Education › Re: Nigerian Parents Pay For Their Kids To Learn British Accent by Sarang(f): 12:41pm On Feb 27, 2018 |
chukxie: I see nothing wrong in children learning to speak standard English with the accent ( RP - Received Pronunciation ). I'd pay for my kid to speak standard English too if my kids were in Nigeria, and weren't speaking standard English. I know some people here will disagree with me and it's fine if you do but truth is there are lots and lots of words we pronounce wrongly in Nigeria. This anomaly is as a result of the decay in our education sector. The likes of Prof Wole Soyinka, Chinua Achebe and a host of other globally recognised prolific writers and speakers all spoke standard English even before venturing overseas because back in the days the standard of education was very high. It's imperative that we bring back that standard. It's also imperative that students learn to speak standard English so they can communicate effectively with their peers in the West and the world at large. I agree with you. Nothing wrong with speaking good English at all. It's their choices. The kids might still know how to speak Pidgin, Igbo, Yoruba or Hausa too. No need getting mad here! |

Gofwane: I don't know how to go and greet people when they are sick or when someone dies.
I hate being told what to do. If i'm about to do a thing and you approach me to tell me to do that same thing, i won't do it just to show you that you can't control me
I go out of my way and comfort to help people
I can spend a whole day without laughing. Not because i'm a sadist but because I've seen so many shii in life to the extent that most things don't look funny anymore. You are so so like me except the last one. I laugh all the time, so much so that people hardly know that I get sad at times.. Like a defense mechanism |

Bifrost: Lol. I'll Stay woke! Well... actually the only thing I love about the Brits is their accent. I can never spend my money to get a UK degree even with full scholarship.
It's crazy, really. And I really pity those on self-sponsorship. UK is really milking foreign students dry through outrageous fees! Don't worry about their accent, go to Canada, Canadians equally speak like them.. |

My passport will be expiring next year.
I am just wondering if it's possible to get one at home and courier it here, if this is legal or to apply instead at Ottawa. Also is it a must that I will be physically present in Ottawa? Can they not just send it to my home address? I live in Saskatchewan
Someone please answer me. |
