@op, my mantra is that whatever is your own is your own. God's time is always the best. I did an visa interview with the USA embassy in Abuja in April. I was applying for the H1-B visa. I was only asked two questions. 1. What's your highest degree? 2. How much will you be earning? Less than 5 minutes interview and I received the visa. However, the person before me and after me were students (F visas) and both were denied. The fact is, I have always wanted to go to the USA. I wrote the SAT for undergrad, wrote the GRE and TOEFL. I paid application fees. All to no avail. Fast-forward after I got my PhD, an organization sponsors my work permit to the USA. It felt like a mirage but it was God's timing. Please don't let the refusal bother you. Dust yourself up and apply again. Don't give up! 7 Likes |

I earn at least 55 British Pound per hour teaching Chemical Engineering modules. There are many platforms for online tutoring such as Spires.co and Cheggs. It is compulsory to use a writing tablet for the platform I use. 2 Likes |

Dear Nairalanders, I have been living in Cape Town, South Africa but decided to share some of my experiences there. I hope you get to visit the beautiful City some time soon. Cape Town is a city about 70 % (ca. 2,455 km2 the size of Lagos State and with a population 20 % (about 435,000) that of Lagos state (Wikipedia, 2017). It is one the few first world cities in a third world country. So here goes: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cape_Town 1. White coloured cars are predominant while most people use the hatchback kind of car. 2. Free condoms can be found in most public toilets that are mostly clean and well maintained. 3. Expiry dates are written on almost all perishable products/items. 4. Cape Town has a diverse culture and ethnicity. Approximately 15 % of its population are whites from diverse countries of origin while the coloured people are dominant population (approximately 50 %) of Cape Town http://worldpopulationreview.com/world-cities/cape-town-population/ 5. Black ladies typical have buttocks 1.5 times larger than the average Nigerian lady and typically do not put on make-up. The whites, coloured and Indian ladies typically are flat front and behind. 6. Data is typically more expensive In South Africa R 99 (about N 2500) for 500 MB using CELL-C. This is way more expensive than Airtel, 9 Mobile, MTN or even GLO bundles in Nigeria https://www.cellc.co.za/cellc/get-databundles 7. Electricity is 24 hours. Although I have been in Abuja for the past 4 days and its pretty much more than 23 hours of electricity. 8. Roads are generally well paved and tarred 9. Average salary of a recent graduate Cape Tinian is higher than recent Nigerian graduates. The lowest earn at least ZAR 13,000 (about N 333, 000) per month http://caglobalint.com/recruitmentafrica/blog/2015/09/10/top-10-highest-salaries-for-graduates-in-south-africa/ 10. Most people dress casually to church on Sundays as against us Nigerian. 11. Whenever someone invites you to lunch or for a drink, you must pay for what you take. Unlike Nigeria where the inviter takes up all the tabs. 12. Contrary to general belief about black South Africans, there are many industrious South Africans

AlwaysUltraPad: I agree a 100% with you! We derive more joy by what we share. Why should someone who has walked through a particular road earlier make another person walking through same road pass through it alone? There are enough benefits for sharing and I always regret that I didn't share enough in my undergrad days. Whatever would be would be, no matter what anyone does or says. If God says this is for you, nothing can stop it. For those sharing, God bless you all and those keeping mute God bless you too. We should live more of the Ubuntu mantra "I am because you are!" 10 Likes |

Perez007: Hello guys, as stated earlier, I got in touch with a DPR representative and he reliably informed me that my profile and so many others were hacked . That's why there are still so many pending statuses. He said we should be called in batches and that they are working on the hacked profiles. There's not much I can do again but to leave everything to God. Best of luck guys! |

Skilme: Hi Skilme, I have just sent emails to the web link I provided earlier. I believe at this age, we should be getting prompt responses (within 4 working days) from such reputable organizations as DPR. This is a bit disheartening but how can we get the moderators to move it to a wider audience. cc: Seun, Lalatisclala |

Edowonyi: Thanks for your response ! I was beginning to think I am alone. Well, network issue or not, we have to call the attention of the DPR representative(s). This may severely hamper our chances of being called. I have done a little google search on who to contact. I found the contact details of the Head of Public affairs (https://dpr.gov.ng/index/contact-us/). I would drop him an email on Monday hopefully stating my plight. Everything has to be transparent and hopefully I get an expedient response. I suggest that you should do it too. |

Hi guys, I want to first of all congratulate the graduate trainee applicants who have been called up for the test. This post is basically for experienced hires. When I heard DPR had started calling, I decided to check my profile once again. To my utmost surprise , the details of my graduation date, degree, university and even my grade have been tampered with. All other data I inputted remained unchanged. It is worth stating that I applied for the experienced-hire chemical engineering position. I have an undergraduate degree in chemical engineering (Second Class Upper Honours) from University of Port Harcourt and a masters degree in another engineering course. The rude shocker on the DPR profile is that I graduated from University of Benin, with a Political Science and Public Administration degree with a Second Class Lower . Please is there anyone having this same issue? I believe this has to be reported as fraudulent if investigated properly. Is there any channel I can lodge my complaint? Thank you! PS: The details below are from my profile! Business / Change Of Account Name And CBN Directive by sangfroidJJ: 8:38am On Jan 04, 2017 |
Dear Nairalanders, I recently got married and went with my wife to conduct some transactions in Access bank. The issue now is that my wife did a change of surname to mine which was published in one of our prestigious dailies. In order to use a certain bank account of hers, the name on her BVN needed to be changed. In doing this at the Customer Care desk of Access Bank, we were intimated that a CBN directive stipulates that we bring the following for our transaction to be completed: 1. Newspaper publication showing the change of name 2. Marriage certificate 3. Proof of Official Identification Card My problem with the above requirements was the proof of Identification. The Access Bank staff told us that my wife had to present an Identification (I.D.) card bearing her new surname. The options we have for these are: a. International Passport (Renewable every 5 years) b. Drivers’ licence (Renewable every 3 years) c. Voter’s Card (Never renewable) d. National Identity Card (Renewable every 5 years) All these documents bear my wife’s maiden name, does this imply she has to make an entirely new I.D. just to change the name on her bank account? We all know the hassles it takes to get any of the I.D. cards not to talk of the cost implications. Please we humbly request great suggestions on how to overcome this challenge. Thanks 1 Like |
Nairaland / General / Last Chance To Save The Ekuri People's Home In Akwa Ibom! by sangfroidJJ: 1:29pm On Jun 08, 2016 |
Dear Nairalanders, I am currently studying abroad and interestingly one of my Professors (not Nigerian) sent a link to me (below), indicating that I should please sign a petition to stop the building of a six-lane highway in Akwa Ibom. The threat to our rainforest is at stake and also the home of the Ekuri people who currently have no voice to stop the Governor of Akwa Ibom from carrying out this project. Hence, I encourage everyone to please sign the petition. Thank you! https://www.rainforest-rescue.org/petitions/1045/last-chance-to-save-the-ekuri-people-s-rainforest-in-nigeria?mtu=160965661&t=1757 |

Properties / How Can I Get Rid Of An Annoying Tenant? by sangfroidJJ: 7:33pm On Nov 05, 2015 |
Dear Nairalanders, this is my first major post and I would say I have learnt so much from this forum as a very passive observer. Over the years, I have noticed the exemplary wealth of experience and advice people have proffered to solving various challenges in life and here I have my major challenge which goes as follows; My dad passed away within the last five years and we have a property which we put out for rent while he was still alive. The tenant prior to my dad's death had stayed in our property for about 7 years and you can say considering the year we are in, he has been in our property for over a decade. The main issue is that we gave this our tenant 7 months notice to quit our property since we want to refurbish the place and increase the rent. The rent he has been paying is currently less than 40% of the asking price today and we can't increase the rent astronomically on his head that's why we gave him ample time to quit. Well, the notice we gave was duly signed and delivered by hand through our lawyer. On occasion of the expiration of the notice, the tenant and his family did not even move or blink an eye . They stayed in the property as if nothing had transpired 7 months earlier. So I asked my family to take him to court but my mum and other elders prevailed on me not to do so but discuss with the tenant amicably out of court while writing an MOU duly signed by all present. With this done, we gave them 3 months additional notice. Well 3 months came like a breeze once again and the tenant still dd not move. He even had the nerve to take us to an Arbitration court . We all went to this arbitration court and the court gave an order that they should be given additional 3 months and they should pay rent on the current rent-age (which I said earlier is less than 40% of the asking price today) after which they should quit. This extra 3 months has elapsed again and we are even in the 5th month after the verdict was made. The tenant and his family are not just moving! We are currently considering taking them to court now but this has been so annoying. I can say now it has taken almost 2 years since we served them the first notice to quit. What can we do without breaking the law? The property is in Lagos state, on the mainland! I would be grateful on all meaningful suggestions. Moderators if this can be moved to front page, I would be grateful too Thank you cc: lalasticlacla |
