Thank you, sir. My department doesn't typically award As, let alone first-class honors. Since this university's establishment, departments like English, Linguistics, and Political Science have never graduated students with first-class honors, not because there aren't deserving students, but because the department tends to be stingy with high grades. My brother, who merited a first-class degree in Political Science, graduated with a 4.44/5. I deserve a first-class degree, but I know it's impossible (based on departmental trends, not pessimism). Currently, my CGPA is 4.78/5, but I'm uncertain about getting a first-class degree.

Regarding publishing articles, I'm working on a paper about sentence patterns (SV, SVO, SVC, SVOA, etc.), and my next paper will focus on sentence structure using Noam Chomsky's tree diagram. You can still publish now, and it's not too late. In my department, publishjng a paper costs 30k. If focusing on literature and publishing a book is too expensive, you can publish a paper analyzing central themes or characters in a particular book(novel, novella, short story, play or poetry) and link it to a writing career in your SOP. Publishing is still an option, even for non-students and non-lecturers. I mean you can still publish even though you're not a student.

Don't fret; most English departments in US universities don't require a first-class degree, publications, or test scores(not required). In fact, your writing sample is just as important as your CGPA – these two are the most crucial aspects of your application. If you're focusing on Literature, an MFA (3 years) might be your best bet, and you'll need to submit a writing sample (prose fiction or poetry). For a PhD, the focus is often on language, and you'll need to submit a scholarly critical writing sample (an unpublished paper). If writing proves challenging, I'd be happy to help. Lmaoooo, calm down bro. That information is not true. My I20 carries a fully funded phd scholarship with zero deficit, as exact as my cost of attendance. No addition, no subtraction. I wrote a GRE though, and I scored very very high. So just do your best. Regarding that guy who told you to write a GRE................

Again everyone seeing this thread. Please be inspired!. In case you have very good grades, you do not need an MS degree to apply for PhD in the USA. You can get admitted for PhD straight from your BSc, provided that you can prove to the admission committee why they should trust you with their Assistantship. Do not let this "Abule Egba US consular" misinform you.
Go to the universities website to find all the information that you need.

There are several factors that a visa officer is looking out for.
1. Are you a genuine student who is going to the US to school and not for any other purpose the visa doesn't serve?
2. When such questions as "What do you intend to do after studies" is pretty much your home tie. US embassy in so many occasion do not even ask you for a single document. Here they are expecting you to state what you'll do after studies. Response like this would take away your immigrant intent "I intend to return to Nigeria and do x and x or I intend to Nigeria to continue with my present company on x and x capacity."
3. Remember that F-1 is a non-immigrant visa and the Visa Officer is there to look out if you are going to abide by your visa class, meaning they expect that after your studies you have plans of leaving the US or returning to Nigeria.
4. Visa interview on a good day do not even last more than 3-5 mins. I can tell mine didn't last more than 3 mins as only 3 questions was asked, now what time does the visa officer start accessing if you have billions saved, landed property, businesses etc.
5. The visa officers are addressing and adjudicating based on their discretion.

I don't have much time at the moment, but I'll be devoting 30 mins every weekend to shed more lights on interview questions.

Unfortunately, I don't have a a script for appealing for application waiver. But I believe such exists on the internet. Don't be worried, just state the papers are "in review" on your CV. Attach your transcripts and the professor assess your profile. The main thing is getting the PI's assent/approval.
