True True. . .  They used to be quite a physical team.
But their game was not built on deliberate incapacitation.
Used to be? grin grin grin grin grin
How did Arsenal win their last major trophy? grin cheesy

THEY COULD ACTUALLY PLAY.
Many of these teams can't play, and the stakes are no excuse.
How did they get promoted if they cannot play?
When Arsenal players went after Evra last season after his MEN VS BOYS remark. . .Did United complain Arsenal players set out to injure him?
I smell hypocrisy from you bloody LOSERS. Karma is a biaaaaaaaaatch and maybe, maybe Ramsey deserved what he got.

They are the ones telling the players whether or not to go out and break their opponents leg  grin grin grin
Arsene "The Saint" Wenger is a bloody hypocrite.
Under his stewardship, his players have copped more than 80 Red Cards setting out to break opponents' legs.
He is a foreigner and he deploys more foreign players so the whole British theory schitzo is nonsensical.

Those RVP clips don't really cement the arguement
It does cos some retards are arguing here that teams set out to injure Arsenal players.
I am now asking if RVP set out to injure the players in the clips deliberately. Is it even rational for anyone to think Tony Pulis would tell his lads to go on the pitch and ensure they break legs?

doyin13:
But how comes many of these European teams don't adopt a do or die attitude
when it comes to European competitions.
What is at stake in European competitions?

How come Lille for example doesn't deem it necessary to hack the English players
legs off to get more of that C-league money.
A relegated team from the EPL makes more money than the winners of UCL.
There are rough European teams as well. The way you hacks are debating. . . .One would think RED CARDS are not bandied in Europe for dangerous tackles. Check out Axel Witsel's tackle on Youtube.

Au contraire. . .you actually hear the English commentators chastising the English
teams for letting Europeans ''play their game''. I presume they mean its not the
English way to pass and move.
Defending is part of the game. . . . .
Maybe FIFA should remove defenders from the game.
Change the game to 5-a-side with no goalie so 5 strikers can play 5 strikers to suit Arsene Wenger. grin cheesy

Its a cultural thing in England. They are the ones who do not recognise its a different
era. They think its still the an epoch of muddy pitches and quasi boxing referees.
And yet their teams continue to dominate European teams.

kay_pumpin:
Maybe you should go watch the match again and see what this same "thug" called Shawcross did to Adebayor while he was trying to guard the ball for a throw-in. . . talk about selective amnesia from a bloody prancer.
Coming from a fan of a team that had Vieira. . . . . .This is priceless!!!
U know how many RED CARDS Vieira copped under Wenger? grin

Ofcourse only a doofus with a chip-sized brain should justify such a tackle. And Wenger has every right to say what he said as this is becoming a "trend".You only have to listen to the Allardyce,Pulis and Davies of this world to know this so called innocuous challenges MAY be pre-conceived.Or what do you think will be he end product of getting "physical" and "roughening up those moaners from Emirate" ?
As if Arsenal players don't roughen up their opponents as well.
Did Van Persie not try to blind Stoke's goalie with a dangerous kick last season in the same fixture?
I guess he set out deliberately to injure an opponent as well.
Bloody hypocrites.

Well. . .this is where Dayokanu's crusade against English teams and their league has relevance.
Dayokanu is a drunkard.
The English league is the best in Europe. UEFA ranking is the pointer.

It is this approach to football that still has people put off by some aspects of the Premier League.
Many of these midlevel teams have bigger budgets than say Sporting Lisbon for example but that
doesn't stop the latter from playing football and developing quality.
That is not the point.
Sporting Lisbon are in Portugal competing with other mediocre teams with no significant difference in team quality.
Stoke, Birmingham and Hull are in the Premier League competing with Man Utd and Chelsea.

Lack of money does not excuse them from developing good football teams rather than
transform into rugby exponents.
There's a huge gap between Man Utd and Stoke.
One club can shop with £90 million to buy players where Stoke's transfer budget in a season is not even £20 million.
How else do you expect them to play? Tip-tap? Play into the hands of United and get pasted 6-0 then relegate? grin grin grin grin

The money at stake here in England has made that choice difficult.
Survival is the KEY.
If Sporting Lisbon were here, they would do worse than Stoke or Burnley with £40 million TV money at stake.
In cup competitions, there's nothing at stake and this is why you can see Leeds coming to OT to beat United or Burnley sodomising Arsenal.

When Ipswich was qualifying for Europe a few years back, they did it playing football and not
trying to hinder the other team by handicapping them.
Different era ma friend.

I think teams do actually.

Maybe not to injure his players, but that is ultimately the result
if you set out to, ''go about them'' or ''rough them up a bit''.
Mid-table teams do what they can to survive in the Premiership.
Of course, they don't have the same quality as Arsenal so they play to their own strength.
If roughening up is the way to survive, by all means let them do it.

The Brits actually love em tackles. A derby without tackles ain't considered to be a good one.

I have seen fools running red lights and getting away with it. . . .does it justify when a maniac does so and kills or permanently injures someone?
Sometimes you lose all ability to make rational arguments.
Stop talking like a retard.
No one is justifying the tackle. . . . .I am disagreeing with Wenger saying teams set out to injure his players.

The issue here is not whether the tackle was 'intentional' or not - Shawcross' leg did not rise of its own accord and strike Ramsey, neither did Ramsey see Shawcross' leg there and decide to ram his shin into it.
The tackle is AWFUL and UNACCEPTABLE. Whether 'intended' or not, it should NOT BE ALLOWED IN ANY GAME.
Has it ever been allowed in the game?
Shawcross made the tackle and he got a RED card for it. . . .So what silly allowance are you talking about?

Till these types of actions start getting punished with more than mere 3 game bans, the same punishment for slapping an opponent who isn't even injured, then these types of tackles will continue to happen.
Because people aren't killed everytime someone drives drunk is no reason to permit such risky behaviour and the same logic holds in this case.
So they should give players 12 months ban for a tackle made without any evil intention because Ramsey got crocked?
What a toad!!!!!

@Sauron
I know you get high on your own dosage of sophistry but pray tell how can someone with no return date on his injury be in and out of a team? undecided
Davis has been in and out of the team since the injury. He recently injured the same ankle again and he's now out with no return date.
Reports claim Gallas' tackle weeks ago was responsible for the off n on pains in his ankle.

Believe me,being high on nasal hair follicles is better than someone who posts rubbish like he's cranio-pagusly conjoined with a mule.
What am i saying, you are here making a case for a bad tackle when even the opposing players today were all evidently freaked out and the atmosphere on the pitch afterwards was palpably grievious.
Nonsense  angry
The player has been punished. . . . He got a straight RED for it.

U are a disgrace!!!!

Real injury my backside. . . . . .We must assume this is the first time such an injury would occur in the history of the EPL.
Arsenal fans and their moronic perspective. Was the foul intentional? NO!!!!
Is it even remotely possible for 22 players kicking the ball about not to kick each other in a freakish accident?

Such tackles should be CONDEMNED. I don't buy this 'never got a red card' nonsense.
If someone kills someone the defence can hardly be 'he's never killed before'
Whether the foul was intentional or not, it was reckless, dangerous and downright unacceptable.
Take Shawcross to court for GBH!!!

U must be high on your nasal hair follicles.
Everyone has agreed it was a bad tackle but for Arsenal manager to be saying players set out to injure Arsenal players is a disgrace.
Tackles have always been part of this game. It will still happen and it will always happen.

When the same team has experienced the nearly the same kind of injures 3 times over a spate of 5 years, don't you think they have a reason to raise eye brow and feel victimized?
They don't. . . . . . . .

I won't be surprised if excuses are not being prepped for this incident.

"Arsenal lost the title because Shawcross broke Ramsey's shin.
The injury got to Ramsey's team-mates and they were emotionally and psychologically damaged to make any genuine title challenge.
If they had Ramsey in the first team for the last 10 games, Arsenal woulda won the title with 19 points clear."

@ Sharon
You're just being dubious, you and I know that it's been the anthem/code of most prem teams, especially those at the lower rung of the ladder that once they get very physical with the young Arsenal players, then they are more likely to get a result,so when an accident occurs in such games, chances of them being freaky and horrific are higher than the once arising from a non-premeditated physical approach game
Y'all make it sound as if it's only Arsenal that play all these teams from the lower rung.
United, Chelsea and Liverpool play them as well. It's Football. . . . .Get on with it.
MOTD just cleared the incident now. Shawcross went genuinely for the ball. . . .no studs up!!!

I am glad Capello invited him to join the 3 Lions team tonight. Shawcross needed that boost.
He isn't a dirty player. He's never copped a red card before.
Gallas' tackle on Davis was worse.

Don't mind Wenger and that labia called Cesc inducing sympathy from all and sundry.

It's hard to tell from a photograph how malicious a tackle was, or how much of the injury was caused by Shawcross.
There have been cases of players breaking their leg on the most innocuous of tackles as well (Cisse). John Arne Riise's shot broke Alan Smith's ankle and he was out for 6 months in 2006.

I'm not saying that's what's happened, but for Wenger to jump to conclusions based on a poor perspective and after the break has occurred is a bit premature. There's no clear evidence that it was Shawcross' foot that caused the break?
It could have been his leg or knee the way they fell into each other.

Fabregas did not moan to SKYSPORTS when Gallas broke Mark Davis' leg some weeks ago.
