Ambode vows to preserve Lagos historical, cultural heritage

Commissions newly upgraded Tinubu Square Fountain

Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode on Friday expressed the resolve of his administration to continue to preserve cultural and historical sites across the State and develop them to international standard to boost tourism, employment generation and relaxation.

Governor Ambode, who stated this while commissioning the newly upgraded Tinubu Square Fountain in Lagos Island, said many initiatives have been perfected by the State Government to scale up the tourism potentials of the State, especially through upgrade of infrastructures and preservation of monuments in the State.

The Governor, who was represented by the Special Adviser and Acting Commissioner of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Hon Adebimpe Akinshola, said the decision to renovate Tinubu Square was informed by the need to upgrade it to a level that befit the status of the Lagos Central Business District (CBD).

Besides, he said the development was also part of the plan of his administration to develop the Marina and Onikan axis to world class tourism destination.   

Speaking further on the site, the Governor said: “All over the world, monuments are erected as a way of preserving human history and upholding societal values and ethics. They are testament of selfless leadership, valor and bravery of great men and women who have contributed significantly to the development of mankind.

“As we all know, this magnificent monument was erected in memory of a valiant woman, Madam Efunroye Tinubu, the first Iyalode of Egbaland and one of the greatest merchants of colonial Lagos.

“It is a celebration of her exploits in the business world and contribution to the foremost status to which our State has attained in the world of commerce and for us as a government and in line with our administration’s commitment to harness the tourism potentials of our State, historical monuments such as this will continue to be given a face lift and outlook.”

The Governor, however, appealed for the cooperation of residents in ensuring the protection of the site against vandalization and distortion of its historical and tourism value, saying that it was the collective responsibility of all to preserve the rich cultural and historical heritage in the State for the present generation and generations yet unborn.

In his remarks, Sole Administrator of Lagos Island East Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Hon Abiola Are said the upgrade of Tinubu Square was a demonstrable evidence of the clear vision and passion of Governor Ambode for development and preservation of historical heritage in the State and urged the people to continue to support the Governor.

He recalled the dilapidated state of the site before the intervention of the Governor, saying that it was a good thing that the government was thinking in such direction.

IMO AIRLINE: GOVERNOR OKOROCHA ACQUIRED THE AIRCRAFT FOR HIS 2019 PRESIDENTIAL CAMPAIGN AMIDST HUNGER IMO STATE.

The attention of the Peoples Democratic Party, Imo State has been drawn to reports in the media on the purported procurement and inauguration of "Imo Airline", by Governor Rochas Okorocha at the Sam Mbakwe International Airport, Owerri.

This is another fraud as preliminarily exposed by saharareporters.com, which will not in any manner, address the dwindling fortunes of the good people of Imo State but rather serve the bogus 2019 presidential ambition of Governor Okorocha.

Imolites are not only in rude shock on the ill conceived "inauguration of the airline" but also alarmed at the blatant lies by Governor Okorocha that, "Imo was not affected by the much-talked about recession in the country because some people might wonder why the state should dabble into airline business in time of recession because the state has cleared arrears of pension and has paid salaries up to December 2016."

The above statement is not only careless but a broad day murder of decorum, integrity and respect for the Office of the Governor.

Nigerians are aware that Governor Okorocha has sacked over 10, 000 civil servants as a result of economic recession. As at today, pensioners and civil servants in Imo State are owed 77 months and several months of salary arrears. There is high level of unemployment among youths and total collapse of infrastructure while there's no functional education or health system in all the 27 local government of the state. 

Verifiable records show that Governor Okorocha has received on behalf of Imo State, over N150 Billion between January to December 2016 in Internally Generated Revenue,  federal allocation, ecological funds, 13% derivation, local government allocation, bailout funds and recently the Paris Club Debt Cancellation deductions, yet there is no trace of these funds in any sector of the state.

We had expected the governor to be bold enough to tell Nigerians that the aeroplane was procured as part of the logistics for his 2019 presidential campaign. More worrisome is the haste at flagging off his presidential campaign at a time President Buhari is on a medical vacation rather than join well meaning Nigerians to pray for the speedy recovery and return of Mr. President.

We call on President Buhari to immediately order the grounding and disposal of the aeroplane and return the proceeds to the empty coffers of Imo State to alleviate the biting hardship of Imolites.

Okorocha introduced to Imo state.According to him,the airline killed his wife and daughter in 2012 and urged Imolites not to patronise the airline.Below is what he wrote....

'Do not be deceived. This airline will kill you. It killed my wife and my daughter on June 3 2012. The 'fake and fraudulent investigation' then in Nigeria cleared them and let them back into the air. The vigilant officers and men of the NCS Sokoto/Kebbi/Zamfara Command has arrested a suspected smuggled vehicle concealed in a truck loaded with firewood.

Addressing reporters at the Command headquarters, the CAC Compt. Sani Madugu told newsmen that the truck was arrested along Tangaza – Ruwawuri road coming into Nigeria.

He said examination conducted byhis officers revealed that the truck was found to contain 1 used Honda Accord 2006 Model with chassis no. (IHGCM564867090155).


SOKOTO/KEBBI/ZAMFARA COMMAND UNCOVERS NEW SMUGGLING METHODS - Scenario 2

Similarly, another Mitsubishi Canter with Reg: No. XA 683 TSF carrying cow dung (Manure) was arrested by the Command’s Roving Team B, along Kamba Road in Kebbi State. Examination further revealed that the Canter was loaded with 37 bales of second cloths.

The CAC used the medium to warn smugglers that Customs is always a step ahead of them and call on them to imbibe legitimate trading.

So sad!As of Thursday,2 of the victims of IDP camp misfire admitted in hospital were confirmed dead.Maiduguri Hospitals discharged 5 while 73 are still hospitalized.

Borno State Gov HE Gov Kashim Shettima prayed for the soul of the two that died when he visited the victims in the hospital.

NIGERIAN ARMY TO GIVE N500,000 CASH REWARD FOR INFORMATION ON SUICIDE BOMBERS

The spate of suicide bombings in the North East and in particular, Maiduguri and Madagali metropolis is assuming a disturbing proportion.

Consequently, the Nigerian Army is offering a reward of the sum of N500,000 for any information that leads to the arrest of a suicide bomber, the guide to the suicide bomber, or discovery of the transit house or factory of the suicide bombers.

The offer by the Nigerian Army  is to further encourage law abiding citizens to actively join the war against terrorists and our collective security. The following numbers are available for immediate response:
