I wanna stock my earthen pond with 3000 juvenile in 2weeks time which I intend to sell @ melange stage coz I don't av much money for feeding. I av some questions and I'll appreciate d answers from all ♍ɏ ogas.
* how do I sort dem to reduce cannibalism and also makes dem eat equally

* Do I start giving them Vita feed from day one as suggested by Robonski

* what iƨ̣̇ the effect of not covering the pond to reduce direct sun light

* Is it necessary for me to change the water b4 harvest

* My consultant advice me to direct the outlet of ♍ɏ concrete pond to the earthen pond, hope its a good idea.

ceah: To reduce the bad odor in your poultry to less than 10 percent you need a bio disc to energize your water. It will also help to reduce vaccination to the bear-est minimum. For more information about the Biodisc you can visit this thread:

excelsiorfarm: i will write what u need, u confirm present unit price & u can easily get yr costing, but u cannot need more than 75k to get them to point of lay(i mean 18weeks) ,8.5 chick mash to 8wks,13.5 growers mash frm 8-18 wks, if u formulate feeds,it will be cheaper, do not miss d vaccines if indeed u want them to lay & d laying to reach peak & substain them to be laying for at least a year & half.d vaccines timetables is written on boards of poultry drug stores mostly. U can keep 10K As miscellanous,most people sell are 16wks point of lay,feed them well,they attain maturity better

Maybe i should start wit 25 birds 1st (later dis year), then after 6months add to it. I want to stock what is financially manageable. I wonder how many crates of eggs they can oftenly fetch me weekly?

excelsiorfarm: i will recommend livestovit, it is in d biz of layers i learnt it,it is specifically for birds to fight stress, build immunity,assist to increase egg size a bit for laying birds etc, i then experimented it with fishes more than 7 years ago & came to d conclusion after using other drugs eg superliv etc, that most drugs in poultry can be used effectively for fish farming, livestovit is good.

lagbaja: What you stand to gain in terms of yield and efficency (cost savings) far outweigh what it will cost you to run a continous recirculatory system. The evidences are there and are undisputable. Take a tour of durante and u will quit your line of argument. Asian aquaculture system relies heavily on water recirculation because it reduces labour costs. A good recirculatory system is capable of supporting 300kg of fish per 1000litres. the capacity of my Resun pump is 13000 litres which translates to about 3900 of 1kg fishes after about 4 months. The system helps to maintain lower feed conversion ratio. M the fishes grows faster, Mortality is also reduced drastically. You also reduce labour costs.

Moreover, it may not cost up to N15k when complemented with PHCN.for small farms,u can run the system for few hours if you have a water reservoir. The water reservoir will serves the system when you shut the power down to save costs.

what about powering it with inverter, complimenting generator? But u dint add cost of maintaining gen in ur initial calculatn, might develop fault, due to runin it often.

You can't, but can break it by the side to make a hole, on d top of basement(on d pond floor level). Pass a pipe through(to take water out) n seal it back wit cement, d pipe wil hav a tap(to release n lock water). Dats how i pass out water from my tampoulin pond. D water can be chanelled to wet plantd crops.

I perfectly understand your question. That's what you need to do. You need to drain the water, treat them with salt. That is a kind of prevention and prevention they say is better than cure. Or r u doubting the power of salt ? Please don't because the role of salt cannot be under emphasied in catfish farming.

Catfish farmers and/or intending or aspiring farmers, for the record sake, please do not change feed from one product to another product. It is a very wrong move. It is as if u r giving ur baby NAN 1 and u now change to SMA gold or Peak 123. What do u think will happen to ur baby? If u want to use ziegler, use ziegler. If it is coppens, use coppens. If it is multifeed use it. Do not deviate from one to another. It is wrong and it can lead to a disease outbreak.

ab1x: Hello house, something just came to my mind which I think I must share since one of us said he made losses. I'll employ everyone of us to try and get scale even if it is 50KG, it does not cost more than N5500.00.


If you are a fish farmer and u don't have a scale then you have not started yet because you are just working for the fish buyer. I tell you 99.5% of fish buyer uses fake scale. They are so cunny and there is no way u will know that their scale is not correct unless you use your scale.


Just my two cents.
