The Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Abdulrasheed Bawa, on Tuesday said the commission will from June 1 be demanding the asset declaration forms of bankers.

He said the decision was in line with the provisions of the Bank, Employees Declaration of Asset Act.

Bawa disclosed this in an interview with State House correspondents after a meeting he had with the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.).

The EFCC boss said he was working hard towards creating a new commission that will be different in the way it handles cases.

He said he would do his job to ensure that Nigeria is free of financial crimes.

He said, “We understood that at the tail end of every financial crime, it is for the criminal to have access to the funds that he or she has illegitimately acquired and we are worried about the roles of financial institutions.

“We have discussed, but we hope that all financial institutions, particularly the bankers, will declare their assets as provided for by the law, in accordance with the Bank, Employees Declaration of Asset Act.

“The EFCC, come June 1, 2021, will be demanding for this asset declaration forms, filled by the bankers so that the line that we have drawn from June 1 is really complied with by bankers in particular.”

President Muhammadu Buhari and the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF), Abubakar Malami, have declared support for the argument that the law permits the Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, to remain in office till 2023 or 2024.

They contended that the President is allowed by law to extend the IGP’s tenure as he wishes.

President Buhari and the AGF’s position on the suit, adopting in full Mr Adamu’s earlier argument on the crucial issue of how long an IGP can remain in office, is contained in their joint reply filed Monday.

PREMIUM TIMES obtained the joint reply of the President and the AGF shortly after the suit had another mention in court on Tuesday.

The plaintiff, Maxwell Opara, an Abuja-based lawyer, had sued the President, Mr Adamu, the AGF, and the Nigeria Police Council (NPC) as the 1st to the 4th defendants in the suit which was instituted on February 3.

It remains the NPC among the four defendants that has yet to reply the suit.

As of Tuesday, Mr Adamu, has spent half of the three months extended tenure which was announced on February 4.

‘Why Adamu can remain IGP till 2023 or 2024’

Mr Adamu had, through his lead counsel, Alex Izinyon, a senior lawyer, argued essentially in his response filed on March 8, that his tenure never lapsed on February 1 as argued by the plaintiff. www.nairaland.com/attachments/13249315_linksolid_png67cb6d025d0bdb60c4a817d79e1aa456

Arguing on the issue of whether Mr Adamu, who was appointed the IGP on January 15, 2019, is prevented from staying in office beyond February 1, 2021, Mr Izinyon contended that the tenure of the IGP is not governed by the general provisions applicable to the rest of the police force.

The senior lawyer said by virtue of the relevant laws, the office of the IGP is “quasi-political” and “is conferred with a special status” and “distinct from other officers of the Nigeria Police Force.”

He said the provision of “section 18( of the Nigeria Police Act, 2020 to the effect that ‘Every police officer shall, on recruitment or appointment, serve in the Nigeria Police Force for a period of 35 years or until he attains the age of 60 years, whichever is earlier,’ is with due respect, inapplicable to the office of the Inspector General of Police in the circumstance.”

He said the IGP upon appointment “is only accountable to the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the Nigeria Police Council and this fact we submit makes his office a quasi-political office with a tenure of four (4) years pursuant to Section 7(6) of the Nigeria Police Act, 2020.”

According to him, by the combined effect of Sections 215 and 216 of the Nigerian Constitution and Section 7 of the Nigeria Police Act, 2020, Mr Adamu “can validly function as the Inspector General of Police atter midnight of February 1, 2021 in so far as he was a serving member of the Nigeria Police Force during the period of his appointment.”

He said the four years tenure of his client stipulated under section 7(6) of the Nigeria Police Act, 2020, would end either in 2023 or 2024.

“Therefore, if the 2nd defendant’s tenure in office is calculated from January 15, 2019 when he was appointed into the office of the Inspector General of Police, his tenure lapse in 2023.

“However, if his tenure in office is calculated from 2020 when the Nigeria Police Act, 2020 came into force. his tenure in office ends in 2024,” Mr Izinyon stated.

Buhari, AGF adopt IGP’s argument

In their joint response to the suit, the President and Mr Malami said they totally adopted these points made by Mr Izinyon in his paragraphs 1.18 to 1.49 of his written address in opposition to Mr Opara’s suit.

Their joint response filed on their behalf by a lawyer in the AGF’s office, Maimuna Shiru, stated that they would be relying on the argument by the IGP’s lawyer in answering the question of “Whether the President is empowered to extend the tenure of the Inspector General of Police.”

“My Lord on the above issue, it is our position that we will be relying and aligning with the argument canvassed by the 2nd defendant’s (IGP’s) counsel as their Issue Two in paragraphs 1.18 to 1.49 of their written address and we shall be adopting same as ours and urge this honourable court to uphold our argument and dismiss the plaintiff’s case as same is frivolous,” their written address read in part.

In the affidavit filed in support of the suit, they stated that the Nigerian Constitution conferred the President with executive power to “appoint serving police officer as the Inspector-General of Police in consultation with Police Council.”

They said neither the Nigeria Police Council or the Police Service Commission, both bodies with measures of regulatory controls over disciplinary, recruitment and appointments in the police force, “have not disclosed any contrary fact that the 2nd defendant is not a serving police officer.”

‘Adamu’s remains serving police officer’

Arguing another issue in their written address, the President and the AGF argued also that the plaintiff “has failed to discharge the legal burden of proof that the 2nd defendant is not a serving police officer for the purposes of extension of his tenure in office.”

The affidavit added, “That question if the 2nd defendant is still a serving police officer is a question of fact.

“That it is a fact that the Nigeria Police Act 2020 is a subsidiary legislation passed by the National Assembly.

“That it is a fact that the appointment of an Inspector-General of Police is by the Constitution conferred on the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”

In their concluding comment in their written address, they urged the court “to dismiss this suit and uphold our argument in support of the view that the case of the plaintiff is frivolous, unmeritorious and undeserving of the time of this honourable court’s attention.”

They also urged the court to award “heavy cost” cost against the plaintiff.

Hearing, adjournment

The suit had another mention before the judge, Ahmed Mohammed, on Tuesday.

Although the plaintiff was physically present, his lawyer, Ezekiel Ugochukwu, presented his case on his behalf.

The President and the AGF were represented by Ekene Elodimuo, while Mr Adamu was represented by Mr Izinyon.

The NPC was not represented by any lawyer.

The judge said the matter could not proceed to hearing because NPC had not been properly served.

Mr Mohammed said the argument by the plaintiff’s lawyer that the service of the NPC through the President’s office as the head of the NPC could not be considered as a proper service.

This is coupled with the fact that the plaintiff sought to file a further response to the President and AGF’s joint reply to the suit.

The judge then adjourned the case till March 30 for hearing.

Suit

Mr Adamu had attained the maximum 35 years in service on February 1, but President Buhari, through the Minister of Police Affairs, Mohammad Dingyadi, announced the three-month extension of Mr Adamu’s tenure on February 4.

PREMIUM TIMES reported that Mr Opara, an Abuja-based lawyer, who had expected Mr Adamu to vacate office on February 1, filed his suit on February 3 to challenge the tenure extension.

Mr Opara contended in his suit that by virtue of section 215 of the Nigerian Constitution and section 7 of the Nigeria Police Act, 2020, Mr Adamu could not validly continue to function as the IGP having retired as a police officer as from midnight of February 1, 2021.

He prayed for, among others, an order directing Mr Adamu to stop functioning as the IGP.

He asked the court to hold that the failure of Mr Buhari and the NPC to name a new IGP on February 1, when Mr Adamu was said to have completed his tenure, amounted to abdication of duty.

He also urged the court to compel President Buhari and the NPC to immediately appoint a new IGP.

Imo State had the highest percentage of unemployed people in Nigeria in the fourth quarter of 2020, retaining a position it held in the second quarter, the National Bureau of Statistics said in its latest labour force report.

Imo was followed by Adamawa and Cross River States. The three states recorded 56.6 per cent, 54.9 per cent and 53.7 per cent unemployment rates respectively. Yobe, Akwa Ibom and Rivers completed the top six.

At more than half the total number of the economically active populations, the rates reveal a shocking degree of unemployment in a country that suffered two recessions in the last five years.

They also show that growth and improvements in people-centred policies at the subnational level of government have been mostly insignificant.

Imo led the pack in the second quarter, with Akwa Ibom and Rivers following. Their rates then were much lower at 48.7 per cent, 45.2 and 43.7 per cent respectively.

Trailing the three states at that time were Delta with 40.3 per cent; Kaduna, 39.8 per cent; and Taraba 39.4 per cent. Abia was the seventh-highest.

While Kaduna, Delta and Taraba improved by the fourth quarter, Imo, Akwa Ibom and Rivers remained in the top six, joined this time by Adamawa, Cross River and Yobe.

The states with the lowest rates were Osun, Benue and Zamfara. They recorded 11.66 per cent, 11.98 per cent and 12.99 per cent respectively.

Wealth Crisis

The Nigerian economy has faced a lingering crisis for years with inflation reaching a four-year high in February 2021.

The coronavirus pandemic that hit in 2020, slashing the country’s oil revenue and leading to businesses shutting down and laying off workers, made the situation worse.

The government predicted an unemployment rate of 33.6 per cent by the end of the year if something urgent was not done. The bureau of statistics said on Monday the national unemployment rate stood at 33.3 per cent in the fourth quarter, just a bit lower than the forecast.

Imo, Akwa Ibom and Rivers are amongst the country’s richest states, benefitting from monthly oil derivation revenues that should give the three states relative advantage.

However, unemployment and poverty rates in those states have for years been consistently amongst the nation’s highest, an indictment on a political leadership that pays scant attention to real human capital development.

A May 2020 report by the NBS showed that in 2019 Rivers earned N140 billion, making it the second state with highest earning of internally generated revenue behind Lagos, the commercial capital of the country.

Delta was listed as the fifth-highest and Kaduna the sixth, earning N64 billion and N44 billion respectively. Akwa Ibom was on a distant 8th with N32 billion.

Chief Victor Babaremilekun Adetokunboh Fani-Kayode lived between 1921-1995. He held the Queen’s Counsel, Senior Advocate of Nigeria and Commander of the Order of the Niger titles. He was born on 22 December 1921 in Chelsea, England. He hailed from a prominent and widely read Yoruba family of Ile-Ife from the south-western part of Nigeria. His grandfather by the name of Reverend Emmanuel Adedapo Kayode was an Anglican Priest who got his Master of Arts degree from Fourah Bay College, an affiliate of Durham University. He acquired this in 1885. Remilekun’s father was Victor Adedapo Kayode, who studied law from Selwyn College, Cambridge in 1921, and called to the Middle Temple in 1922. Upon returning to the country, he became a prominent and well-sought lawyer and then a judge in Nigeria.

Chief Remilekun Fani-Kayode had his education at King’s College, Lagos before studying Law in Downing College at the University of Cambridge in 1941. He emerged the best student in his British Bar examinations for the whole of the British Commonwealth. Called to the British Bar at the Middle Temple in 1945, and later appointed as Queens Counsel in 1960. He became the third and youngest Nigerian ever to be made Queens Counsel. In 1977, he became the Senior Advocate of Nigeria, thus becoming the third Nigerian to become a SAN.

Alongside his friends i.e Chief Frederick Rotimi Williams, Chief Bode Thomas; he set up an indigenous Nigerian law firm in 1948. These friends received their law training at Cambridge and London University respectively. Their law firm was called “Thomas, Williams and Kayode”. He had another one in 1970, which was called “Fani-Kayode and Sowemimo”. Chief Sobo Sowemimo was his old friend.

Politically, Chief Remi Fani-Kayode played an important role in Nigeria. Firstly, his role in the struggle for Nigeria’s independence got him, Chief Rotimi Williams, Bode Thomas and a number of others arrested and detained by the British colonial authorities for his struggle against them in securing Nigeria’s independence. In 1954, he became the leader of the Action Group youth wing. He was very active as a youth leader thus setting up a symbolic shirt with a mosquito drawn on it. The mosquito-shirt showed their disdain for British colonial rule. He also got elected into the Federal House of Assembly on the platform of Chief Awolowo’s Action Group, from where he continued his fight for Nigeria’s independence.

He became the Assistant Federal Secretary of the Action Group and helped then Federal Secretary, Chief Ayo Rosiji in organizing and administrating the party. Alongside Chief Awolowo, S.O. Ighodaro, E.O. Eyo, Adeyemi Lawson, S.G. Ikoku, he represented the Action Group at the 1957 London Constitutional Conference. The conference became necessary to chart out the course of the country. He also fought for the Northern minorities during their quest for the creation of a middle belt region at the Willinks Minorities Commission.

In July 1958, Chief Remi Fani-Kayode moved the motion for Nigeria’s independence in the Federal House of Assembly. He later resigned from the Action Group party in 1959, joining the National Council of Nigeria and the Cameroons, an opposition party. In 1960, he was elected the leader of the NCNC in the Western House of Assembly before becoming the Deputy Premier of the old Western Region of Nigeria under Chief Samuel Akintola on the platform of NNDP. He got appointed as Minister for Local Government Affairs for the Western Region in that same year.

In the wee hours of 15 January 1966, a Nigerian Major, Kaduna Nzeogwu attempted the first military coup d’etat in the history of Nigeria. This led to a lot of bloodsheds where major political office holders got killed at gunpoint. Captain Emmanuel Nwobosi attacked the home of Chief Fani-Kayode, the Deputy Premier of the Western Region. He was brutalised in the presence of his family members before taken to an unknown destination. The mutineers, leaving no stone unturned, went to the Ibadan home of Chief S.L. Akintola, who was the Premier and murdered him in front of his family members. This killing happened before the eye of Chief Remilekun Fani-Kayode before taken to the military cantonment in Lagos where he was expected to be executed by them. Luckily, the mutineers were overpowered at the Ikeja cantonment and killed by the troops under the command of Lt. Col. Yakubu Gowon. The loyalists freed Fani-Kayode while keeping him in a safe house until they restored law and order in the nation.

He married Mrs Adia Adunni Fani-Kayode with whom he had five children: Akinola Adedapo Fani-Kayode, Rotimi Fani-Kayode, Femi Fani-Kayode, Mrs Toyin Bajela and Mrs Tolu Fanning. He had four children Mrs Aina Ogunbe, Mrs Remi Nana Akuffo-Addo, Tokunbo Fani-Kayode and Ladipo Fani-Kayode.

Only Remi Fani-Kayode and one Sir Kashim Ibrahim (the Governor of the Northern Region) were the only ones not killed out of the attacked civil and military personnel.

He later left Nigeria to settle down in Brighton in southeastern England before coming back home. In 1978, he was among the people that founded and pioneered the National Party of Nigeria. He was later elected to the Vice Chairman position and conferred with the Commander of the Order of the Niger by President Shehu Shagari.

He was also a member of the elder’s caucus of the National Republican Convention and spoke against the annulment of the June 12, 1993, election that saw Abiola emerging. He was among the Justice Kayode Eso panel of inquiry that helped the nation probe and sanitise the Nigerian judiciary and rid it of corrupt judges.

He died in 1995 at the age of 74. May his soul rest in peace.

Ahmed Indimi, son-in-law of the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd), has shared pictures of a white lion on the leash on social media with the caption “my new pet.”

It is not immediately clear if Mr. Indimi is in a petting zoo.

The white lion is a rare color mutation of the lion, specifically the Southern African lion, Wikipedia reports.

According to online portal, Travel & Leisure, only about a dozen white lions exist in the wild today.

Beware

At least six herders were killed when gunmen raided a settlement in Wasinmi village, Irewole Local Government Area of Osun State, on Saturday night.

Daily Trust gathered that immediately the gunmen stormed the Fulani settlement, they opened fire, killing six herders on the spot.

Our correspondent gathered that those killed are members of the same family.

The Police Public Relations Officer in Osun, Yemisi Opalola, confirmed the tragic incident, saying investigation is ongoing.

She said the Commissioner of Police in the State, Wale Olokode, has moved to the village and Police detectives are currently hunting the perpetrators of the act.

The PPRO described the incident as unfortunate and vowed that the culprits would be arrested and brought to book.

The development comes one week after four herders were gunned down during the invasion of a settlement in Ogborji, Orumba South Local Government Area of Anambra State.

Alhaji Gidado Siddiki, Chairman of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), South-East Zone, said many cows were stolen in the attack.

Siddiki added that over 20 Fulani herdsmen have been killed in Anambra alone from January to March, 2021.

Some gunmen before daybreak on Sunday killed six people in a village near Wasinmi, a community along Ife/Ibadan way, Osun State.

Jesus Christ the Son of God, the only Saviour of mankind and Messiah of God gave us clear, unmistakable descriptions of how things are in the kingdom of God by the use of short stories called parables.

As usual, my only authority is Jesus Christ because he’s the one we are commanded to listen to. Since the Bible is full of self-contradictions, the only wise response to Bible incongruities is limiting oneself to Jesus Christ for those who are desperate in their search for God and his kingdom.

1. The Parable of the Sower.

Mat 13:3 And he spake many things unto them in parables, saying, Behold, a sower went forth to sow;

Mat 13:4 And when he sowed, some seeds fell by the wayside, and the fowls came and devoured them up:

Mat 13:5 Some fell upon stony places, where they had not much earth: and forthwith they sprung up, because they had no deepness of earth:

Mat 13:6 And when the sun was up, they were scorched; and because they had no root, they withered away.

Mat 13:7 And some fell among thorns, and the thorns sprung up and choked them:

Mat 13:8 But others fell into good ground and brought forth fruit, some a hundredfold, some sixtyfold, some thirtyfold.

Mat 13:9 Who hath ears to hear, let him hear.

This is very straight forward: the sower is God and his children and the seed is the word of God (never mind ‘pastors’ who lie to us that seed is money); the “wayside” are those who receive the gospel but the devil (fowls of the air are demons) steals it from their hearts; the “stony places” are those who receive the gospel but lack roots or depth in themselves so are offended by trials and persecution that come due to the gospel; the “thorny ground” are those who receive the gospel but are carried away by the cares of this life while the “good soil” are those who receive the gospel and bear fruits according to their capacities.

So, it’s very clear here that everyone determines what sort of soil he becomes and there’s no mention of assistance in any way, shape or form from the sower to the soils. The decision to receive the gospel and how you fare with it is your sole responsibility; no grace or sacrifice is mentioned or implied here at all. Also noteworthy is that all the soils aren’t bad as we have been lied to by the scripture that condemns everyone as a sinner. Some people are not sinners according to Christ in this parable.

2. Parables of the Cross and Tower

Luk 14:26 If any man come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple.

Luk 14:27 And whosoever doth not bear his cross and come after me, cannot be my disciple.

Luk 14:28 For which of you, intending to build a tower, sitteth not down first, and counteth the cost, whether he have sufficient to finish it?

Luk 14:29 Lest haply, after he hath laid the foundation, and is not able to finish it, all that behold it begin to mock him,

Luk14:30 Saying, This man began to build and was not able to finish.

The above scripture passage is simply telling us of the costs of eternal life, that salvation is not by any grace as preached by Paul neither is it free of charge as believed by Christians! It also says very loud and clear that no one, not even Jesus Christ, is going to do anything on our behalf. So, whatever he did is an example for us to follow and do the same.

No sacrifice is mentioned or implied here. Whatever adversity we suffer in the name of God/Jesus Christ is a cross and that we must prayerfully bear ourselves. Jesus Christ bore his own cross, not ours!!

3. Good and Bad Trees

10 Even now the axe of God’s judgment is poised, ready to sever the roots of the trees. Yes, every tree that does not produce good fruit will be chopped down and thrown into the fire

Trees represent human beings in scriptures. It’s also crystal clear again that it’s the bad tree that gets cut down and thrown into the fire, not the good ones and there’s no sacrifice or vicarious assistance provided to save bad trees from being cut and fed into the fire. All the trees aren’t bad as we have been taught from childhood, some trees are actually good and fruitful. The righteous exist, though in precious little minority.

4. The Threshing Floor

Matthew 3:12

12 He is ready to separate the chaff from the wheat with his winnowing fork. Then he will clean up the threshing area, gathering the wheat into his barn but burning the chaff with never-ending fire.”

Here, Jesus Christ tells us the nature of his judgement as well as the fact of the existence of righteous or good people. Everything on the floor isn’t chaff and the wheat won’t be burnt together with the chaff. The wheat became wheat by itself and the chaff became chaff by itself, no sacrifice was required to make the wheat become wheat.

As in Mk 4:26-28, we become whatever we elect to become by ourselves. God doesn’t interfere at all. We get saved or damned on our own accounts. If one wants to be righteous, let him ask God for the ability. This is the message of Jesus Christ, any other contrary message from Paul or anyone else is to be rejected completely.

5. Two Foundations

Matt. 7:24-29

24 “Anyone who listens to my teaching and follows it is wise, like a person who builds a house on solid rock. 25 Though the rain comes in torrents and the floodwaters rise and the winds beat against that house, it won’t collapse because it is built on bedrock. 26 But anyone who hears my teaching and ignores it is foolish, like a person who builds a house on sand. 27 When the rains and floods come and the winds beat against that house, it will collapse with a mighty crash.”

Jesus Christ implies in this parable that whereas some people won’t obey or live by his words, some others would and that whereas those who live by his words would withstand life’s trials and God’s final judgement, those who don’t live by his words won’t. There’s no mention of sacrifice or any other construct which would save those who don’t live by Jesus’ words neither does Jesus Christ say here that he’d enable some people by his grace to live by his teachings and not enable some others, etc. as in Paul’s ungodly doctrine of partiality which states that God capriciously decides to favour some people and not to favour some others. Paul usually creates a construct without basis in God which leads him to present God as a mystery because he is unable to support his ungodly position with facts.

6. Two Classes of People

Mat 9:12 But when Jesus heard that, he said unto them, They that be whole need, not a physician, but they that are sick.

Mat 9:13 But go ye and learn what that meaneth, I will have mercy, and not sacrifice: for I am not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.

How much more obvious would a thing be? How much more tautological and down to earth would Jesus Christ be for us to understand his teachings? If I would be treated precisely as my Lord and Master Jesus Christ was treated, what then did he do on my behalf? The truth is that he set examples for us to follow and do the very things he did. He didn’t do things so we don’t have to do them again as the sacrifice and grace doctrine teaches.

The explanation of this parable is within it. The General Overseer of Pentecostal Sanctuary Bible Ministries (PSBM), Ijebu Ode, Ogun State, Pastor Sunday Dare Iyunade has called on those calling for the disintegration of the country to shelve the idea, rather, they should work for the unity and progress of the country.

Iyunade said any part of the country that attempts to secede from the country would do so at its own peril, saying that God has not approved such a move.

The man of God stated this as part of the prophecy for the country while addressing newsmen in Ijebu Ode, as parts of activities to mark the 25th anniversary of the church and the 19th annual convention slated to hold between March, Sunday 21 to 28.

He explained that “God revealed to him that if any tribe be it Igbo, Yoruba or Hausa tries to breakaway, their places of abode would become history”.

The cleric argued that the strength of Nigeria lies in its unity in diversity, adding that the country is better as one united nation than being divided.

In his view, “the agitation for the breakup of Nigeria will only spell doom for the country and those behind the idea, saying “any group or region that attempt to secede is fighting a losing battle”.

On the state of the nation, the man of God called on President Mohammadu Buhari to fight insecurity, corruption, and other challenges confronting the country with all the seriousness they deserved.

He said, “the wall of security of the country has fallen, Nigerians must pray for new strategies to fight insecurity so that the security situation will not be worse than this”.

According to him, the solution to the country’s problems lies in prayer, saying Nigerians, irrespective of their religious affiliations must pray to God for divine intervention.

The popular pastor warned that the All Progressives Congress (APC) may disintegrate if the leadership of the party fail to correct their errors and fulfill their campaign promises to Nigerians.

He noted that, for APC to avert the looming crisis, the party must do the will of the people otherwise, “Nigerians may turn against the party” and this according to the cleric may lead to the end of the party.

“During the APC campaign in 2015, they made a pronouncement that they should be driven away with stones if they fail to perform, I forsee that their words may come to pass”, the cleric said.

He said Nigerians should however not despair as God has turned to the country to cause a turn around saying “God has heard the cry of his people, a new leader will emerge but I don’t know when it will happen, God will remove the enemies of Nigeria for new leadership”.

Iyunade said that the 19th annual convention of the church with the theme “The Lord Cometh” is to further create awareness on the second coming of Jesus Christ and get the people more prepared.

He said as part of activities marking the 25 years anniversary of the church, the church is also donating one collapsible ambulance stretcher and two electronic suction machines to the Ijebu Ode State Hospital, a 3.5KVA generator to the school for the physically challenged, as well as one guitar, trumpet, cartons of soaps, toothbrushes, toothpaste among others to the Correctional Home, Ijebu Ode.

The Office of the National Security Adviser on Friday denied that funds for arms procurement have gone missing under the former Service Chiefs.

The BBC’s Hausa Service had earlier reported that the NSA, Major-General Babagana Monguno, hinted at the missing funds during an interview.

“No one knows what happened to the money, but by God’s grace, the president will investigate to find out where it went or where the goods went,” the General reportedly said in Hausa.

But the ONSA said his comments had been quoted out of context “as he did not categorically say that funds meant for arms procurement were missing under the Former Service Chiefs as reported or transcribed by some media outlets from the BBC interview.”

Instead, the ONSA statement said, Monguno had “only reiterated the Federal Government’s commitment to deal decisively with insecurity and stated President Muhammadu Buhari’s continued commitment to provide all necessary support to the Armed Forces, including the provision of arms and equipment.”

The statement stressed that the NSA had “clearly informed the BBC reporter that Mr President has provided enormous resources for arms procurement, but the orders were either inadequate or yet to be delivered and that did not imply that the funds were misappropriated under the former Service Chiefs.

“The NSA also informed the reporter that, Mr President is following up on the procurement process as is usual with contracts relating to military equipments, in most cases the process involves manufacturing, due diligence and tedious negotiations that may change delivery dates.”

Nigeria has been ravaged with a number of security problems, including insurgency in the North-East, banditry across the North-West and ethnic tensions in the South.

President Muhammadu Buhari has ordered the nation’s newly appointed security chiefs to effect radical changes within six weeks.

The Presidency has said no fund was missing under the watch of the immediate past service chiefs, adding that procurements have been made for military weapons but the arms were yet to be delivered.

According to Garba Shehu, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, missing funds can’t happen under the regime of the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.).

Shehu spoke on Friday on Channels Television’s ‘Politics Today’, monitored by The PUNCH,

The PUNCH had earlier reported that the National Security Adviser to the President, Maj.-Gen Babagana Monguno (retd.), said some funds meant for the purchase of arms to strengthen the country’s anti-terror war got missing under the leadership of the ex-service chiefs.

The ex-service chiefs are Chief of Defence Staff, General Abayomi Olonisakin (retd.); Chief of Army Staff, Lt-Gen. Tukur Buratai (retd.); Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Ibok Ekwe Ibas (retd.); and Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar (retd.).

“No one knows what happened to the money but by God’s grace, the president will investigate to find out whether the money was spent and where the arms went,” the NSA had said in an interview with BBC Hausa on Friday.

But speaking hours later also on Friday, Shehu said the NSA was misquoted, stressing that Monguno did not accuse the ex-service chiefs of misappropriation of funds.

He said, “About the $1bn taken from the Excess Crude Account with the consent of state governors used for military procurements, I want to assure you that nothing of that money is missing.

“The reference by it in the interview of the BBC Hausa Service by the National Security Adviser has been misconstrued and mistranslated.

“NSA made two critical points –one is that we don’t have enough weapons which is a statement of facts; and two procurements made have not been fully delivered.”

“At no point did the NSA say that money has been misappropriated and that no arms is seen. They have not been delivered, that is correct; these are things you don’t get off the shelves,” Shehu noted.
