Dear Nairalanders, I recommend Ihebrooke to you after having used him recently and knowing him as a man of honour. He doesnt know who i am here but that matters less. |
And when the bowel has eventually moved, nothing would do the clean up better than water. This also affords you the opportunity to feel the by-product of your digestion. |
Zubby77 Ouch. Trust me when i tell you that some local English pilots dont speak french or german or Dutch and vice versa. Yet they fly into those territories. Europe is not like Africa. I have seen Germans who swore never to evr go to Africa simply because of racism. This racism makes some of them to hate or never study anything about Africa. They dont even watch african programmes. Now when one of such person is qualified to become a pilot, you cannot deny him... Some parts of Europe are still 50 years behind USA. Now try to imagine what USA was like 50 years ago. You have to go close to this people to know themPilots have a basic radio telephony language that sees them through international airspaces even as English language is the International Civil Aviation Organization recommended language. You can take a Zubby out of the bush but you cant take the bush out of a Zubby. |
I believe their reason for acquiring a B 737-500 is for effective transportation of troups particularly along with their peace keeping forces around the continent. Im witness to the fact that such exercises of troop transportation had been done through the chartering of commercial airplanes both at home and abroad and in some other cases through the provision of United Nations aeroplanes. The essence of an aeroplane is the purpose it is put to, therefore even as the type is used mainly for civilian transportation it can also be used militarily. As compared to the military Hercules C 130, the Boeing is a jet plane while the C130 is a propeller driven plane. The advantage with the Boeing is in terms of speed and range. The only advantage the C130 has over it is in its short take off and landing capability and operation over rough terrain, a condition thats not so much the case in these days. |
Capt Fola Akinkuotu is a round peg going into a round hole. Happy penetration, skipper. |
Whatever is done in the extreme is detrimental, that a law of nature. Drink too much and you might have health, financial and mental problems. Pray too much and you wont have the presence of mind to face your challenges. Give too much of offering and tithes and you wont have any money left for yourself. Adeboye can say whatever he likes, its up to you to decipher what (common sense) it contains. |
@ Sienna i think that practise of giving an engine the last rev stemmed from the days of carburetted engines, the idea being to leave maximum fuel in the float chamber against the next start. By doing so you would be precluding the need to pump fuel using the accelerator pedal during start. Carburettors were prone to problems arising from blocked jets, flow holes, shut off float valves and fuel evaporation especially following a prolonged parking time. |
Fighter jet, Russian made Iranian named. |
The car truly looks Nigerian, PATHETIC |
If you must keep a gun, be prepared for the implications. 1. A robber who discovers a gun while searching your house might not have intended to kill but could just as well since he stood that chance of being shot at the first instance. 2. You must know how to operate it effectively during an armed combat which might arise during a determined onslaught by the invaders at the return of your fire. 3. Have a mapped out positioning advantage and option B. 4. They may come back with reinforcement some other day assuming you win round one. 5. The good Lord is our Security. |
I was there with her at the birth of our last child. It was a private and expensive hospital which naturally accorded the patient so much importance that no one even dared to ask who you were. After a normal delivery i overheard two nurses whispering, whether i was a doctor or not, going by the fact that i didnt show much emotion. What they didnt know was that i had been smoking weed just before her unexpected contractions at home. ![]() |
Why should Bob's opinion of Jay-Z be anyone's business? |
A wife gets what she deserves in most cases. A loving dutiful wife gets back all the loving and attention from her husband. Men too need to be appreciated. They have blood running through their veins just like women. |
idupaulEven if you carry text book enter exam hall, you will still fail. Propeller or jet engine distinction is a matter of mode of propulsion. Jet is propelled through the blast of the hot gases expelled through the rear and propeller is through the screwing action of the propeller blades through the air whether they are piston powered or turbine powered (turbo-prop). |
That newspaper report was trash, our journalists wish to thrive on sensationalism even when they grossly misinform their gullible readers. 1. The airplane was a single engined propeller(not jet)Cessna 208 equipped to fly on instruments. 2. Yola airport was limited to daytime operations due unserviceability of the runway lights. 3. The crash was not as a consequence of landing at Yola airport, it occured somewhere remote from it. |
That new Airport Terminal is a big joke but its not coming as a surprise since Nigeria has always been about comedy. Why rush into building a terminal with such cheap chinese inferior materials as if its supposed to be a temporary measure |
I would have thought that by now Nairalanders should have been able to know the difference between a jet plane and a propeller plane. Jet has jet engine(s) and propeller has propeller(s). |
1. Nigerian cabin crew dont consider their positions as professional but like stepping stones to something greater hence they dont see the reason to venture out of their shores where their dreams have brighter chances of being realized. Such dreams include becoming pilots, meeting with that rich passenger on board who they can marry, doing some smuggling to get rich quick, getting a better job elsewhere someday etc. 2. Foreign carriers are more stringent on their terms of employment and conditions of service, a nightmare to those just described above. |
No one has asked who made Tee Mac a "celebrity" or what he thinks he has done to assume such a title. |
Omo Tier1, agreed that Nairaland is a leveller, you need to exercise some caution when it comes to addressing issues you know little about and criticising people who can school you in a subject such as this. My experience tells me you know next to nothing except putting up pretences while making references to Joint Aviation Regulations which you might have just come accross on the internet. What Qatar did was a precautionary landing, a landing that was with little danger. Landing with one landing gear is anyone's nightmare, otherwise plane manufacturers wouldnt have bothered adding to that number. Hence such a landing would be an emergency landing where anything could happen including fatalities due perceptible total loss of control during the landing roll. The main idea of using nitrogen gas to inflate aircraft tyres is to preclude the possibility of fire and consequently explosion in case of tyre burst and for your information those tail plane and vertical stabilizer parts you mentioned are at the rear of the plane, pretty high and most unlikely to get hit by tyre debris in the case of tyre burst. Dont write on marble the saying which goes by "empty barrels make the most noise". Yours is even the defiant noise type. |
Crash landing is about a landing beyond control. Nitrogen is used to avert fire because of the inert property of nitrogen gas. Tyre deflation can occur in the air just like your car spare tyre can deflate in your car boot. The danger a deflated tyre poses to an aircraft is mainly the impacting of its debris on the airframe and engines but because of the forward position of the Airbus 330 engines, they stood little chance of both impaction and ingestion of the debris from the main landing gear. |
What we should be thinking is that if foreign airlines designate their routes across the country, local airlines will wind up because they won't have any passengers left to carry. Its already bad enough as it is because Kano, PortHarcourt, Abuja and Lagos are already being serviced by a number of foreign airlines. The same countries concerned shall not condone such a thing in their boudaries. |
Thats why i like to drink my beer Even in vanity it brings good cheer ![]() |
These cases come up all the time but this is popular because of the Major General connection. I wish these ladies could be less moronic. |
Being a former pilot, its not surprising Gov. Wada dramatizes. |
@sexyTi: “There was no casualty recorded during the incident; however, the two aircraft had to abort their missions.Aircraft dont have an (s) as plural in English language unless you go into advanced grammar to express they are in their various types. The airplanes here are the same Boeing 737 type, thus aircraft is correctly used. Had there been other types like the Airbus,Cessna,Bombardier, then aircrafts can be acceptedly used. Just like you dont pluralise people, water etc unless it becomes absolutely necessary for expression. ![]() |
Nigerian news reports on airplanes are laughable. This writer claimed at the begining that the Arik plane had skidded off the runway due turbulence and at the end of the report that it almost skidded off the runway. Reporters unashamedly display so much ignorance putting up their stories and misinforming the public in their senseless pursuit of sensational journalism. Hardly can turbulence be blamed for an airplane overruning the runway. No pilot will deliberately put his life and others at risk. The issue of weather deals with the unpredictable aspect of nature otherwise the tsunamis and the hurricanes of the world wouldnt catch people unawares in spite of the technology at their disposal especially in those parts of the world. My guess is that the pilot initially delayed departure out of Enugu due the Abuja weather conditions made available to him and upon receiving another report stating a marked improvement set out on the journey only to arrive at Abuja such a time that the weather had deteriorated again but just good enough to make a landing. |
If you don't trust the airlines in Nigeria for any reason, the practical option is to hire a business jet also known as corporate jet or private jet. Helicopters are not for such distances like Lagos to Abuja. They are too slow, noisy, uncomfortable and cannot attain such altitudes that keep you above en route weather. They may also need to refuel along the way during the three and a half hours flight. |
Jakumo: Failed runway lights would prevent landings, but aircraft could still take off under the illumination of their own multiple high-intensity floodlights. CuteTj: Very true. While driving on road at night, you have an idea of the track courtesy of your headlamp but when you're airborne and approaching the runway, you need the runway lights to help you navigate your way to enable you land. The bold pilot knows he cannot take off with the runway lights off because he will violate the rules that state he must not. The rules take into consideration the following factors: 1. Should the plane need to come back to make an emergency landing, what happens? 2. Should the plane lose its electric generators during take off, what happens? 3. Should the safety margin be halved or doubled under any circumstance? 4. Are there any old bold pilots? |
Bluetooth Has anyone really checked out Associate airline ? Their planes reminds me of peugeot 404 but funny enough they have never experienced any air mishap. ![]() They sure have had some problems, but you can describe them as minor. |
