Thanks for sharing your story, I had advised d someone here to do the same but she insisted on using the existing B1/2 rather than update to B2 (change of intent) . You can’t outsmart these people, honesty is key so you don’t get tangled in subsequent applications. aamey15: Long post alert, Success story
Its been a while since I posted on this platform but I think my story might help someone with this visa palava we are all experiencing. I will try to make it short( I hope so). So after my dilemma with reapplying for a B2 visa even though I had a valid B1B2 visa( you can read my previous posts) , we eventually applied for B2 but selected the interview waiver and due to the ban for some reason it wasn’t a great option. Anyway my husband felt it was best to email the embassy asking for what to do considering we had used the current visa for visiting (which was the purpose of applying initially) and it is still valid till December 2019. Well we didn’t get a response from the embassy for a whole month and I had lost hope because I was scared to travel. After a month I got an email from the embassy saying my visa wasn’t valid for birth travel at the time because that wasn’t the intent of it being issued to us and I had to visit embassy within a week for a new interview with my doctors appointment, proof of payment if any, receipts of previous births, budget sheet, bank statement. So I visited the embassy and had an interview with the VO, bear in mind the embassy was empty that day apparently they had to cancel all appointments but luckily I had a prescheduled one so I was let in. I had to wait for about 45mins and was the only candidate in the embassy but a lady came in not too long after. I assure you I was terrified. VO: Good day, sorry for keeping you waiting Me: No problem VO: Thank you for visiting the embassy. We asked to see you today Me: Yes, I have a valid B1/B2 visa which I have used for travel but I intend to deliver and I contacted the embassy on what to do VO: We appreciate your honesty. The reason we asked to see you is to know if you have the financial capacity to pay your bills and if you do may I see the proof Me: Yes I do, I handed him my Bank statement as well as my Budget sheet. Then he starts going through the statement line by line ,from the name on the statement to the movement of cash, to the last page, maybe checking to confirm if I just put a huge cash in it I really don’t know but he spent more than 5 minutes on the statement VO: What is the current balance on your account and who is ********* ME: I told him and the person he asked for is my husband… because he had seen frequent cash movement between the both of us VO: Is this a joint account ME: No its my personal account, I receive my salaries, profit sharing as well as monies from my husband in it VO: Does your husband still work with bla bla and what do you do ME: Yes he does and I work with bla bla VO: How did you come up with the budget sheet you presented? Me: I handed him the hospital I intend to use and the correspondence. My budget sheet was about 18k VO: What pregnancy is this one and how many kids do you have Me: This is my fourth pregnancy but I have 2 kids ( I guess he was just trying to reconfirm the information we had given at our previous interviews) VO: Okay After a few minutes of writing and going through all the documents he says okay you are free to go Me : Shocked because I was expecting a new visa or So, Does that mean I am okay to travel and I will not have issues at POE VO: Yes, your details have been updated, have a safe delivery Me: Thank you and I ran out..literally I spent about 20 minutes with him or so but I tried to cut the story short. My opinion on what worked for me, honesty I tell you, even though I had a valid visa I didn’t want to jeopardize the opportunity given and bear in mind I had used the visa for its intent which was to travel for summer last year with the kids and the previous VO had stated that I had to inform the embassy if I was to travel for birth. It was a big gamble because I could have just used it like that and have issues at renewal in the future or maybe POE.
By the way my POE experience was so smooth ( I used ATL) the guy was even gisting with me asking if it was my first child and what sex I was having. Also asked how much money i had on me i had 8k dolls cash and about the same in my card. Stamped me in for 6 months. I just went to carry my bag and zoomed off to my connecting flight. No bag was checked nothing I hope this is helpful to someone thank you |

B2 is specifically medical and you’re supposed to state that clearly these days. You pick B1/2 and specify B2 below it. And since she already has B1/2 she should mail the VO and take it from there. I hope she makes that intention clear before she departs. TWoods: Will this consent form be sealed by you or the person delivering on your behalf? It is never advisable to fly internationally with any package you did not seal yourself. That’s one of the first questions you will be asked at screening. |

PLEASE don’t go jejely, inform the embassy of your intention, I believe you can do so by email (can someone confirm this?) besides VO being strict POE is also very strict, these days if they see that your previous visa was B1/2 and you changed without informing the VO in Nigeria they might keep you much longer interrogating and questioning you if not satisfied or can even cancel your visa. The best if for them to see a comment from the VO that you sent an email than nothing at all. Remember your visa expires in January that is a RED flag As you travel ensure you have you confirmed doctors appointment letter, hospital, accommodation & At least some POF on you. I hope this helps. Best wishes Blink2: Please house, I really do not know if this is the right way to ask a question in a thread. I need advice.
I have US Visa expiring Jan (did renewal in 2018 jan) however I have used this visa twice last year for casual trips prior to having a bun in the oven. What do you advice, as I am due in the first week of December and just got married. Hubby does not have a visa at this time and I intend to use a reputable hospital. My worries are no more change of intent letter, reappearance at the embassy et al. Should I just travel and come back with a clean bill? |

Yes IOM in Abuja does, I was a few weeks pregnant when we went for medicals, they will talk to you and still ask you to confirm if you’re comfortable going ahead with the X-ray. Congratulations sayveetwice: Thanks for your reply Maam. Do you know if IOM provides this kind of protective cover? I heard q life won't go ahead with the medcal until baby is in 6 months plus prolly because they don't have the shielding/cover. |

Please always state the intention of your travel. If your wife intends to have a baby that’s what you must state in your application to avoid stories that touch. Good luck scorpio1: Greetings @hotstepper, sent you an email since, was expecting a reply... Thanks to all the honest people that have shared their experiences here. Finally, I have made up mind to start application for wifey, she's 4months gone, I was thinking of applying for her alone but on a second thought, I think I will apply to travel with her (intended date of travel is 27th September) Should we both apply as tourists or should I specify she is going to give birth while I want to accompany her. Please a detailed guidance will be appreciated. Thank you. |

So sorry about your experience, like I always advice US interview is not one size fits all, the VOs have the prerogative to decline anyone a visa based on how they PERCEIVE your response and believe me it wasn’t based on the amount of your hospital bill. Ive heard people say if you pay less than 10k you will be rejected or if you got a discount you will be denied, well let me mention here that when I applied for mine I categorically told the VO I paid about 10k for my first baby and I got discounts because I paid cash and I still got my B2 visa. Don’t reapply soon, give sometime hopefully you will meet another VO who will approve your visa. Best of luck. kamee: hello house, so i went to to renew my visa by drop box but i and my family (myself, hubby, and 2 daughters but the last is a citizen and ther was no one to leave her with) but we were asked to reschedule and appear. so fast forward to the vo asking question
VO - where are you going in the us and why WE - florida for holiday about 2-3 weeks VO - what do you do I - business and explains VO - faces hubby with same question HUBBY - work at a corporate office with detail VO - types and starts murmuring looks like he couldn't find any error on our document VO- turns to the baby and ask why she was not an applicant I - she's a citizen vo - can i have your receipts and did you inform the embassy of your intent we - yes we did and handed the intent later along side receipt and told him a total of $7500 bill was fully paid vo - so you got a discount we - no we did not, there's a zero bal inside the envelope stating we paid all there was VO - why did you get a discount I - was furious but kept my cool and said againg that there was no discount VO - kept insisting about the discount (infact mention it 3 times) like his mind was made up about the discount and asked what state we had the child VO - looks up and said NJ birthing bill was usually $17,000 so paying $7,500 was dicounted VO - -hands over the blue paper
you see, all we incured including uber, housing, feeding, scan, blood works etc was totalling $15,000. should we have added all these expenses as birthing?. When the hospital billed us as self payfor 2 nights should i have asked them to increase my bill? I really need closure to this rejection. if he had said that we did not make our intent clear from the time of application, that would have been understood. Hubby says we should move on and try uk cos we want to take the kids on vaca but i want to explore the usa more since that is where my business is sourced from. and i also feel that if we do not clear the air about this discount, we would keep facing it or what do you think guys? Do we stand a chance if we re-apply? |

Must you comment? If you don’t have anything constructive to contribute to the discussion why not leave it. Some responses on this platform can be down right rude & uncalled for why do you want to sound so insensitive ? Hahahahaha the distance alone sef to go from Maryland is enough $$$! Please check other hospitals in Maryland am sure you’ll find something cheaper MamaOO: Yeah the ad has been up there for years. But the blatant advert is just so unnecessary. Imagine someone asking for circumcision in Maryland. Maryland oh! And you’re quoting to give her prices in Texas and not even Houston or Dallas, El Paso! Que??!
So she’s supposed to travel from Maryland to circumcise her son in Texas? This is actually very funny. |

Do you live in Abuja? There’s a car park & its free, besides 4am is too early. You leave home at 6:30-7am, everyone gets in at the same time once the embassy opens (7:30), even if your appointment is for 9am, as long as you have an appointment. PS: Not sure how it works in Lagos if you live there. whalleh: Hello house, Can anyone advise if there's a car park around US embassy where I can park my car early in the morning?
