StaffofOrayan:Oga do you mean they don't pay taxes in America? We have never had an efficient tax system in Nigeria. Infact the FIRS is concentrating more on including more and more people in the tax net than altering tax rates. They are even giving waivers to bring more people into the tax net. Isn't that a tax break? Please lets try to understand issues. Its very important. You can't lower taxes in Nigeria when nobody is paying taxes in the first place! You expand the tax net first. Make people who should pay in the first place, actually pay!!! That's what the FIRS is doing! When we have an actual tax net, we can alter rates to encourage productivity and business growth! 1 Like |

If I had a gun I would shoot you for the fun of it. People like you should be shot dead for aggressive and violent ignorance. No matter how hard anyone tries to cure your ignorance, you're still aggressive and dogmatic about it! Ode! Fool that thinks it was the government increased fuel price, or food prices! Bloody idiot! Fool let me lecture you: Our debt to gdp ratio is significantly low. At 23%, we're only mobilizing very little debt in funding our budget and vital projects. We can borrow more to build more, that's the meaning. A debt to GDP of 40% is the maximum threshold that international financial institutions advise. Our total debt is 21trillion consisting of 73% local or naira debt and the remaining in dollars. The dollar component can be easily offset as we have enough in our dollar accounts with rising oil price and soaring reserves. That is not a concern. Infact we can take on more dollar debt seeing as we have more than enough capacity to repay. Its the local component of the debt that is of concern. Our Revenue to GDP ratio is very low at 6%. Means we're not generating enough government revenue from our production. How do we correct this? By increasing the revenue we can get from the producing segments of our production. Through taxes! Increasing the revenue drive from taxation. The FG is aggressively pursuing this with VAIDS and a revamped FIRS. With increasing tax receipts, we will be spending less and less on offsetting our local obligations. Its very simple! Plus Mr illiterate, the government didn't increase fuel price! The government placed a cap on the price of fuel at N145. That was when all importers were allowed to bring in the product. They had a choice to still sell at that N87 cap that the criminal Jonathan government set. They didn't. When the price of oil increased in the international market, they all withdrew from importing, leaving the NNPC as the sole importer. Please Mr idiot, try to read more and enlighten yourself. The government is not responsible for your poverty and hunger! Its you!!! Don't blame anyone if your life is miserable and sad. Its all your fault!!! |

Fayose didn't build schools, didn't build hospitals. But took pleasure in awarding a contract of billions of Naira for building a High court complex, while owing salaries for 7months! I'm 100% sure the rationale for building that high court complex was to launder money either through contract inflation or direct theft! 4 Likes 3 Shares |

chukzyfcbb:This is the biggest fool on this forum! We are spending how much to offset our debt repayment which is mostly in naira? So what do we do to generate more naira to reduce pressure of Naira debt repayment? Fool like you! You just want to appear smart when you're not even making any sensible point! Saying the government should capture the high and mighty in their tax net, then pray tell, what is VAIDS all about? Fool!!!! Any FYI Mr idiot, Nigeria's GDP is not negative! our current GDP growth is 1.95%. Inflation has been dropping for 15 consecutive months from around 18% to 12.4% last month. israelmao:wft is this? Everything you have written here is a lie. Of our 21 trillion naira debt, 73% of it is in naira, in the form of tbills and bonds like the Sukuk bond. The external borrowing is Euro bond issues and world bank and IMF loans. The currency deal with China is a massive plus for Nigeria because it will reduce the pressure on our dollar reserves. Instead of imoorters converting from naira to dollars and then to yuan, before making imports, they simply convert from naira to yuan. This reduces dollar demand. The naira will definitely appreciate against the dollar very soon as a significant chunk of dollar demand is from importers of Chinese goods. Once this demand shift to yuan, the positive effect on the naira will be remarkable. |

Raylight2:That would be crazy. One of the side effects of issuing government securities such as tbills and bonds, apart from revenue generation, is to mop up excess liquidity (like we were all taught In secondary school) If the government issues tbills to raise money and mop up excess money, wouldn't it be wise to use tax (another means of mopping up excess liaiidity) to offset the debt incurred from tbills? If you take money out of the system with tbills and then pour money back into th system by printing more money, you're just promoting inflation, which is crazy monetary policy. Only the likes of Venezeula an Zimbabwe practise that kind of economics. 1 Like |

clergyboy:Yes and we should have even borrowed more! Government securities represent a chunk of the domestic portion of the debt which on its own is more than 70% of the entire debt chunk. Our domestic revenue mobilization through tax is ramping up. So we can safely offset the domestic portion of the debt stock which is more than 70% of the entire debt profile. We should even be borrowing more based on these numbers. |

bankylan:Ignoramus spotted! Did the IMF mention anything about Nigeria being heavily indebted? They even said our debt stock is quiet low, at less than 25% of GDP. We can actually take on more debt if we want. Please endeavour to read and comprehend before commenting. It's not by force to post a comment. |
Business / Re: IMF Doubts Nigeria’s Capacity To Repay Debts by SBG04: 7:46am On May 22, 2018 |
To the ignorant ones that don't read to understand anything, the IMF director never doubted Nigeria's ability to repay her debt, that kind of statement is meant for the likes of Greece and Venezeula. Nigeria's debt to GDP ratio is still very low, which means we can even safely take on more debt. The concern the IMF raided is with our revenue mobilization especially from tax. Revenue to GDP is still single digit. Like we all know, the FG is ramping up tax revenue generation with VAIDS and a more aggressive FIRS and this is yielding incredible results. So in essence Nigeria is on course with respect to allaying IMFs concerns. Please the illiterates and ignorants on this forum should go get an education and stop spewing rubbish about what they knw nothing of. |

seguno2:Bros again please, in what part of the article was it stated that the Buhari FG removed contractors from the site in 2015 and mobilised them back in 2017? The engineer in the article you quoted said the early work stage had 4 phases. 1 to 3 had been completed before October 2016. Was any reference made to the progress of work before 2015? So please I repeat, who told you that Buhari removed contractors from the site in 2015 and mobilised them back in 2017? Where did you hear or see that one? 2 Likes |

Wasn't it instead stated in the article that the previous administration simply commissioned and abandoned the project almost immediately it was commenced? Why are you trying so hard to be dubious? This is how fraudsters and criminals are born! You know inside you that it was Jonathan's government that abandoned this project long before 2015, heck you have the article to prove it! But you cleverly quoted the part of the article that tallied with the lie you were about to craft and then embellished the lie further. You're a future fraudstar, that's if you're not already one. Wasn't it stated in this same article that the previous government just commissioned it and left it till October last year? This is a quote from the same article “I want to commend President Muhammadu Buhari for continuing with the project which was inaugurated by his predecessors and who did not do any work until their tenure expired" Seguno you quoted the part of the article that agreed with your lies and then embellished your lies with hatred and yet more lies. The truth of the matter is that we have always had investors willing to pump in billions of dollars into our economy but greed and corruption have always chased them away. It's either the PDP government was demanding for bribes or the President and his ministers wanted a cut. Jonathan and Adoke, his Justice Minister, took their own cut in the Malabu oil scam before approving the deal. Atiku wanted a cut in the Siemens deal before lying to congressman, William Jefferson, that he would facilitate approval for the deal as VP and chair of the National council on Privitization. James Ibori wanted Econet Wireless to bribe him in millions of dollars in order to sustain Delta State shares in Econet. All these things are public knowledge and can be further researched online. I wonder why then on earth anyone would want us to go back to that PDP era of graft and grand corruption. I just wonder! 7 Likes 1 Share |

Timi frank is an inconsequential bastard!!! If he has nothing else to critique Buhari's government on other than the price of fuel going from N83 to N145, he's truly clueless and idiotic like Jonathan. I don't understand how someone can say he will go back and apologise to someone whose own wife is undergoing investigation for stealing and stashing millions in sky bank! Was it Buhari that helped Patience Jonathan stash the money away? Are those thrumped up charges? Diezani's and Dasuki's cases? Are they trumped up charges? Even the National Anti crime agency in Britain has said Diezani has a case to answer with respect to bribery and fraud! Was It Buhari that implicated Saraki in the Panama leaks? |

kaboninc:Please let's leave sentiments! Has he ever been investigated for corruption? No! Almost all the 36 state governors that governed between 1999 and 2007 were either invited, interrogated or charged for corruption. He was never. Did he govern a state of more than 1M people? Yes! How did he fare? superb! He made the a hitherto backward state Nigeria's number 1 tourist destination! The state during the period was noted for cleanliness and the annual Calabar Christmas festival. His management of the Bakassi crisis was excellent and superb. There was never any incident of political squabbling or infighting during his time as governor of Cross Rivers. He handled his succession excellently with Liyel Imoke becoming governor after Duke. I have no doubt in my mind that he would make an excellent President. He's done it on a smaller scale with excellent results. He shouldn't have any problem replicating at the national level. By far a better prospect the the other empty barrels you quoted earlier. |

trillville:I disagree! The people you classed as "youth" are old men in their late 40s and 50s. What would you call then Emmanuel Macron? All of them have zero administrative experience. Moghalu has been a deputy governor of the CBN. Would he know anything about defeating Boko haram? Sowore is the publisher of an online whistleblower, what does he know about leading millions of people when his Sahara reporters has a staff strength of less than 15. Durotoye is a motivational speaker that wants to become President. I'm yet to hear anything about his views on Boko haram, our foreign reserves or petrol subsidy. All these guys you mentioned are empty barrels with little or capacity to lead Nigeria. The only one I would have given a slight chance, Donald Duke, is showing little interest. Duke transformed Cross Rivers. He has never been investigated for corruption and he led a state of more that a million people without trouble. That is someone I would vote as President if he presented himself. 2 Likes |

This Makarfi guy was governor of Kaduna from 1999 to 2007, 8 years! Can anyone point to any tangible legacy or defining project that this guy executed in Kaduna state that should make us vote him as President? At least we know Donald Duke made Calabar the cleanest city in Nigeria between 1999 - 2007. We know his defining projects (Tinapa and the Obudu cattle ranch ugrade). Based on these Donald Duke has better a shot at the Presidency because he changed Cross Rivers. Mitt Romney in the USA was pushed to contest the Presidency based on his performance as governor of Massachusetts. His defining programs were the health insurance scheme he implemented in his state that was replicated in several other states in the USA. Please in God's name, can anyone list out reasons why any Nigerian with a brain should vote Markafi as President, based on his performance as governor of Kaduna between 1999 - 2007?? cc: tonyebarcanister 3 Likes |

TimFisher:Dunce like you! Has it occurred to you that anytime Saraki is exposed for his criminality, he tries anything possible to bring his accuser down and get the person removed. He arranged for Larmode to be removed after Larmode, as chair of the EFCC, invited his wife Toyin for questioning. He got his friend to lie to a kangaroo Senate panel to indict Larmode for embezzling EFCC recoveries. A naive Buhari quickly sacked Larmode on the strength of these allegations. Next was Magu that dragged Saraki to the CCT for false declaration of assets. Saraki turned it personal against Magu and goaded the Senate to decline his confirmarion. Next is the IGP. Saraki is doing everything possible to bring him to disrepute because he refused to release his coconspirator in the Senate, Dino and because his murderous ways are about to be exlosed. Now Saraki wants us to get rid of Idris so his murders can be covered up. The annoying part of all this is that we have idiots like yourself that don't have any clue of what's going on, jumping and supporting that Criminal called Saraki. I pity your destiny. 1 Like |
