Complaints Management
This is a Guide on how and where you can lodge a complaint against Financial Institutions regulated by the Central Bank of Nigeria such as Commercial Banks, Microfinance Banks, Primary Mortgage Institutions and Discount Houses.

Contact Your Institution First

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) issued a circular in 2011 directing all banks to expand their existing ATM HELP DESK to handle all types of consumer complaints.
Therefore, if you have a complaint against your bank, you MUST first report the complaint at the bank/branch where the issue originated and then allow 2 weeks (it might be less in some banks) for the issue to be resolved.

If Your Bank Fails To Resolve Your Complain

If after lodging your complaint your Bank still fails to engage you and resolve the complaint within 2 Weeks as provided for in the ATM HELP DESK Circular, you have the right to escalate your complaint to the Consumer Protection Department (CPD) of the CBN.

Complaints to Consumer Protection Department

You can only direct your Complaints to CPD upon the failure of your Bank/Financial Institution to resolve your complaint within the 2 weeks timeline given by the CBN.

You can contact the CPD through the following channels:

Your letter of Complaint should be addressed to the Director, Consumer Protection Department. You can submit your letter at the CBN Head Office OR at any of the Central Bank of Nigeria branches of nationwide.
Does the CPD Deal with all Types of Complaints?
The CBN deals with all financial related complaints so far as it is against Financial Institutions within its regulatory purview. How to Write an Effective Complaints Letter

Your complaint should be clear and concise to avoid ambiguity. The Complaint letter (petition) should contain amongst other things the following:
• Name, Address, Contact Phone Number & E-mail of the Complainant;
• Name of your Financial Institution;
• Personal banking details (Do NOT include PIN & Passwords, please
• History/Date of the transaction in dispute;
• Amount claimed (if any);
• Attach relevant documents to support you claim and;
• Evidence to show that you have first lodged the complaint at your bank.
You can make your further inquiries and obtain additional information on the Complaints Handling Process of the Central Bank of Nigeria from the Complaints Unit of your Bank/Financial Institution or from CBN offices nationwide.

Likely issues.....She had her ATM card stolen and used by someone close to her, who also knows her pin ......second is her card got cloned and they somehow got her Card pin as well.

But in reality most times, ATM card fraud that involves compromised pin numbers are usually committed by someone close to the victim

her card wasnt stolen infact the card was with her while she was receiving the alerts on her phone and she went to the bank today and they told her she didnt apply for any loan not to talk of any outstanding loan debt on her account

Ask your sister questions on last POS She used the card.

She should also explain to you if She has ever used Her card details on Branch, perhaps She used it to request for loan or someone used Her card details without Her knowing.

She should contac GTB ASAP for Her complaint to be escalated to the Fraud team.

The card should be blocked too immediately!

You usually see them carrying multiple POS machines, they even slot people cards into one or two before completing your transaction. An average POS is a card reader. So that's how they clone cards.

I remember Gtbank showing me some transaction histories of where I was being debited of some amount for checking account balance. You know who remotely checked my account balance? A certain loan app.

Whoever that did this game is a mugu, except the person is smart by using another person details but whichever way it must be linked to that person.

1. This narration PG BRANCH INTERNATIONAL is a mobile loan app. And the criminal element that did this isn't far from your sister, bcoz they got hold of her card details..... Especially the (CVV2) number.

2. It could also be the POS attendant responsible as some people must have said.

3. Your sister must have logged into the Branch app on someone's phone and forgot to delete the app, and the phone got sold out or been used by same criminal.

4. Your sister my be the criminal here also, trying to play a fast one on you and me.

REMEDY

Let her send a mail to Branch Intl (nigeria@branch.co) copy (usa@branch.co and kenya@branch.co) , attach the evidences and let them Know the risk it tells about their businesses and how you have come here on Nairaland to share about the experience.
Please the mail should be written as if na her dey write am, copy your bank Customer care, anti fraud unit email and your account officer email address (Can be gotten from d GTB app).

Kindly request for the phone number linked to the account that Received that money, the bvn number of the person and screenshot..........

If I can get the bvn number of the person, I can assist you get the idiot immediately.

I want you to copy everyone I mentioned in the email, bcoz everyone will want to clean up dia asses by doing dia bit and in turn u set everyone up.....................





And lastly,
Kindly confirm she isn't owing Branch Intl or if the money wasn't used to settle past debt before doing so...........
But I am 98% certain that someone close is responsible, as the CVV2 did the magic.

Sorry for your sisters loss, happened to me February this year about 80k..card looks like it was cloned, until today I didn't get response from my bank. I use another card now and I leave 5k on it per time. It's crazy!

I think you are right chief cause this things you talked happened to me today again, i try withdrawing from a woman"s POS on my street but i was debited without getting any funds, the girl there told me the transaction failed but i was debited so i have to into bank tomorrow, she claimed Access bank network was bad

Let your sister tell you the truth if she needs help, her card cannot be compromised without her input. Ask questions, what has she done online recently with the card. I am not ruling out the possibility of atm cloning, but I have a feeling she gave some details out. Some backs ATMs dont need otp e.g Access,
