Do most of the parents care? As long as they get to be called Iya Doctor" or their daughters are called "Iyawo Doctor", it doesnt matter to them if the person is working like a cheap dog or the spouse is miserable.

Since medical research does not have the prefix doctor it matters to them. If you tell them their is life outside of doctor they will say people will always need doctor. As if those doctors don't need research sef or people don't need someone to look at their teeth.

One of the main reason the life expectancy is so low in many African countries is because their are not many dentists around, an argument I have brought up and was quickly shut down. Too bad in the end I might do want I really want.

why go through all that just to hear "Iyawo Doctor" when you can get better money and more attention being with an investment banker, engineer, lawyer, hedge fund executive, pharmacist, etc

Nothing is wrong with it if you don't mind them fully doing their job. It is hard to have a family, that's why medical research, pharmacology, optometry or dentistry are other options in the medical field that are not as time constraint as doctor.
However attimes Nigerian parents don't see it that way.
