Those bones are a source of calcium and chewing them also strengthens your teeth and gums. Ignore that young woman and crunch your bones to your heart's content. The Brits have a reputation (deserved or not) for poor oral and dental health, so next time you want to crack a few chicken bones, invite that young woman to join you for a workout of her teeth and gums. You may just be the one to save her from endless visits to the dentist - if not now, then in the future. wink
Thanks jare. U are more sensible than that idiot that called himself shameless and seems to reason in opposite. Truth is she quite know that bone is reach in calcium but she said here people don't eat bones. She said she's never seen anyone. Of course if they say something is not allowed here u use wisdom. Since then I have eating plenty bones at home and won't make mistake of doing such in public. Even their meat does not have bones. If u eat in restaurants they even remove bones from fish too. Moreover bone is not the only source of calcium and just like the yorubas will say it is inside ur house that u eat insect that has navel. Inu ile eni Latin je kokoro to ni idodo

There's nothing wrong with taking pics of yourself in the snow. You're the ignorant one
All over Switzerland, parts of the United States, Japan and other countries, the natives take pictures and play during snow. Then for OP which is his first time with his lovely family.

As for your bone story, you're even more ignorant than I thought. Instead of chewing the bone very well and defending your acts that it helps in ensuring your teeth stays strong and healthy. It gives calcium to the body. You shamelessly threw it into the bin.

You see, not only are you ignorant, you're shameless and have low self-esteem.

Tufiakwa!
I first pity u because wisdom is profitable to direct. From the picture how many oyinbo u see there. When u get to Rome behave like the Romans. If u get somewhere and they talk say they no dey do wetin u dey do normally carry ur coconut head go do am. When I dey my house I go eat, crush swallow the bone but in public I go respect myself since they said they no dey do am. Now go over ur comment this time slowly and see if human being should think like that. And of course who is the shameless among us since u don't seem to understand that word called shameless

money121:
The people of Ogu kingdom in Ogu/Bolo LGA of Rivers State on Saturday celebrated Iria, an ancient ceremony that marks the transition of girls who are usually virgins into womanhood

Young virgins were given certificates by the Ogu council of chiefs for passing through the test.

Iria, is considered a rite of passage for young girls as they reach puberty and begin to mature physically

To pass through the test, the girls must first be virgins which will be checked by women of the town, then they will be kept in a room where they will undergo training on womanhood

After passing through this process, the qualified girls will be given certificates showing that they are now adult ladies ready to marry.
It's an OKRIKA Ijaw ceremony that dates back to the 17th century.

Your number 6 is false. It seems you are not living inside London for you to say you have never seen anyone preaching openly. In Fact right in the heart of London, Westminster, you will see people with public address system preaching. I work around this area so I know what I am saying. Got to Oxford Circus, you will find people preaching there. Same with Lewisham. These routes are my routes so I know what I am saying
I don't want to include Peckham and Camberwell but for these two areas, every blessed day, you will find like 2 to 3 people on the same spot with different public address system kabashing and preaching...(The thing dey funny me sef) Specifically, around Hannover park or Peckham Library...

I know there are gays and Lesbian, but since I came here, I am yet to see a public display of affection between gáys and Lésbian. I know there are but I am yet to see one. Out of curiosity, I asked a friend that has stayed here for 2 years, he said he is also yet to see one. Nevertheless, they subtly teach children in school about this 3rd gender shít..

The remaining points are spot on.
If you agree with me London is just one city which is abnormal. Just like second Nigeria. I once heard a loud speaker from a church in London area singing popular yoruba praise and worship but this is really not so in other cities in the UK.
On public display of affection this is much displayed everywhere. Go to bars, events in school campuses you can't pass a day without seeing it. Go to where people are gathered then you will see it. June or July is rainbow month 🌈. That sign is from LGBQT.

What is the point of learning how to drive in Nigeria then getting there and discovering theirs is "opposite wheel drive".

You will still have to go and relearn from scratch.
It is much easier to adapt because the opposite wheel drive also correlate with the way the road direction for car is. To learn driving in UK is not easy. You pay 45£ for 1hour of practical. Now how many hours will you pay before your hand becomes straight.

Like I said this thread is not to discourage anyone but to inform people and get them aware incase they move out to the UK. I am not living in naija. Atleast its been a long time I left Nigeria and the report I got has been heart renting. The best part of my years has been in another man's land. I wish I left earlier than I did
TravelJapa: Some Strange Things You Will Find Out When You Japa by scally11(op):
So I decided to open this thread for japarian as they move for greener pastures on some cultural shock and other things they should prepare themselves for. This thread is not to discourage or encourage anyone but to inform people about what they are likely to encounter on this journey. I myself japa and I am happy I did because things turned out good but another person may be ruing their decision that they left so pick what you can pick from it and build on the positives or just calmly sit down and enjoy the renewed hope.
1. First no one send anyone as people are on the fast lane. U see people working to pay rent which takes a long chunk of ur wages. Meanwhile most jobs pay weekly on Friday morning. Before u wake up ur weekly pay is waiting for you. No employer will owe you. This is one positive but notes as you earn more your tax and insurance increases. You can't evade tax easily and you may go to prison for tax invasion.
2. Learn to avoid saying sorry if u are not the cause. I was a victim of this . Anytime someone falls or something bad happens, I will empathise by saying sorry but they always tell me " not your fault" . I think this is due to the fact that I lived among yoruba people who always empathise with event.
3. People are likely to go depressed in UK than Nigeria. No-one has much time to check on you because people work at strange hours for contract or full time jobs. Sometimes I won't see my wife for a week and we live in same building. When she's leaving for work I may be away or vice verbal but we sometimes manage to call ourselves. You may leave in a building without knowing your neighbours. Hence mental health is serious issue here so try enjoy yourself after work. Sometimes I will just enter one restaurant just to feel people around me.

4. No-one will give you free money except you work in hospitality. I mean as a waiter not in hospital. Before you earn 100 pounds you must work your ass. Some of my friends will ask me to send 50 to 100£ when I was working as a student. One even asked me if he could earn 1500£ per day because we always talk thousands and millions here in naija. Minimum pay is 10.40£ per hour so that 100£ is over 10hours serious work.
5. Learn to work smart not hard. Avoid warehouse jobs at all cost because it will wear you out easily. Care jobs is better because is less stressful. Learn how to drive before coming because it will give you edge's when you can drive than not and try to obey traffic light. This is the first thing that will mess you up because of opposite wheel drive. When I first came in newly, I used to believe cars can come out from anywhere so I usually follow traffic light.
6. Never force your spirituality on people. You will see gays and lesbianism easily around you. The government encourages everyone to be who they are. I have never seen anyone preaching on street or bus. Everyone respect everyone opinions. So keep your spirituality to yourself and do not get surprised as what u will see.
7. Everyone plays apart in financing. The fact that someone house you don't mean you won't contribute to rent or bills. If u see someone housing you freely don't say shebi I am visitor. My own sister told me if I failed to pay rent at the end of the month then she will push me into cold. UK is not for lazy people get something to do even if it's downgrading to contribute to bills or save to get your own space. No one will house u for long because people respect their space.
8. Sunday is noted for higher pay. I can hardly count days I went to church because of double pay. The last time I went I was just calculating how much I d earn when I was working. People hardly go to church except for Nigerians or old white people.
9.There are community stores where u can get food freely or cheap. We call them foodbanks. They are almost everywhere in the UK.
People always follow rules and always say thank you for little help even to drivers driving you or just delivering parcel to u. Learn habit of saying thank you.
10. Every country in UK speak different English. First you will have a hardwire understanding them. Glasgow English is terrible that you won't understand anything at first because they are fast. Ireland speak quiet differently. Don't worry with time you will understand them but listen carefully and tell them in polite way to speak slowly.
11. There are different currency in pounds used in the UK. We have the English pound, Scottish, Irish and Welsh pounds. All these have same value and are readily acceptable in any country in the UK. Scotland alone have like three different pounds printed by different banks which are acceptable as well. There is currency printed by bank of Scotland, Royal Bank of Scotland and Clyde bank. Each is different and have their own design. You can hardly recognise the notes but the coins are the same. Only Bank of England pounds can be easily exchanged in black market in Nigeria. If u are buying pounds in Nigeria they will likely give u.

Lastly, learn how to use Google map. No one knows anywhere. Google map is your best bet. I remembered when I first came in and was three busstop from my school. I dropped from bus and was asking people for directions to my university. I was surprised that no one knows the direction to a whole university which is just 15minutes away by foot but that is it. Postcodes rules here.

@op.
First of all, there is no 100% guarantee in life. Not everyone who migrates or don't migrate abroad will be successful. Have this at the back of your mind. Life itself is a risk.

Let me tell you about my own philosophy. I subscribe to the view that the first 30 years of your life is yours. Enjoy every bit of it, you can think about yourself alone, you can be selfish and take decisions that benefit you and you alone. If you want to explore in sambisa, do it, it's all yours

After 30 years of age with kids coming or about to come, your life is no longer yours alone. You should dedicate your life to your next generation, your kids. At this point, your decision in anything you do should be based on first how it benefits your kids or future kids before yourself. If it benefits you but not your kids, I'll say no but if it benefits my kids and not me, I'll say yes. While you were greedy and selfish before 30, this stage requires you to be selfless and be ready to be a sacrificial lamb and allow your family to be greedy. This is my own philosophy that guides me, anyone can have a different philosophy.

This philosophy helped me make decision years ago about migrating. I asked myself, how do I ensure my children are better positioned with more opportunities when they grow up especially in today's uncertain times? After some research, I came to the conclusion that giving them the opportunity to become global citizens will give them more and better options down the road. They won't be restricted to just Nigeria, they will have options in other countries as well. Since I didn't give birth to them abroad, the only option was to relocate. Because I had the money and opportunity to migrate LEGALLY, I took the chance. I wouldn't have done that if there was no legal way to do that even with my desires. I discourage illegal immigration, it is not worth it.

I had no reason to migrate cos I was doing well but I put them first. Before I left, recognizing that there is no guarantee abroad, I had already conditioned my mind that even if I end up not getting what I worth abroad but my children succeed, I'm okay, it is a sacrifice I'm willing to make. But at the end, thank God it worked fine for me, i made a career pivot when i got abroad and boom, i became even more successful than i was in Nigeria but I was ready to accept my fate if it didn't work out.

As Canadian citizens, I and my children can decide to come back to Nigeria tomorrow to work or do business, can decide to work or do business in Canada or the US. These are 3 options available to my kids now and I have never been happier.

Note that there are kids or people who have 5 strong passports but are useless so it is not always a guarantee but I believe as a parent, it is my duty to do the best I can to position them in a way they can become more successful and hope it works out at the end.

The decision to migrate is solely based on your view. Look at what you desire most and see how your decision will affect it. Again, there are no guarantees anywhere in this world, we just have to do the best we can to achieve our desires.
@ops there lies the answer that u need. The few months I have spent abroad is the best years of my life. Please grab this opportunity for the sake of your children. If u miss it ur children will hate you for it. I almost had a bitter experience when all my fathers friends relocated their family while my own parents leaved us in naija to suffer with them. Later , he truthfully regretted that decision and apologised to us children

You are lucky they asked u to choose a topic which most schools will do. Use 15mins to prepare lesson note. Take the lesson note inside, use the board well by writing subjects, topic, date etc. Make sure u rule the board. As u teach move round the class. Don't just stay in a spot. Ask them questions and engage the panel but control them so it's not rowdy. They never born any one not to employ you. I have even gone to a micro teaching that they will give u topic to teach impromptu and I go still dust am. Me way de present seminar within a day and everyone must applaud. Micro teaching is the least of my worries but salary. Teaching is easy for me but the salary is the koko. A particular year I had 4offers and hard to go with highest and flexible bidder.
