Politics / African Millennials' Journey Into Tech And The Challenges by samuelthaking(m): 2:51am On Oct 20, 2022
This is the information age, information enhanced by technological advancements day by day,From silicon valley to a laptop on a stool in Calcutta, information flows around and abound.
Millennials all over the world, since their arrival have always had to disrupt the norms, relating this to work especially, they are not content with the earlier revered professions e.g Engineering, Accounting. They simply want more, with technology at it's current tide, they have every reason not to.
Jobs abound on the internet, freelancing, affiliate marketing etc, these millennials are content with these jobs because it allows them to multitask and more ample time to themselves. you could start coding after taking a 2 hours course on your preferred language, even shorter courses,a 5 minutes read to get started on cryptocurrency. Seems all well and easy, it is, for the Europeans and American millennials, seems an all easy task but for their African counterparts, things get a little tougher.
African millennials, also enthusiastic about technology, but beset by a lot of challenges, the first one being getting their first device, their parents are not as luxurious with freedom as their counterparts in other parts of the world.
The norm of schooling is embedded in Africans, "go to school , get a degree or more, get a job," that is the true definition of success to their parents.
These millennials seeing their peers around making advancements in the "tech world" set their hearts to the same. When they eventually get a chance to start their learning journey to tech, here are the problems they face
1 Exorbitant data charges- network providers in Africa charge exorbitant prices for data services, since there is no wifi service capable of measuring up to their range of network coverage
2 unavailability of courses - some courses are restricted to Europe and America, and would be of no use to a teenager trying to learn
3 Expensive mentors, courses and trainers-
4 There are also fewer opportunities for African millennials because most companies only hire people from Western countries, which puts them at a disadvantage from the start.

To make daily 2ks , go for the nft and product design, but if you in it for the long run, and ready to devote time and resources, go for Blockchain. Heard of a 16 year old Nigerian that started his own company after freelancing for a while as a Blockchain developer
