Here is a list of genocides as described by the United Nations. I will not define it for you since i assume that you are not an idiot, you just have a low IQ.

Collateral Damage is part of war, war is not some gardening party. The beatiality of man is unleashed in such unfortunate circumstances, caution is throwing into the winds, this is a fact that is known and acknowledge all over the world. Even in the west Abu greb prison atrocities comes to mind.
I think ojukwu forgot to learn that at sandhurst or their dumb leaders did not think that through, before placing the lives of innocents into danger embarassed. When you start a war, you get what you get. These stupid tribalists who think igbo people are special are idiots. Angelizing igbo people as if these people were not the same ones who sold a significant amount of their own people into slavery. Some idiots would now blame europeans for everything. Power has the ability to twist human nature, and just because the igbo did not have access to the same amount of power as the yorubas and hausas does not mean that they are not capable of the atrocities that happened during the civil war.

In my opinion, also part of the reason Nigeria is so backward - we are afraid to revisit, with unflinching scrutiny, the mistakes and folly of our past. The result is that we are then more susceptible to making worse mistakes in the future; hence, we have learned nothing from our past mistakes.
No, nigeria is backward because people like you still see things through cloudy tribal lenses, assuming your people- who did undergo a great tragedy- were targetted for some special reason other than basic human instincts to protect their own. Yes, I am aware of what happened in the past, but i lwhat i learned from that past is not to care if someone is igbo, hausa or yoruba but to judge them as nigerian. What you and your tribalist friends want to do is portray yoruba people as evil, which commits the exact same crime of baseless prejudice as the people who enacted the biafran war.

For surely, I as Igbo share nothing with you fundamentally. Other than skin color, we share nothing!
Neither do i share nothing with my younger brother except we are both black- he likes pounded yam, and I like Amala so we are fundamentally different. We dress very differently too, so we are fundamentally different. Idiot.

Africans share a cultural motif in general- it is only your low IQ and poor education that makes it difficult for you to understand that.

The question even assumes more serious relevance today in light of the lack of qualms among the progenitors of the most heinous crimes against humanity. If, because I want to go my separate way, my so called compatriots plan to wipe me out, how does that make me feel toward such a nation? Moreso, if I feel that I am a prisoner in my fathers land, isn't it my bounden duty to tier down the walls of that prison?
you overrate the biafran war compared to other real heinous crimes. You idiots are comparing yourself to the holocaust. embarassed. Like the comparison doesn't make sense. Do you know what a genocide is?

How does one go about a peaceful Nigeria with retaliatory killings in the east? Is that the way forward?
Like I stated earlier, Igbos have never and will never enjoy fighting like you wish hence why some of them will always seek for their own sovereign state just to avoid injustice tolerated by Nigerians. And even I if they love blood shed like other Nigerians, how is that suppose to bring about a peaceful Nigerian nation?
very good point. however you are making it sound like igbo people are naturally peacceful grin

Where exactly do you stand? For war, peaceful Nigeria or a seperate country for the easterners? Cos from your suggestion, you seem to be looking forward to another massive rape of Igbo women.
Wherever place you stand, we dont like war hence why we opted out in the late sixties. That resulted to genocide, rape and starvation of women and children of which you have been celebrating all along in this thread
peaceful nigeria . As someone mentioned this is a fantasy- but at least people can make steps towards it. you said igbo people in the north are slaughtered. well why don't you do the same to theh northerners too. Infact if someone who is yoruba slaughters igbos in a genocide manner, you have my support- tit for tat.

But that isn't my point, my point was that we should stop laying blame on one particular ethnic group for the civil war. To have a war you need at least two factions. And when initiate actions that lead to a war be aware of the consequences.

then you guys should slaughter them back- then they go fear. Stop complaining- it is not going to  help. How are you going to fight a civil war with the whole of nigeria, supported by europeans who don't want to free their hold on oil wealth, when you cannot handle some mallams  angry

You can't even make a coherent argument! Self determination minus secession
olodo. international law is interpreted on a case by case basis, learn about recent secession movements especially during the fall of the iron curtain in communist countries. And i used to have a high opinion of igbo people for their intelligence. Anyways, there are exception to the rules

you guys are really disturbed.

To move on, the Nigerian government and all those who masterminded the heinous crimes against Ndi igbo must formally apologise to the Igbos and as well accept their mistakes . . . If not . . . . . . . . . . . . . . hatred would continue to be the order of the day as Nigeria disintegrates gradually  . . . . As for me, I pray for the DISINTEGRATION and I'm ready to fight for it.
you want the dead ones to aplogize to you too.  grin grin grin

@onlytruth you are a collosal bufoon  undecided. I am someone who has decided to kick against modern standards of categorization since they only lead to conflict and division. Agreed i self-identify as yoruba, male, nigerian, african- but i see this as inconsequenial in the grand scheme of things and of no relevance to my life.

What is gender but a biological classification? what does it mean to be of a certain tribe? I am aware that people are different, but i dont see those differences as irreconcilable.

you guys dont have better things to do than provide variations of my name. seafrog, sefago, sefool call me what you want- it does not change any issue.

odogwu nwoke, utilize your time for more important things rather than using them to educate SeFOOL, the yoruba boy is too young to assimilate and understand the political intrigues and nuances that led to the civil war.
you are hilarious- so because you are older than me- though with likely less intelligence- you apparently know more about the political intrigues. Everything you know is hearsay- you never got a first hand account of what happened. you never knew exactly what happened within the closed doors of the vote that lead to the secession, you never knew to be overly complex.

I am not his teacher though. He should wait to be educated the right way, when the war gets to his house. Igbos have since moved on and surpassed the genociders in all sectors of human development (except perhaps in looting the Nigerian treasury!). So, any Igbo still dreaming of a united Nigeria should think of people like SEAFROG. While thinking about our dead brothers and sisters, we should be well advised that the killers are still on the loose!
mugun. you must assume like you that i am a tribalist. yes, i believe the end justifies the means, and that is how the world works, i don't necessarily agree with it. I would never hurt a poor child or anyone in general, but i am not naive enough to think other ppl won't for silly reasons like tribal/ethnic affiliations. By the way what have igbos achieved? Answer: nothing. They are no different from any tribe in nigeria- stop putting yourself on an imaginary pedestal. you are not that special  undecided . It is only igbo people that consider this a genocide probably based on personal bias- but i am definitely sure that real igbo intellectuals- not idiots like you- know what it really was- a battle between elephants in which the grass suffered from.

He also wondered whether Biafra could have fared better. Well, Nigeria has clearly failed, even the birds know. He also didn't even know that the right to secede is a UN recognized right and is in line with international law.
man a bunch of dumb cows. You are talking of the UN charter of the right to self-determination issued after WW1. THis is not the same as the right to secede.  It only becomes the right to secede when fundamental basic human rights are no longer guaranteed i.e when it is definitely a genocide. SInce the biafran war was never proven to be a genocide in which the western governments and the north governments intentionally targeted and made attempts to exterminate people then it is not a genocide. just because u read something online for 5 minutes does not in anyways mean you have knowledge mate. Go back, sit down, think, and maybe wait a few year b4 u confront me.

NIgeria has failed right  angry, so what is your alternative- biafra  grin. I swear if this idiot is in lagos typing on a computer i hop sango strikes you  grin
Politics › Re: HISTORY LESSON: Nigeria/Biafran Civil War Most Famous Quotes!! by SEFAGO(m): 11:37pm On Nov 13, 2009
Have you asked yourself what led to that asking of secession? Whether biafra would have failed or not is not the issue here because you and i might never know.
So no significant consideration of the feasibility of a nation is needed b4 you go into a full blown war cry cry cry. Jesus. So Ojukwu did not consider the women and children that would have been killed by unscrupulous FMG soldiers, b4 he decided to go into a bloody war. Of course we might never know. We might also never know what would have happened if the war never happened either. My point, make calculated risks and when you do so- get ready for the consequences- and when the consequences dawn on you- do not complain.

A secession war that was gone into without critical thinking, and you want to claim genocide? I might as well start my own secession. Then some idiot calls me a teenager without significant knowledge of international law at that time or nigerian history and just feels he can comment on my age because he was born some years b4 i was.

I know what caused the secession- but it was also a two way street. I dont believe in secession, i would have expected the eastern government to have considered the reconciliation measures:

In January 1967, the military leaders and senior police officials met at Aburi, Ghana, at the invitation of the Ghanaian military government. By now the Eastern Region was threatening secession. In a last-minute effort to hold Nigeria together, the military reached an accord that provided for a loose confederation of regions. The federal civil service vigorously opposed the Aburi Agreement, however. Awolowo, regrouping his supporters, demanded the removal of all northern troops garrisoned in the Western Region and warned that if the Eastern Region left the federation, the Western Region would follow. The FMG agreed to the troop withdrawal.

Politics › Re: HISTORY LESSON: Nigeria/Biafran Civil War Most Famous Quotes!! by SEFAGO(m): 11:24pm On Nov 13, 2009
The eastern region voted for secession, and so nigeria decided to keep them together- incase you dont know- trying to secede is usually the same thing as treason in international law.

So the eastern region initiated the war, by going against standard international law (agreed made by europeans), but regardless you cannot fail to agree that a decision to secede causes for aggravation.
Politics › Re: HISTORY LESSON: Nigeria/Biafran Civil War Most Famous Quotes!! by SEFAGO(m): 11:22pm On Nov 13, 2009
Then just take it that we are still at war . . . . . And thats why the cesspit called Nigeria would never know peace till it disintegrates into its different components.

At least some of you fools are now feeling the effects of the suicidal mistake made by your inept and lily-wily levered leaders.
And that is where your problem lay- not letting sleeping dogs lie. Well I feel no regret about nigeria, at least i am smart enough to understand that biafra would have been a failed state if they had been allowed to seceded- so why secede?

I love the fact that you guys think in small pieces, while i think more complexly, but usually your best defense is how young and naive I am. Your dumb ojukwu came in declaring a war without exact plans on what would happen after biafra, having precedents in a large number of african countries. No plans of organization of the new country. I am sure immediately after the war, ojukwu would have been president- then immediately problems of relinquishing of power- like most African countries would come up- then people from enugu would say the are being marginalized by people from anambra, then anambra would want to break away from biafra, then the never ending cycle of war continues. Yorubas were smart enough to fight for one nigeria because we believed it could work despite all odds.

That is exactly why I do not engage teenagers and teeny boppers in serious meaningful discourse online. They are usually imbeciles who are oblivious of their buffoonery, especially when they have no rational and experienced adult to explicate the need to understand life's grey areas. They throw up their disconcerting infantile drivel with so much certainty and authority. Fortunately, most of them grow up and are able to look back and shudder.
abeg go a way- why will i want to debate with you? because you saw my age,i am sure i am always right.

That war was a Nigerian tragedy. May the souls of ALL nigerians lost in that war, be they Igbos, Hausas, Yorubas, Edos, Ogonis, or from any of the more than 250 different tribes in Nigeria, rest in peace.
Thank you- as if every yoruba person was thinking about how to kill igbo people.

And everything includes women and children abi?^^^
sadly in war yes. There are some evil people that would harm children and women- you should know that before you go into war. Are you guys naive children?? shocked shocked shocked

By the way, I strongly believe that the igbos have been marginalized in nigeria, but that is the fault of both other tribes and the political elite which consist of igbos and yorubas and hausas

I want to see no Red Cross, no Caritas, no World Council of Churches, no Pope, no missionary and no UN delegation. I want to prevent even one Ibo from having even one piece to eat before their capitulation. We shoot at everything that moves and when our troops march into the centre of Ibo territory, we shoot at everything even at things that do not move, "

( Benjamin Adekunle. Commander, 3rd Marine Commando Division, Nigerian Army to French radio reporter)
take this for example- this makes sense in the context of a war- when you fight a war please understand the consequences. It is quite simple. The biafra is not the first civil war, and will not be the last either.

However, the OP took it out of context specifically to display his tribalism. Everyone was culpable for the biafran war, the OP fails to mention that

I also need to know their location because it hints towards some sort of bias. That is why naijababes and omar22 are repping peckham. If I talked to people who lived in kensington or the upperclass suburbs of west london, i would definitely get the snooty respone "god forbid- me ke,  south london" smiley

The thought of everyone vacating Peckham! ha!!! it would be a gold mine for the Government, knowing that its a stone throw from Victoria, Blackfriars or London Bridge, it would almost match Canary Wharf
so why has no one taken advantage of its strategic position?

Men Europeans have really screwed with the thinking processes of Africans otherwise you would not be talking the way you are
Yes they have  huh huh huh. or just maybe it could be your inability to think?

Do not put words into my mouth- i meant another kind of failure anyways. I wouldn't bother elaborating. Because some Africans have decided to criticize some aspects of African culture while praising some aspect of western culture the african is brainwashed. I mentioned why i am taking such a stance if u are so obssessed with europeans why did you move to their country? Usual nigerian response "their economy- better jobs, better facilities, not their culture," what caused the better jobs, better infrastructure? Then Blaming african leaders and opening up threads about obasanjo and company as if only one man can steal alone without the significant support of his followers.

Nigerian culture has its beauty and its faults- one of it is our inability to be independent, usually depending on some form of government just based on the primitive communal thinking. The people in peckham dont need the British government to improve their living standards or the ridiculously high crime rates.

I believe i have the right to criticize and state ways of improving my culture, even if it involves merging other elements, however that does not make me a brainwashed african. it just makes me an enlightened one.

Nigerians have superiority complex towards other nigerians and inferiority complex towards white people . . . its unfortunately the consequence of western brainwashing . . .
good excuse for failure. very innovative- has obviously never been used b4. western brainwashing my ass

are you talking about when the old North Peckham Estate was available, now its being demolished, Houses in Peckham are more expensive than houses in Greenwich, Charlton, Woolwich, Lewisham, Bromley etc calling Peckham a cheap area is an over statement,
no, i was referring to a thought experiment in which everyone left peckham- obviously the houses would be uninhabited and therefore free (property of the government) , giving a real estate company the chance to acquire it at a cheaper rate from the government as a result.
Travel › Re: When Did Peckham (In London) Get Annexed By Nigeria? by SEFAGO(m): 11:00am On Nov 13, 2009
I don't r'ber big businesses being in Peckham (maybe they'd all moved before I lived at Peckham)in fact most of the businesses in Peckham are naija owned all of which pay taxes to Southwark Council and the central government.
obviously peckham has had a thriving nigerian population since the mid-16th century  grin grin grin right b4 there was a nation called nigeria. I dont mean standard big business but just a thriving industry.

I am inclined to think that if the Naijas in Peckham all took flight it will  then become really derelict and run down.

If you don't believe me then you need to visit white ghettos in northern towns. Plus the video does not show the residential parts of Peckham so I don't understand what folks expect to see in a market clip
prolly but most likely not. If nigerians disappear- some smart real estate company would develop the place nicely into a residential area/business district, invite companies to invest in this cheap area or sell it to the British class looking for an under-crowded location, b4 you know it, it would be a thriving city. But yes, i think the market clip was biased- but the video was propaganda anyways and not meant to shown anything good about peckham.

I dont know why the hatred about Peckham, is it becaue its filled with Nigerians or West Indians? people talk as if the same as Mushin Olosho or the Old Oshodi market,
yeah i would agree 100% that peckham gets a lot more bad rep because of the ethnicity of its inhabitants.
