Gibberish!

If you respected your privacy, you wouldn’t have put up your picture on the forum!

And look at the flimsy excuse you gave about his shorts and palm being dirty? Is that your first sense of judgement? Embarrassed by someone you don’t know from Adam? If he had pulled up with a Mercedes Benz GL 450, would you have created a topic about where you both ended up?

No...like every Nigerian they collect because they're greedy and smart. Same thing Nigerians do back home with illegal NEPA connections and paying bribes to get admission to University. These people collect the welfare then do side jobs that earn them another $3K per month, tax free.

You were the one emphasizing the magnitude of 500K salary in Nigeria which is just $700, really nothing at all. A Nigerian family on welfare in California or Massachusetts can comfortably save that amount in a month and send it to Nigeria.

With time depending on their attitude, they will get off welfare, especially when they've saved enough to buy a house. THE MAJOR WAY that welfare keeps people poor is that you can't own a house in the USA and be on any welfare. Never. And home ownership is the major path to wealth accumulation for the middle class in the USA because home values tend to rise....you know this of course. This is HOW those on welfare become poor.

Also another thing....do you know that every legal resident of the USA over age 65 is entitled to collect a minimum of about $600 in Social Security even if you never worked a single day? Even immigrants are entitled. It's crazy and makes no sense but there you are, it's the USA, land of the free. grin

Only 0.4% of Nigerian workers in Nigeria earn over N200K. That's $270 equivalent, truly ridiculous. What percent even earn N500K? Of course ALL the ones on Nairaland earn way above that, but the exact percentage would be interesting to know.

Depressing cry

Nigeria is a poverty stricken hell hole.

Tufiakwa!

Don’t twist the narrative. Whoever is still collecting welfare legally or illegally is still struggling. Do you know implication of cheating the system? Who does it is definitely in need of it and like I said, still struggling.

The class of people you mentioned earlier would never do such in Nigeria because they were above being comfortable.

And stop comparing or interrelating values of currency between nations. It is baseless and holds no water. The value you get is always different. I can spend $200 eating a considerable portion of seafood in Newyork, that same amount of converted to Naira, will feed 5 people till they throw up. That’s just an example, the value is always different.

I will reinstate, some people have past that level of Japa, it’s the lies been sold to them that makes go astray.

Japa has those it favours, people who have nothing to lose. Not those who have accomplished loads over years and having prospects of attaining heights. Why trade for a new life where you have to start illegitimately soliciting for welfare. Something you would never do back home where you claim to a shithole

Must I say everything? Try and read between the lines. I'll keep it short - people collect welfare and still work for CASH on the side. It's a very common thing and being in the USA, I'm sure you know....or should know.

Hello?

You are right!

They collect welfare because they earn peanuts

Again, simple question - these people made their migrant decisions in 2013 to 2015. Has Nigeria gotten better or worse since then?

Cheers!

Traded accomplishment in Nigeria for welfare in the USA. I know the life people who qualify for welfare live.

You telling me an oil worker with 500k salary and probably a house over his head in Nigeria, ended up with welfare in the US? And you claimed that he is doing fine?

Let’s say the truth and stop painting mirages.

Please what is 500K biko? As in 500,000 NAIRA, right? Don't make me laugh. That's what, $1K? grin Oga be serious, haba!!!

I've followed the progress of some of them. One of them, a couple actually, went to Canada, got oil & gas jobs there and are doing just fine. They eventually returned to the USA legally as Canadian citizens and are still in the industry.

Another guy actually went broke and basically homeless for a while. Then they did the easiest thing to make your stay in America much more stable - they had a baby, an AUTOMATIC CITIZEN. Look up the term ANCHOR BABY. They actually went on welfare, got government provided housing and the wife went to nursing school FOR FREE, the guy I sincerely don't know what job he's into now. A nurse I'm sure can comfortably afford to send $1K to Nigeria every few months.

By the way in the USA state of Massachussets, ILLEGAL immigrants who have babies get so much money you wonder why ANYONE would choose to work at all. If you doubt me, research the topic on the internet. I know a Nigerian illegal immigrant couple with kids that collects over $3K in benefits every month. And it's your guess if they work on the side for cash....what do you think? The major risk to this scenario is actually DIVORCE, but for a couple that are dedicated to each other? Ol' boy the SKY is the limit.

I hate to sound crass, but seriously, even ₦‎1million naira a month is shitty compared to what a penniless immigrant can make in the USA after being here 3 to 5 years. I mean, go down ANY major street in urban areas and McDonalds is hiring at minimum of $11 per hour...or you can go to Indian hoteliers that will hire illegals AND house you in the hotel too.

Nobody is chasing immigrants in the USA the least of us here live better than anyone making 500K in Nigeria....500K My mother got to this country at age 55yrs and did better than that within a year!!!

Call me whatever you like, I've said my piece. I'll end with an important question. Think about it...has Nigeria gotten much better or much worse since 2013 or 2015? What do you think?

Cheers!

From the statements you made, someone collecting welfare is not doing fine. I own 6 properties in the US and know what plays!

You mentioned warfare like it’s a plus? It’s because they are poor and why they are getting it.

Also, you mentioned how someone crossed to Canada to get asylum. Are you talking of same oil worker doing fine in Nigeria? Do you know how much he has expended in those lost years?

Stop hyping American or Canadian citizenship, that what as been fooling a lot! It guarantees NOTHING! Only JJC’s hype it. All those below poverty line in the US are American citizens too. It’s about the work you put in over a long period of time.

Your last statement is what deceived many. You made the journey look so easy and happening within considerate time.

You in Houston, you should know better. If it’s that easy, those factories won’t be filled up with Nigerians.

Do you know people in the oil & gas industry in Nigeria? I lived in and maintained a home in Houston around 2013 to 2015. For whatever reason around that time...well, it was because the price of crude oil crashed and many feared for their futures..... many Nigerian engineers who came for training FROM Nigeria would refuse to go back. Some of them even lost the jobs but PREFERRED TO stay in the USA. These were people making ₦‎500K to ₦‎1million per month. These are exactly the kinds of people you're referring to, right?

Well that's almost a decade ago and from what I see, they're not regretting it. Think about it...has Nigeria gotten much better or much worse since 2013 or 2015? What do you think? Even the vaunted oil & gas in Nigeria has lost a lot of jobs, the sector is stagnating because many foreign companies pulled out. I know this because I know many people in that industry.

Good Luck to Nigeria.

Those are the class of people I am talking about. Imagine having a job of 500k and a roof over your head, only to opt for illegal immigration. Did you follow their journey after staying back? They start selling off assets to maintain status and paying immigration lawyers. Did you ask what kept them busy after wards? They start working in factories with the lowest class of people.

Yes! Few make it out successful. But when you consider the numbers of successful ones to those that lost it, you will realize the risk at that stage is not worth.

Some people do mention for the children? Is education cheap in a place like the USA? How many families can afford to pay off the tuition fees of their kids?

I will reinstate again, Japa is not worth it for some class of people. The social media pictures and lies fooled them.
