- Militant groups in the Niger Delta have reacted to the xenophobic attacks in South Africa
- The groups have asked 18 South African companies and personnel to leave the region or risk attacks
- They decried the attacks on Nigerians in South Africa
Militant groups in the Niger Delta have asked 18 South African companies and personnel to leave the region or risk attacks, The Guardian reports.
The threat was contained in a joint petition to the South African High Commission in Nigeria and signed by General John Duku of the Niger Delta Watchdogs, General Ekpo Ekpo of Niger Delta Volunteers and General Hart Bradford of the Niger Delta Strike Force.
They warned of an imminent attack on all South Africans business interests, adding that they could no longer sit and watch innocent Nigerians being killed in the southern Africa nation.
The militants’ position was made known after their meeting in Port Harcourt on Wednesday, March 1.
They condemned the recent attack on Nigerians and pledged reprisals that would target the country’s economic interests in Nigeria.
Part of the petition read: “Our attention has been drawn to the series of unprovoked attack, looting, shutting down of business offices, killing and maiming of Nigerian nationals living in South Africa.”
“It is so regrettable that a country and nationals that had enjoyed the greatest affection of Nigerians was now repaying such hospitality with mindless killing and brutality.”
To this end, the militants urged the Nigerian government to shut all the business premises owned by South Africans such as MTN, Multi-choice, Shoprite, Eskom Nigeria, South African Breweries (SAB Miller) and others.
“Failure to do this within one month, we shall commence attack on the firms,” they added.
The militants maintained that the South African government and her citizens have a number of businesses in Nigeria, going about their normal businesses peacefully, making huge profits and living in a very friendly environment with Nigerians.
Meanwhile, the Nigerian Senate has released the names of a 7-man delegation to South Africa to investigate the ongoing xenophobic attacks in the country.
Below is the list of the members of the delegation:
1. Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ike Ekweremadu
2. Leader of the Senate, Senator Ahmad Lawan
3. The Chief Whip, Senator Sola Adeyeye
4. Deputy Chairman, Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs, Senator Shehu Sani
5. Senator Stella Oduah,

the confirmation of cjn Onnoghen .new fx policy etc are things buhari shud have done. but decided to allow hardship kill the economy
the fact that buhari has led Nigeria into a recession twice is not a coincidence. its incompetence Very true! Buhari was and is dull on economic issues. However, I believe he is not on security matters for certain reasons. As a matter of fact, the latter is his strength. And if we are to judge with the Herdsmen's actions and the silence of the Presidency, then permit me to become a conspiracy theorist by stating that it is a grand plot of the Northern forces to muzzle out other regions, with the help of the Presidency. It is strange that not a single Herdsman has been caught and apprehended by the FG yet they are quick to show solidarity towards countries that are nursing tragic events. Take the Paris shootings for example. If the President doesn't come back, I honestly don't care. Mine is that IF he is to return at all, it would be to resign and not become a lettuce on that seat. Osinbajo is enough for now. |

That the international community has come to observe a lot in the Presidency is an indication that we are moving in the right direction, though gradually.
Some might say Osinbajo's actions are ordered by the President, which I'm almost forced to believe. But if so, how come these changes have never been noticed while the President was around?
Off all thing, I pray that Osinbajo would have garnered more support from every side, such that the cabals behind the President would be pushed into a corner.
I sincerely hope Osinbajo summons the strength to wade into the Fulani Herdsmen issue which is boss has been all mum on.
If Osinbajo is fit to do the job,et the President relax and allow him do it, Osinbajo might take all the glory but history would record that the achievements were made under the Buhari-led administration. |

When protesters marched on Nigeria's presidential villa earlier this month to complain about a biting recession, they were not repelled by baton-wielding policemen, the usual fate for anyone arriving uninvited at the gate of the country's power center.
Instead, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, who is standing in for the country's sick leader, sent a vehicle to ferry the protest leaders to his office, where they complained about widespread corruption.
In a frank admission, Osinbajo acknowledged the government had failed to make as much progress fighting graft as it had hoped.
"We hear you loud and clear," he told the protesters.
President Muhammadu Buhari has been in London for six weeks on medical leave, raising questions over his capacity to govern Africa's largest economy.
In his absence, diplomats and business leaders say the presidency has acted with an energy rarely seen in the two years since Buhari, 74, was elected.
Civil servants say they are handling heftier workloads, while investors are praising a new, long-needed foreign exchange policy. Meanwhile, diplomats say Osinbajo's inner circle is gaining influence inside the presidency.
To be sure, Osinbajo has made clear his loyalty lies with Buhari, a retired general who has struggled to define a clear strategy to deal with Nigeria's slide into recession and stands accused by opponents of inaction.
But the 59-year-old lawyer is getting work done. He has relaxed visa rules to lure foreign investors -- a plan drawn up by Buhari but which like others got stuck in his chief of staff's office, according to diplomats.
Officials in the Aso Rock presidential complex in Abuja have seen their working hours extended to 7 p.m. when Osinbajo leaves, or later. Buhari and his aides typically close shop at 4 p.m., officials said.
"This man is a workaholic," one presidency insider said. "I wonder whether he rests at all because he even shifts some of the meetings to his official residence."
"BACK ON TRACK"
Nigeria tumbled into a full-year recession in 2016 for the first time in a quarter of a century as a slump in crude oil revenues hammered the OPEC member's public finances.
The Treasury has faced an acute shortage of hard currency that has piled pressure on the Naira, which still trades at a more-than 30 percent premium on the black market even after policymakers effectively devalued the currency for private individuals last Monday.
After stiff resistance from Buhari for a full devaluation throughout last year. With the president absent, last week's move was seen as testing the waters for a broader weakening.
The central bank's move came after the National Economic Council, an advisory body headed by the vice president, called for an urgent review.
"We believe the reform agenda is back on track," said Bismarck Rewane, CEO of Lagos consultancy Financial Derivatives. "The reform agenda has always been there but is more visible now with the vice president," he said.
The president's office has posted pictures on social media of Buhari recuperating to allay rumors his health was worse than publicly acknowledged, though none have been published for more than a week.
For now, there is no clarity on when Buhari, from the predominantly Muslim north, will return.
Osinbajo's leadership appears to have been accepted in the north, which under an informal deal with the Christian south should have its turn at the helm of power.
And he has won praise from southerners who felt neglected by Buhari, visiting both the commercial capital, Lagos, and the oil producing Niger Delta on several occasions. Buhari has visited neither as president.
Local residents say militant attacks on pipelines in the Delta have fallen since Osinbajo promised to drag the region out of poverty in a flurry of speeches.
Moreover, Osinbajo has showed himself to be swift to act.
On one trip to Lagos' international airport, he challenged officials on why the air conditioning and a luggage carousel were not working, and even inspected the toilets. The next day he fired the bosses of Nigeria's civil aviation.
Aides to Osinbajo stress that he is acting with Buhari's consent.
"President Buhari ... ensures that everyone falls in line," said Osinbajo's spokesman, Laolu Akande.
It is a message that Buhari loyalists are quick to reinforce. The president's political adviser, Babafemi Ojodu, said the two men spoke every day.
"There is nothing that has been done since the vice president started acting that is not something that started far back in the past," said Ojodu. http://www.reuters.com/article/us-nigeria-politics-idUSKBN16726E

lexy2014: some time ago AutoReportNG did a write up on gov obianos Toyota jeep.I was disappointed in his write up and asked him y he didn't rather showcase innosons products instead of toyota.he responded by saying that getting info from innoson about its products was a difficult task& he raised those issues in his write up today.I agree with him but am lost at d kind of responses u put up 2 his argument.in this age, innoson isnt active on d internet.it's a shame.being a new coy is even more teason to b active in d e-space.digital marketing is a great way 2 get ur msg out there except u aren't sure of urself.so when u say innoson and its employees "aren't paying attention" then how will it manufacture cars that will provide customers with a satisfying experience when it doesn't pay attention to whats happening in it's environment?
Again u say innoson isn't competing.this is strange cos if u aren't competing, then what are u doing?there is a market dominated by global brands.so u mean innoson isn't interested in getting a share of d market?
U say innosons products are in high demand.where?even in public transportation u talked about,Toyota is d dominant brand.
Again u said innoson needs ,"references, customers and clients" yet u said innoson isn't interested in selling to individuals. so how do u get references, customers and clients if u don't sell to individuals?
From ur write up innoson is scared of what customers would say if there are defects in d vehicles. last I checked, thats what is called feedback.if u scared of feedback then how do u improve ur product and that is what social media helps u achieve.many global brands from samsung to volkswagen to toyota, have recalled their products but that hasn't killed their biz.it shows that they are customer centric.
So for me, d excuses u gave are defeatist. if that is d thinking in innoson, then most of us would b disappointed cos we are eager to c innoson compete with bigger brands.it can't do that with d kind of mindset that u say operates in innoson You just killed it and projected my thoughts better than I did! I don't understand how a brand isn't interested in market share just because they are Indigenous. They wouldn't enjoy feedback because apparently there response to issues could do more damage than what is on ground. The moment a Nigerian companies starts raking in hundreds of millions of Naira, and or, hundreds of thousands of Naira, they throw caution to the wind, not minding the integrity they struggled to build. |

In addition should innoson, do many of the highlighted as mentioned by the OP he is shoting himself in the foot and indeed sending a signal to foreign car manufacturers who will see the prospect in setting up car plants in the country and in the long run throw the innoson car brand into the Abyss of One time Indigenous car Manufacturing brand best deal he will get is that they will by his plant over or partner with him but name changes. This is absolute rubbish! Indigenous or not, every company must brace for competition. It is the best way of staying afloat. If at this stage, Innoson is scared of healthy competitions then it only implies it is not ready to succeed in the auto world as far as Nigeria is concerned. First off, I have been observing the trend of the brand for over a year now and I am not surprised that the brand is yet to break even. How can it when the target audience are the wealthy and highly placed folks in the society who pose with your vehicles on social media but never drive them? I still believe the brand is still churning out prototypes as they are not yet ready. Myplaydiary, kindly go through the emboldened as posted by you and find below what Auto Josh pointed out which, according to you, would make Innoson fizzle out; 1 . customer care/social media (The heart and soul of every business) 2. Show Rooms (the perfect breeding ground to exhibiting your array of vehicled) 3. Spare parts/accessories (Like hell!) 4. Advert (The heart of every business) If you are scared of doing the above because it would stiffen the competition by seeing many rival companies here, then it's a way of saying the Innoson brand should not be trusted because rather than quality service, the brand is just profit conscious. PS: I honestly don't understand what is wrong with the thinking of most Nigerian companies. It's as if we are programmed to making the same mistakes time and time again. Innoson is clearly not ready. It is not by 'it is our own'. You have to provide those things Auto Josh mentioned to create aggressive awareness about the variety of products and also assure potential customers that there are more than enough parts of your vehicles out there. And rather than note his points, you're being defensive with some flimsy excuses. So typical of Nigerian brands. Later they'll say we don't like patronizing our own. |

gartamanta: Dont decieve your self, there are no regions. There are no people called SE or SS. Neither South East or South South is recognised in the constitution of Nigeria. This so called SE and SS are just geopolitical zones made by General Abacha's regime. It doesnt really mean anything It doesn't? Last I checked, I don't really have something in common with the Yorubas, Igbos or Hausas because we don't speak the same language as these people, let alone, dress/share the same delicacy. Does that make me the same with them then? How can an Urohbo man on the west side of the River Niger be claiming to be 'South South' with an Oron man on the East side of the Niger? What brings them together? That is attaching your self to another. Just like you claim you have Igbos on the part on the other side of the bridge is the same way I share a geopolitical space with the people of Rivers, Akwa Ibom, Edo, and Rivers. It is not up to you to decide. You honestly should face your five states rather than carve a legislature around a region. If you want 'South /South' then you have to seek a referendum like the Biafrans want. Then, you can ask the Ogoja or Ibibio man if he wants to join you. Attach by force must stop. Get it, WE DON'T WANT TO BREAK AWAY FROM NIGERIA, AT LEAST NOT NOW! All we ask is for resource control and true federalism. And last I checked, the only attach-by-force here is, you know who. Or how else do you explain the Isokos and Urhobos being a part of a phnatom legislature Nobody cares about your voice, when the time for the referendum comes, you guys can vote to continue with 'one Nigeria' or just abstain. [s]This project is for those who are comfortable with Igbos.[/s] Those who are not comfortable should vote accordingly so as not to cause misundertanding later. You still miss the point. It's like saying a referendum should be conducted all over Nigeria just because the Igbos want out. It doesn't work that way. Please, the internet and Google is at your disposal. Kindly read up on the Catalan referendum and the region it was conducted. I believe it would change a thing or two. |

That the Igbos pull out of Nigeria does not translate to the break up of Nigeria. Living4christ: IPOB is not forcing anybody to b part of Biafra, it is just a blueprint of what they want to archieve, if the urhobos and the Itshekiris are not interested in Biafra, they will decide by voting in the referendum. You wil have to decide, because if Nigeria breaks you will have to decide.
And don't forget it was barely three months that the leaders in some part of urhobo declared their support for Biafra. So no one person can speak for the urhobo Nation.
As an Igbo man i am more comfortable with all the Igbo speaking region being part of Biafra, to avoid some careless accusation. Funny! The referendum, if it would see the light of day, would only affect a part of Delta and would not get to other parts of Delta State, Edo, Akwa Ibom, Cross River and Rivers. You can't dish referenda to areas that are indifferent to a cause. When the Catalan referendum was conducted, the Basque and core Spanish areas were not riled up by it. The same applies to us. You don't just go about doing things without considering who is interested and who is not. A referedum would not get to every part of Delta state. |

If all this is true, then it means that you people wont be against a referendum. Referendum gives us all the opportunity to reinforce our beliefs. Referendum is your only voice. Lets not forget that Urohbo is still a very small ethnic group, inside Nigeria, you have no voice. Fratermathy is right! If there is a need for us to look elsewhere, we would do without attaching ourselves with whoever. And just like he rightly pointed to you, small voice isn't the same as being irrelevant. We might not be as large as the Igbos but we are definitely no political slaves, like some group mentioned days back. Truth is, we could have the FG listen to us if we want her to, and we won't do it as an ethnic group, but a people from a region - the South South. I guess it does not come as a shock to you as to why you guys, including your pan-African group, are not really taken serious by the FG, despite being a 'majority tribe'. Juxtapose a while while and brood on who is more politically relevant between the two. Frankly, Igbos like me are far more interested in our kith and kin in Anioma, delta state. Wether Urohbo, Isoko or Itsekiri dont join wont be an earth shattering loss. Yes, you do because you need the numbers. If he had accepted it, Dasuki could/would have escaped from Nigeria. You have a point. However, Dikko's resignation did not see him run out of Nigeria. He has been in the country ever since. https://www.blueprint.ng/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/efcc-580x336.jpg The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has recovered another set of vehicles, tricycles, motorcycles and other items from former Comptroller General of Customs, Abdullahi Dikko Inde. According to EFCC, the items recovered from a warehouse in Kaduna said to be property of the former Customs boss include a 2013 model 32-seater Nissan coaster bus, one tipper truck, 42 cargo tricycles, 16 motorcycles, over 500 rug carpets and two fi re-proof safes.
Addressing newsmen on the recovery in Kaduna yesterday, Zonal Head of EFCC Kaduna, Malam Bappa Ibrahim said, the recovery was made based on intelligence report and tip-off at the disposal of the agency. He said the operation which led to the recovery of the items was a continuation of the anti-graft agency’s investigation on the former Customs boss. Ibrahim said the items were found in a warehouse along Nnamdi Azikwe Expressway, around NASFAT village, in Igabi local government area of Kaduna state.
The two recovered safes, which were forced open by EFCC operatives in the presence of press cameras contained only few documents, an iron stamp, 50 and 20 naira notes, amounting to N1,560 and polythene bags. The Zonal EFCC boss refused making comments on the documents found inside the safes, saying further investigations would be carried out on the documents. According to him, “we have recovered more items from the former Comptroller General of Customs, Abdullahi Dikko Inde.

omenkaLives: The president's handlers did a terribly messy job with this situation. We all knew with time, info about his true state would start filtering out because the lid on the state of such a public figure cant be kept forever! It would have been good to have them come out to tell us themselves what actually ails the president instead of us getting same in form of "leaks" in the press.
Pray tell, how exactly has their handling of the situation helped the image of the gentleman? Goddamn he's human and it shouldnt be a thing of shame for one to admit they are unwell. I just dont know what is wrong with these men. Honestly, you're right, and we all have his cousin to thank for this. They obviously didn't learn from the UMYA's issue then to understand how shielding turned a once loving President to one whom many started praying to pass on just so those handling him would no longer be able to hide him. The same is playing out here now and even though many Nigerians are against the President for several reasons, his handlers have given Nigerians so many reasons to see him as an outcast. It has become a thing of shame because everyone has forgotten him and have turned to the VP who has been doing wonderfully well. They say those who fail from the past are doomed to repeat it. They successfully doomed the President, all thanks to greed. Mynd44 Lalasticlala |

bakila: .....with which, he can also function normally. Quite true but not for a 60-year old plus. Diarrhea is a major part of Crohn’s disease. He cannot function properly no matter how well he is packaged. |
