijaws ruled themselves as individual nations, do you think there'd be wide spread corruption and neglect of the masses? |
I've travelled far and wide and noticed that what makes other nations thrive most are not the size of their army, or the eloquence and charisma of their politicians and leaders, but the prosperity of their people. A nation prospers when its citizenry prosper. That prosperity only comes when the Government provides Electricity and security. Other amenities are very important but Electricity and security bring development. Ghana is prospering today because its leaders have provided Electricity and security and our banks are racing to ghana and opening branches(creating employment for Ghanaians) Foriegn investors are fleeing Nigeria and relocating to Togo, Benin, and Ghana, just because of lack of electricity and insecurity in Nigeria. Many Ghanaians have returned home and established industries, big Hotels and tourist attractions. Many Nigerians in diaspora want to return home and build industries(create jobs & build our economy) but will not. because the cost of operation will be too high and there is no security for investments and staff. In the 80's Nigeria donated money to China, but look at China today. They turned their disadvantage into advantage by making sure electricity is constant and now, they are the fastest growing economy in the world. same goes for India. European and american companies all have factories in China and India. All we need for Nigeria to take a GIANT STEP FORWARD is constant electricity supply and security of lifes and property. what do you think? |
Yes. once its a democracy and the government puts the basic infrastructures in place. Especially electricity and security which are the basic ingredients fro industralisation |
Bad news always sells tabloids ![]() thats what our lecturer told us in those days. And that is why terror is on the rise. Terrorists(freedom fighters)get so much attention from the press |
fayahsoul:Dude, arent you Nigerian?? You're living within the "cursed" land, part of the "cursed" folks ![]() |
I never said the attacks/voilence is right or justified. i'm just annoyed that some fools are trying to make it a tribal affair instead of calling it what it is. read this. http://www.sunnewsonline.com/webpages/news/national/2009/july/18/national-18-07-2009-02.htm |
