Look at this one. It's people like you that makes nigeria remain backward and underdeveloped. I am making a suggestion on how to make the voting better. Did I say it should be cancelled? I'm suggesting a way to make it more easier and unrigable.

I tire for naija people sha
Tone down. Perhaps you didn't get my message. Seu.n is a programmer, and I'm sure he'd be able to figure a way as opposed to your idea of 'paying' someone to do it. It explains why I said he remains the best person to do and that I said the pageantry remains a part of Nairaland only implies that it is subjected to changing and growing with time. So, either we like the cc thing now or not, it would get better and become obsolete some day 'take it or leave it'. I hope you're okay now?

I don't know what's wrong with most of you and your cheeky attitudes. Digest, you won't but would readily want to look for a way to wage war. undecided

Could you please spell out the objectives of the Forum's Pageantry? What's your definition of beauty? If you claim she is ugly, pick up some mud and give us a better human, better still, compare your beautiful self to her ugly person. I don't get to do this but this is just the height of it. People who voted for her know what they saw in her. I voted her without a doubt and I don't regret it. The concept of beauty is always subjective and I don't need some baked in powder to see beauty. You really have to deal with this because this is reality. Would love to see you contest in the next edition. Ciao!

That same voting system would be able to check eligible monikers. Its just that nairaland don't want to spend money developing it. That cc can be rigged. It has always been rigged you think it's working.
Seun still remains the person to do it. Take it or leave it, the pageantry has come to stay and will remain a part of Nairaland.

In my opinion, this whole thing was really bad. First of all the mod of election can b rigged.

There should be voting system designed on the website where you simply select the moniker and click "vote". Immediately you vote you see the present results live. That cannot be rigged. You don't need to worry about username. But this cc thing they were doing was so fake
The cc thing has been on for a while and it has been working. Those who clone and create multiple accounts know themselves. They were fishing themselves out during the voting process yesterday, which I considered fair. The one you suggested may not necessarily stop or control rigging since anyone can just vote.
Romance › Nairaland Pageantry: Suggestions For Future Use by Sanchez01(op): 10:28am On Jun 26, 2016
For the first time in several years I paid crucial attention to the forum's pageantry, and I would say it was fun and thrilling, not just with the votes, but with some of the dramas that riddled the entire process. As an observer, I noticed quite some things which could be corrected to prevent mishaps, both on the part of Seun, Dygeasy, Dominique, the contestants and their campaign teams. So, below are a few things I noticed and possible recommendations.

1. Proper Publicity Should be given to the competition: This is a forum with over 2 million registered members and I see no reason why due Publicity should not be given to a forum competition as this. While many would say 'it was publicized', the proper thing to do should be to raise aggressive awareness even before it starts, so as to make the competition more interesting and tougher. I suggest an FP awareness a month before it starts so that voters can follow the entire process duly and decide, not on what some random person tells them, but based on who they think is worth it. The same goes for every interview for each of the contestants. This way, the contest prize would not be restricted to Seun and some others who would want to volunteer to add to the prizes. I know this has been done overtime, but there's a big difference between aggressive and mild publicity. Agressive Publicity is capable of landing several sponsors from day one, instead of the grand finale.

2. The rules should be well spelt out: This was what really caused me to start following the contest. I could remember seeing a thread where a party went agog and clamoured for a contestant to be disqualified for alleged plagiarism. To be candid, I was confused as to whether she should have been or shouldn't. I equally could remember seeing Seun's post, asserting that she should be disqualified. I wouldn't blame anyone for the confusion, but for lack of rules. The rules of the competition should be binding all round. If a contestant isn't allowed to 'lift' pieces to substantiate her claims or view points during 'official interviews' with the organizers or moderators, then he or she should not do same with an 'unofficial' interview. There should be no exception.

***Ahead of the subsequent ones which would come later, I'd suggest the forum work towards a project that must be fulfilled by the winners, and not just claiming cash prizes and other loots. Let is be a way of Nairaland giving and the winners, in turn, giving back for some philanthropic cause. Pet projects, campaign against social vices and scourges, etc... Let contestants know it's not just some popularity contest but a way of giving back to the society. I see nothing wrong if a debate session is raised next time.

TO FUTURE CONTESTANTS

3. Adopt a simple, easy to write, moniker: I'm sure lots of persons noticed this; while some opted for Ivyy, others adopted Ivvy and it was quite confusing as to which is which. While I'm not so sure if both were counted for her but then it can be costly and could make a voter who likes you just choose a name he or she can spell. There are names that stick to the head and mind faster. Look for one of those and 'change' ahead if the next pageantry.

4. Choose Humility at all Times: Humility is key to succeeding in everything one does. I could also remember a particular contestant was accused of being rude and arrogant. And although she apologized, one could say it was because of what was at hand. It is safer to stay humble always, rather than wait for a season to do so. Humility costs nothing. As a matter of fact, it radiates and has its way of 'showing' in you, and if it's clearly seen, then count it as a plus to your quest.

5. It is not a beauty pageant/physique contest: I believe this is where most are getting it wrong. They think it should go to the most beautiful or the most 'endowed' and often times tailor their votes around girls with strong and enchanting figures. Quite unfortunate, I must admit. Don't get me wrong, beauty is definitely a huge PLUS to winning, but then it is not enough to make you win. Intelligence + brilliance, coupled with beauty would go along way, but then, beauty as many would say, is subjective.

6. It's a contest, not war: Unfortunately, some of the contestants failed to see this. It's a mere competition and not war zone. Don't talk down your closest 'rival' or rubbish his/her attempts or his/her camp. The earlier you realize it's a contest, the faster you learn to exhibit a sportsman-like conduct. Smear campaigns won't do you any good.

7. Get 'reasonable' and strategic people to help you all through the contest: A few contestants lost so many people who would have voted for them because they flocked themselves with wrong people and advisers. It is not a crime to allow people volunteer to help, but then, you have the power to choose people who would either destroy or increase your chances.

TO FANS/CAMPS/CREWS OF CONTESTANTS

7. Be Dynamic: You don't need to imitate what other campaigners do, there are thousand ways to skin a cat. And just like the proverbial saying that says 'a single route dies not lead into the market', it should be known that unofficial interviews and last minute threads are not the only methods there are to getting your person (s) to the spotlight. Chat threads where people can ask meaningful questions, engaging your person(s) in topical and sensitive issues are good ways of testing the brain.

8. Smear Campaigns would only cause havoc to your candidate(s): Don't lash out at other candidates just to make yours look perfect. It doesn't pay one bit. At the end, you just might end up publicizing other candidates and garnering pity votes on their behalf without knowing it. If your candidate(s) is/are good enough, then you have nothing to fear.

9. Politicking says a lot about your camp: If your camp is planning on going about the pageantry in political manner, then it tells a whole lot about your camp. We all scream rigging day and night, yet, a pageantry so simple could not be conducted without malpractices and allegations of multiple entries.

10.]Sportsmanship: No one likes to lose, not one. However, it is not to say that those who come as first and second runner up should not don the sportsman nature and congratulate whoever wins. For fans of these contestants, please avoid pushing them overboard into thinking their world would come to end if they don't win. Winning is a thing of the mind and we should all be proud of where we have gotten to and what we have become. The 'best' to you may not win, but that does not imply he or she is a sore loser.

Nairaland has to look for a way to make the voting process stricter, so as to pose problems to cloners and trolls whose only goal is to disrupt the entire process.

Congratulations to Lanicky and her team. It was a well deserved win. To all other contestants, you are all winners, if you believe you are.

So you don't want a referendum in the ND, but want the same in other regions. What script are you playing? An Ijaw agenda or a true agenda for all minorities that comprises the region.
A particular region have seen its people scream referendum severally as the only way of reaching their destinies. It does not necessarily apply to the ND. Different strokes for different folks. Just so you know, the Ijaw agendum concerning the Delta would be to break away. I don't speak for minority groups within the Delta because I wouldn't know what they want. I speak for myself and my people. What most people don't understand is that as much as referenda give power to the people, it is not necessarily the way out.

The second picture will shatter the hearts of some people. A referendum is needed in some regions, but definitely not the ND. Importance and due recognition is all we want and not be shoved aside when in reality the bulk of Nigeria's survival rests on the Delta.

True. Knowledge is power. I never know it exists. Thanks. Please can you recommend a book on this for me?
Unfortunately, English language texts are not really updated and rolled out from time to time like they used to do in the early 90's. I think the problem now is the presence of the internet. And true, the internet is the update point now and not the bulky dictionaries we keep in the house. In March this year, the word 'actually' adopted a whole new meaning and form and so far, is considered the most dynamic English word around. Google 'the dynamism of the word actually' and or 'updated English language words' from time to time. The internet is a perfect way of staying abreast as far as the English language is concerned.

Thank you. I have never seen where 'broadcasted' was used as past tense in sentence. But please, do not try using broadcasted in an examination.
The problem is our institutions and their old schooled lecturers and some so called tutorial teachers. English is indeed dynamic, and the beauty of the language is to stay updated. Most examiners are already in the know and would readily set questions to mess up the minds of young exam candidates whose unrepentant teachers have fed their minds certain words 'that can never change' just like you earlier stated. That it is wrong today does not mean it may stay the same forever. And that it is right today does not mean that it would stay that way tomorrow. Unfortunately, I have gone beyond 'examinations', if you know what I mean.

I created a thread about two days back to discuss dynamism of the English language with respect to a certain word. I'm sure it would interest you to know. https://www.nairaland.com/3176198/grammar-conflict-converge-vs-converge#46816593

I still go with what the man said. The two prepositions go with the verb and I will not use 'on' where 'at' is appropriate.
Lol. Interesting, to say. What many don't understand is that words that are often together are not usually regarded as one but two. If it was just the preposition 'on' or 'at' then we would have rightly chosen the proper. For example, 'Further more' is not considered two words but a single word, just like 'converge on' in this regard. Interestingly both are prepositions. One used to be and another has been adopted. Simply put, it is archaic at this point to say 'converge at'.

It is not about sounding smart here but to know the correct form. As at this time, that 'modern day English' has not evolved to the level where the past tense of 'broadcast' is 'broadcasted'.
Broadcast is broadcast in the past tense and past participle forms. In fact, there was never anything like broadcasted. It never exist.
Stop trying to sound smart. You're really doing the opposite at this juncture.

1. Both options for #1 are wrong. You don't GIVE but GRANT leave.
2. A) I wish I were the campaign manager of PDP in the last general election.
3. A) The news of president Buhari's arrival was broadcasted yesterday.
4. B) They appeared to be talking on private matters.
5. B) He fell from the top of the house.
6. B) The subject matter of his discourse was excellent.
7. B) ) If she knew about his financial situation, she would have helped him out.
8. B) Her baby daddy has too many baggage.
9. B) B) Nothing but that would satisfy him.
10. This would definitely pass as A but the consonant 'H' in the English alphabet is the only consonant that is allowed to carry both the 'A' and the 'AN', just like the vowel 'U' can sometimes carry or tag along with the article 'A'. EG, He has A UNIQUE point of view.

Igbos are not the problem, but Biafrans. At this point, they will support anything that can cripple Nigeria. I think for certain reasons, I'm beginning to feel not all of them are bad. Education › Grammar Conflict: Converge ON Vs Converge AT by Sanchez01(op): 6:59pm On Jun 19, 2016
Several years back, during an EGL 101 class, I was made to know one of the characteristics of language is DYNAMISM. Language changes from time to time and it can be pretty fascinating to know what used to be termed 'correct' yesterday is 'incorrect' today. Such is the power of English language.

So I was asked to help out at a particular NYSC orientation camp, alongside some colleagues at the OBS studio, in recruiting and 'teaching' the new PCMs how it done . Long story short, we did all we had to do and got ready to leave the camp after several days. While trying to find my way out of the camp, I met the former Camp Director, alongside a colleague of his. He called my attention to the fact that 'several blunders' had been made since Day One. He claimed he had been hearing 'converge on' on radio instead of 'converge at'. He clearly knew it was me over the radio but for some reasons tried being subtle. I didn't waste any time telling him the 'blunders'are not in any way blunders but the real deal.

He was taken aback for some seconds and argued severally as to why CONVERGE ON is correct instead of CONVERGE AT. He tried being 'logical'over grammar, saying converge on could be correct if it is used on an open, uncovered place. For example;

According to him

1. The protesters converged on the field.
2. The protesters converged at the hall.

While it seems logical enough, I would be quick to point out that logic does not apply to grammar. That it sounds pleasing to the ears does not mean it is correct and vice versa. Unfortunately, his logic is wrong.
Please note that CONVERGE ON is the ONLY correct and acceptable form between both, irrespective of location, covered or uncovered.

For example;
1. Please inform all the contestants to CONVERGE ON the hall immediately.
2. All the athletes converged on the field for their training.
3. I was told that all opticians in Lagos are to converge on Eko Hotel's conference room.

The preposition AT has been substituted with the preposition ON, which is largely the bone of contention. Regardless, just like I earlier mentioned, it does not necessarily need to sound 'sweet'or pleasing to the ears. Such is the power of language, particularly English language. Till date some are yet to move on from the concept of 'Night Vigil'. Be dynamic as every language.

Abeg if there is to be a dicck measuring contest between tribes, it is to be with Anioma alone not the whole Igbo race.

this argument is so counter productive, you are interested in bad things happening to Igbos more than in good things happening to your tribe.
We both know that the lightweight, of the three major tribes, in Nigerian politics today are the Igbos. Surprisingly, some minority groups are fast taking the reins of politics and all that is left from them. Primarily, the reason for this has been the selfish interest of some Igbo groups under the aegis of several names which tend to be branded as 'Ohaneze'. I wrote an article several years back and could put it up again, even on here. Just so you know, I have come to believe there are differences between IGBOS and BIAFRANS. I love the Igbos as a race but have tons of issues with Biafrans. Right now, they're considered 'a dangerous' group, both at home and abroad, and until that brand is lifted, then I may get to see them in different light.

I don't know about true borns, but I know any politically sound Urhobo knows that Igbos have the same interests with their tribe with regard to True federalism and Resource control, and they can help in the actualization of these goals.
I am presently in the East, Enugu precisely, and I have seen and heard people say they want Biafra because that is the only way 'they can control their destiny'. Truth is this, a part of the downfall of the ND is caused by people who started out as voices of Deltans, those you would call militants. A typical Biafran sees anyone who has a different mindset from his as his enemy, one which I consider fascinating. As much as we try to pretend to form a common cause and a sense of belonging. The Biafran dream is a dream of an Igbo man, for the Igbos, and by the Igbos. Truth be told, the concept of breaking away from Nigeria is never the ND dream. We are not as United as people assume the ND to be. But for a common cause, it is safe to say we would come together while the ever thirsty criminals in the region will try hard to sabotage the idea. The same applies to the Igbo people. My short stay here has really made me see that the superiority of the Igbo people does not only affect other groups and tribes but they themselves. I once witnessed a woman saying someone from Owerri is not her sister because she is from Enugu and Enugu people are in a class of their own. Another scenario is that of a keke driver being tagged 'left Abakaliki to Enugu to hustle'. If a people who consider each other different based on geographical location could make it known, then what befalls the Urhobo people when they choose to align with these same folks? Resources vary, just as there are mineral resources all over Nigeria. If every state comes out to protest, then it could work, but Urhobo/ND and Biafrans? Nah...
