c'mon people. . . . . the man played a back-4 against wolfsburg - here against fulham, he played a back-3. Unthinkable when you know the lone CB is who. . . . . . . . CARRICK; on the left DE LAET, on the right FLETCHER  shocked
He played 3-5-2 against Wolfsburg.
The only difference was JS Park who played as a wing back and was dropping back as a RB and bombing forward as a winger.

when we reverted to 4-4-2, did you not see the see some form of sanity return to the entire game huh
With the benefit of hindsight. . . . . grin grin grin grin grin

LIVERPOOL ARE NO THREAT TO MAN UTD.
After last season saw Liverpool mount their first serious challenge for the Premier League title this decade, some are backing them to go a step further in the 2009-10 edition.

Sir Alex Ferguson is not one of those people.

The Manchester United boss held off Rafael Benitez's Reds down the stretch last term to claim a third straight PL crown, and he doubts that the Merseysiders will pose any more of a threat this time around.

"It will be hard for them to match last season, let alone improve on it. Other teams will know more about them," Ferguson told The Sun.

"Liverpool had probably their best season for 20 years and still finished four points adrift."

Some observers have begun leaning towards the Scot's way of thinking now that 'Pool have confirmed that Xabi Alonso, arguably their star man last season, is on his way to Real Madrid.

However, Ferguson is not convinced that the Spanish midfielder's departure will have much of an effect either way, as he is of the opinion that the Scousers' greatest weapons lie further afield.

"The exert of their team is all about [Steven] Gerrard and [Fernando] Torres," he added.

Still, the question remains: who will be Man United's most dangerous rivals in 2009-10? Ferguson believes the answer is to be found in west London.

"It has to be Chelsea as the main threat. [Carlo] Ancelotti will change how they play," he said.

"They will play the Milan way. It brought him two European Cups - it should have been three, because they should never have lost to Liverpool. So why should he change?
SAF is god, tkb417. cool
He made these comments on the 5th of August even before a ball was kicked this season.
99% of the Pundits in UK tipped Liverpool to win the title this season but only SAF's analysis was spot-on.
He lost on Fulham because all the managers in this world put together wouldn't have salvaged a point against Fulham with 8 defenders out.

tkb417:
Fulham and Villa aint wolfsburg

if SAF tries it with Leeds UTD, we'll lose

i believe SAF is smoking weed nowadays
So if you were SAF @ Craven Cottage, who would you have played and what formation?
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Manchester United Fan Thread by Sauron1: 5:17pm On Dec 21, 2009
RuuDie:
SAF should never ever try that 3-5-2 formation ever again if he doesn't have DEFENDERS. . . . .  you have a make-shift defence and instead of playing a system they are familiar and comfortable with, you opt for something right outta the blue - what was all that for huh
sometimes i suspect that man of match-fixing - that was totally inexplicable!

that was rubbish! From the very second i saw the way the team was spread, i knew we were in deep S***T!
Hindsight analysis. . . . .

When he used it against Wolfsburg and United won 1-3, did you complain?
[i]S[/i]hit happens, get over it.

I cannot fault SAF for using that formation on Saturday.
Credits to Fulham for taking full advantage of our hopeless situation in the defence.

Pique, Keita, Busquets, Maxwell, Messi as #10 and not stuck out on the right, Alvez.
Pique? The same Pique Rijkaard sent to us so we can develop him?
You are a disgrace.

Messi? Messi is still stuck on the right and he is allowed to roam.
Keita, Busquets and Maxwell are surplus to requirements. How many of these idiots will play in a CL-final if everyone is fit?

Now Maxwell, Ibra, Chygrinsky, Pedro, Jeffren. . . I don't even know what to say to u anymore. U are beyond clueless   shocked shocked
See this mumu.
Here, only Ibra deserves a mention and he was a straight swap for Samuel Etoo.
What has changed? Has Guardiola changed the way Barcelona play under Rijkaard?
Did he discover the best players in the Barca team?

If u have a clue what we played like under rijkaard u wouldn't dare say Pep has not changed the system, but debating that with u will be like arguing with Nemo. In your world playing the same formation means playing the same system. In fact, silence is the best answer for u on this one  :-
You are a plonker.
Chelsea under Jose Mourinho played 4-3-3 but see how Ancellotti has improvised a new system/formation with the diamond system.
To me, that is innovation. The general belief was Anelka and Drogba couldn't play together under Grant/Scolari.
Now, Ancellotti is playing em together and getting good results. . . . .Pep Guardiola has not done that to Barca.
------------------------------------------------------------

That may be so. . . BUT the second half this time around will not be as easy as last season's - don't count on the same thing repeating itself.

He is so daft he has stuck to Rijkaard's 4-3-3 system. What expertise has he brought to the Barca team?
What innovations?

of the opposition does not come into play when counting points that will win you the league.
Don't mind Debosky.
United trounced the bottom 12 teams last season home and away bar Newcastle(home) to win the title.
Of the 72 points available against the bottom 12 teams, United copped a whooping 70 points.
That was how the title was won. Liverpool came on top beating the toughest opposition but they won nowt last season.

Playing weak sides like Wolves and beating them 4-1 masks the underlying problems in defence - once you face more potent rivals you get exposed.
It was 3-0. Pay attention to details, amigo.

3 points per win yes, but the quality of the opposition matters as well - Utd's tough league start last year meant that by the time they got into their stride they played poorer teams and thus kept their noses in front.
United won the title last season beating bottom teams home and away.
The head to head grand slam fixtures did not yield anything so it's imperative a team beats the smaller teams.

You should have sufficient nous to realise that London derbies are often close encounters - Both Wolves and Portsmouth were summarily dispatched by both Arsenal and Chelski so that should tell you the Hammers case is different.
Why wasn't Manchester derby a close encounter for us?
The same Pompey that tonked Liverpool 2-0?

Not bad yes, but those stats don't tell the full story:

Chelski has played Arsenal and Man City in this period.
United trounced these teams convincingly in August. grin grin

Arsenal has played Chelski, Liverpool, Sunderland and Burnley in that period - Utd dropped points against ALL those teams.
The ones in bold were all AWAY games.

Utd in contrast faced the bottom three teams in this period, all of whom they beat. The only win of note was against Everton whom have been poor so far.

In the two games of substance you've played in that period - Fulham and Villa you lot have come up woefully short.
Chelsea and Arsenal played West Ham in that period and they did NOT record a victory against the Hammers.

As for him being disabled, that makes no difference. A disabled man / woman could abscond with the help of the family you've so thoughtfully mentioned. Unless you expect him to be watched 24-7?
An average prisoner in the UK costs the tax payers £110 everyday.
