Re: After Murdering Wife, pilot Considered Crashing A Lagos-bound British Airways Jet In A Suicide Bi

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The life of airline captains is not as glamorous as many would imagine. It often takes many long impoverished years for them to completely refund the loans they needed to complete aviation school, and when they first start out as regional airline pilots, they make as little as $14K a year. Hell, Mcdonalds pays as much as that to its burger flippers, which explains why some laid-off pilots wind up settling for menial employment as truck drivers or store greeters in Wallmart.

Furthermore, seniority is completely lost when a pilot is furloughed, or voluntarily leaves one airline to join another. That means a left-seat 747 captain who loses his high-paying job could wind up as a right-seat first-officer in a freight hauler like Fed-ex, earning peanuts, working long hours in the cockpit of an ageing 727 out in far-flung locations, and losing all the prestige of that previous captain spot that took him literally decades to attain before that dreaded furlough.

Clearly this BA 747 captain was belittled and humiliated by his independently wealthy wife and her use of expensive attorneys in their marital battle, which explains his ultimate consideration of murder and suicide as an end to his troubled existence. For every underpaid pilot who does tip over into insanity, there are many more who are near breaking point, due to the abiding curses of being underpaid, in troubled marriages, and on very difficult work schedules.

In my humble opinion, airline pilots deserve salaries and job promotion opportunities comparable to that of medical doctors, given that both categories of employment routinely entrust human lives to a highly trained professional who must not be distracted by money woes or fears of job security. That being said, the suicidal captain who contemplated crashing his 747 into a Lagos suburb must now face the full weight of criminal justice.
The life of a pilot in Uk may not be glamorous but it goes with pride and dignity. Pilots' careers are influenced by their countries of practice but we shall focus on the country where this crime was committed. As compared to the rest of the world, pilots in the Uk are priviledged to have a well monitored and accountable system, typical of most things the British do. They are relatively better paid and if they must refund any loans taken to facilitate their primary training, conditions for such repayment are definitely not as draconian as we are being led to believe. Even as regional pilots, what they earn is in multiples of the quoted $14k a year. A British Airways pilot, especially one rated on the B 747 and in the capacity of a Captain is one of the best paid pilots in the world, please google for confirmation. This suicidal Captain has obviously lost his mind, but the cause has no significance to his job as a pilot otherwise assylums all over the world will have a high representation of pilots due numerous probable reasons ("abiding curses"winkas given by the honourable Jakumo.
Car TalkRe: 4-cylinder Engine Vs 6-cylinder Engine by sandee575(f): 1:27pm On May 17, 2011
A V6 engine is stronger. It is quieter, powers your power steering and airconditioner better, gives you higher speed
performance and its much more durable. The fuel consumption penalty is worth every drop of it and it isnt that much.

The best isi-ewu joint has been at Ipodo, Ikeja for some two decades and its not relenting in serving
the most delicious that can be found on this planet. Scoup the sauce with the "ear", puncture the "eye" in between
your molars as the contents stain your teeth black and when you are through with the demolition, use the incisor as toothpick.

The plane landed normally but impacted with goats during its landing roll. Those goats had encroached
the runway while grazing around the airport. The sight of animals inside airport perimeters is common
especially in the northern part of Nigeria. Technically, this incident cannot be classified as crash-landing.

Car TalkRe: What Is The Preferred Engine Type In Nigeria - Petrol Or Diesel, And Why? by sandee575(f): 1:52am On Mar 08, 2011
@ Sienna. Your piece is informative but there it stops where it applies to the Nigerian context.
The average car owner just wants to have the basic considerations about their routine maintenance.
Hence the vital statistics at your disposal do not matter even when they make sense. The Japanese cars
dominate and that is because of low fuel burn and availabilty of spare parts. Preference for a diesel propelled car
has no prominence and it is found only in heavy transport vehicles and in diplomatic circles where local standards
dont matter. Investment would find viability in procuring and maintaining petrol fuel injection systems. High diesel prices
are due to the demand of same for generator purposes in a country that has all but has none to show. Happy motoring.
Car TalkRe: What Is The Preferred Engine Type In Nigeria - Petrol Or Diesel, And Why? by sandee575(f): 6:40pm On Mar 07, 2011
No one has mentioned the irritating "knocking" sound, characteristic of diesel engines in those days and were a turn-off to prospective car

buyers. I personally couldnt stand that but fortunately theres been a lot of refinement thats gone into eliminating the diesel sound especially

in cars. Another turn-off could be found in their performance speed-wise. The petrol engines afforded higher speeds. Now that these minuses

have been adequately taken care of, the fuel consumption advantage diesel had over petrol has been nullified by the doubling of diesel cost as

compared to petrol. Im still and will ever be a petrol person. Every other factor being the same i can do without the greasiness that comes with diesel.

Murano has serious problem with the gearbox unless a special fluid is used, it costs 300$
However Nissan didnt say it till many complaints were made in US. I dnt know how can u know whether the owner used dat fluid or nt
The gearbox costs 4k- 6k $
Gudluck
Nissan said it all in Murano's Owners Manual with a warning that the gear box will not tolerate another type of fluid but the recommended one.
However, most of our mechanics, including those, who by virtue of the companies they work for, have no idea about this and the resultant effect
is rampant damage to Murano gear boxes and their stigmatization as unreliable contraptions.

hi there NLs,
pls am about to buy a murano;but people say the SUV has gearbox issues and its selling for like 400,000 naira(gearbox).pls how true is this gearbox trouble issue?and does anyone know what issues such suv have or the cost of the gearbox.
thanks
Murano is a fine SUV and you wont have gear box isssues if you use the right fluid which is specially recommended
for its Continuous Variable Transmission (CVT) system and it is available at Nissan motor dealers. Before buying, make
sure you check underneath the engine for signs of oil leak. Run away if such is evident because it could be a problem
you would find hard to solve.

I respect your last one. I believe intelligence is a gift. Those that have it should tolerate the have-nots.
It proves frustrating every time but the consolation comes from the knowledge that you possess what is
glaringly absent from your fellow being. Heal your wounds with a measure of humour and accept losses you
might have incured in the encounter with dignity. Mother nature has a balance. If in doubt, have a beer on me.

Even though i dont agree totally with Sagamite, the fact remains that he is an intelligent man and he isnt modest
about it. You goofed badly right from the original thread on women's non physical attraction to men claiming there
isnt much of a difference in people's intelligence. Nothing could be farther from the truth. Your subsequent posts have
done further damage and you've stopped making sense entirely. Better luck next time.

@ Sagamite. Thanks for your answer. But seriously, are we not taking this intelligence factor too far. Do you have to be a rocket scientist to be
intelligent. Lets remain with the so called most powerful men on earth. How would you rate the President Obama? And is oratory a virtue of intelligence?
Nairaland GeneralRe: Every Human Being Is Almost Equally Intelligent - Blackteeth by sandee575(f): 6:34pm On Jan 13, 2011

In life there is no ideal situation. Some fathers dont care and we blame them. Some do and we still find
a reason to blame them. Parenting is not that easy and there will be some not so perfect methods while
trying to be a good parent. Feel good about your father's love for you. In my case my father caned the
living daylights out of me. He meant well.
