It is quite ironic, that those accusing one of a crime, are twice as guilty as the accused.

I would state that about 10% of the people on Nairaland are tribalistic trolls. The problem is that it is obvious for example, that becomrich and jona, are having the time of their lives making you guys get hot and bothered over silly things. These people are probably not real tribalists, but ones exploiting your basic instincts.

hunger is different from hunger. If americans are unable to eat 3 square meals a day that is hunger. 1 in 7 american is struggling to put egg, milk, bacon, cheese and sausage grin

ments of desperation.you are being childish, because you lost your sista, you became frustrated and now you wanted mariam dead because ibb embezzled 9ja money.,see,im a muslim and i believe whatever good or bad comes is only an act of God,it comes from God only,we have all lost dear ones due to one reason or the other.Even if your sister were to be flown abroad,it doesnt mean she would live til today.,stella was healthy when she went for plastic surgery abroad but she died in the process.Only God decide who lives or dies so wishing a fellow human evil or death is a sin before God,sorry for your lost and lets pray for mariam's recovery,.May your sista soul rest in peace
shocked shocked shocked. Anyways , so we want maryam to die quickly so that she can meet God quickly. Isn't heaven suppose to be better than earth? So I want the best for Maryam Babangida, let her die kiya kiya, so that she can rest in the beautiful bosom of the lord. She will rest there with dele giwa and company where they will be chasing her with whip, and torementing her forever. I really hope for this reason that there is an afterlife

I also want to comment on your wickedness Bluetooth, you don't want maryam to enjoy the pleasures of heaven. Why such wickedness?

As they say, everyone wants to go to heaven, but no one wants to die.

Dont look for trouble- did you read my posts on the previous page- I gave a balanced account of the civil war so that when the history is balanced, we can discuss how we can prevent such a horrible incident happening

You've just earned my first respect.
cannot buy garri

We all want positively different outcomes, so we must start to do things differently.

The modern military should not be a dumping ground for dunces (I stress that this is not a northern characterisation), we need intelligent and educated soldiers, where we have established that capacity needs to be developed for some groups then that is what we should do, rather than lowering standards.

Sefago- Balance and transparency are needed in our armed forces and polity. I concur that a lopsided army can't be a good thing. Pride in ones ethnicity is also not a bad thing, the problems occur when ethnicity is used to cheat, denigrate and exclude others.
We also need resources to fund such a mass project of educating the North. While I agree that equal and fair representation of major and minority tribes should be a priority, i also wonder about the feasibility itself. And we also have to consider and respect the islamic past of the North. Unlike beaf, I dont believe in putting the parents of innocent mallam children in jail, but I do agree that something needs to be done about the low educational levels in the North because this has fuelled their xenophobia against igbo people in general.

If I was going to present my own humble opinion, I would push for, in addition to what beaf said except for the evil parts he wanted to do on the poor northerners, considering the fact I am not as evil as he is, to create a more nationalistic drive in the vein of the type pursued by the Ataturk of turkey.

Nationalism is lacking in Nigeria, and the less people identify them as one ethnic group and more as the other, then trouble arises. I think it is time for us to let go of the past- the names of yoruba, igbo, ijaw, itsekiri and hausa are names of the past and inconsequential to the present time. I agree there is nothing wrong with ethnic pride but most often this pride leads to hate.

Then for secondary schools ;Atlantic hall,Olashore,Loyola,Adesoye,VF,Trinity,Whitesands,Lagoon,Grace High,Corona,Grange,Greensprings.
All expensive schools that dont really produce quality students. Except for LJC of course. And I am speaking from experience- brothers and sisters who attended half of these schools on the list, and I had the opportunity to examine their students relative to my less expensive secondary school.

What safeguards can be adopted, so no ethnicity or geopolitical zone dominates any of our armed forces again?

I suggest that the armed forces should have equal contribution from each of our political zones. I think such a move will mean that the armed forces will no longer be able to mobilise against fellow citizens.
That would be difficult considering the complexity of our geopolitical zones, and the difficulty would arise from some people claiming they have a larger number of people in their geopolitical zone and should contribute more people to the army(This is a thought, not what i am want). However, i think it is a good idea. I would suggest something more radical - but then i would be called crazy, so i would keep my mouth shut. It has been tried in other countries, though most are not as diverse as nigeria and so would probably now work here.

Also, some geopolitical zones have the tendency to produce more people in the army. For example, the north would have more people in the army because they have lower educational levels than people from the south and so would end up making a significant number of the Nigerian army since such a career doesn't need much schooling. Also if we want to consider having a meritorious society, then less people from the north would be able to penetrate upper level ranks in nigerian armies because to be sincere, they have lower educational levels. This would consequently lead to the north feeling marginalized and blaming it on one tribe- while ignoring the fact that is particularly their fault- which leads us to another civil war.

I think the problem comes from trying to strike a balance between a society in which people are given positions based on their merits and not their ethnicity, as is the case in Nigeria. Because if we used a purely meritorious system, the south would dominate every aspect of Nigerian sphere- not because there is anything inherently special- but because of significant educational attainment compared to the north. The north will not accept this.

Fixing Nigeria isn't just about quota systems and trying to balance things out, for example, but for us to understand that there is strength in diversity. There is nothing fundamentally wrong with a northern dominated army, or southern one- however it does have consequences.

No! You have been advocating massacre and rape.

If you hadn't come in with your deliberate total deafness, you would have heard that message right from the first page. But instead, you introduced mockery and challenges of war to people who are seeking redress; that is why you have rightly been accused of playing games and being in the mould of Goebbels.
Don't blame others for your shortcomings.
Say what you want to say- the records are here, except you change them grin grin grin. Rightly accused by whom- Eziachi or onlylie grin grin grin. Na lie, if you were seeking redress, you would have read my posts critically and see all along that i was asking for peace because the alternatives would be a massacre. My allusion to massacres, was warped by the cabal of exiachi, onlytruth and you to that of advocating for a massacre.

Read the first 5 pages, and then comeback and state your lies again. But how can you, I or any one here debate stuff like this anyways- if we could stoop so low to such tribalistic pettiness (I am aware that i have been a bit childish). You now want to discuss without bias this issue that concerns nigeria, when you have displayed characteristics of tribalism no different than that of becomrich.

If you are unable to consider possible scenarios from the action of ignorant men, misconstruing them as the actual intention of the person positing the argument, how will you be able to debate such issues? If you are ignorant about historical facts except the ones, that fit your argument- how can you debate this issue objectively?

You have lost all claims to objectivity itself, both you, onlytruth, I, Eziachi have displayed what is wrong with nigeria itself- the fact that everyone thinks between ethnic lines. Even from the fact that you avoided the biased posts of other people indicate that you are not interested in considering ideas totally different from yours

These massacres are a macabre symptom of the things that are seriously wrong at the very heart of our union. We desperately need to sort it out; the same wrong headed thinking is stopping us from developing. We must either draw each other closer or go our seperate ways. It will cost much less to sort things out than to reach for the massacre button like a colony of savages and sub-humans; one day those pushed to the wall will inevitably react (as is beginning to happen with the descendants of the civil war Igbo's and the ND minorities)
What I have been saying for ages huh. After being admonished for your tribalism, you are now speaking the rhetoric of peace. I am happy anyways- we should definitely discuss, how we can live together peacefully; as i said that, we were bound and staying together is more econmically viable for Africa itself.

Now in my own limited opinion (considering the fact I dont want to get insulted), I feel what the igbo people need is a united massive non-violent protest, in which their leaders state what problems they have with other nigeria. If no one wants to listen, they should document their grievances- with propaganda of genocide, and go to several human right organizations, and international organization. making them aware of the plight of igbo people in Nigeria. Agreed sweeping dirt under a carpet cannot help solve a problem, but no-action yields a similar result.

Within Eastern Nigeria (Biafra), General Ojukwu’s tactics led to a quick alienation of many talented Ibos. From the very beginning, he set out to establish his authority with a heavy hand. Under his orders Dr. Michael Okpara, the popular former civilian Premier of Eastern Nigeria, was clamped in jail. So were a number of his ministers. The only notable exception was the former Attorney General, Mr. C. C. Mojekwu, Ojukwu’s kinsman, whom he retained and made Biafra’s Minister of Interior
I like, I like  grin grin grin, Igbo people were you dey, see how your leaders are the cause of your problemshuh

Avid for power, he paid more attention to the politics of the war than to the one basic question of security. Biafra’s efforts were trimmed to his size and through much of the conflict reflected his own strength as well as his own weaknesses. This personification of the struggle and the lethal cloud of illusion, which it created around him, were to persist until the end. Thus on the same day as his more down-to-earth successor, General (Phillip) Effiong, signed the formal act of Biafra’s surrender, General Ojukwu was still declaring: “While I live, Biafra lives. If I am no more, it would be only a matter of time for the noble concept to be swept into oblivion.
You be God?

Igbo paranoia  undecided undecided undecided

http://www.nytimes.com/1987/07/14/world/few-traces-of-the-civil-war-linger-in-biafra.html

In 1966, anti-Ibo rioting, largely by Hausas, killed about 30,000 Ibos and created about a million Ibo refugees. During the ensuing civil war, it was fear of renewed killing that kept many Ibos fighting.

But after Biafra's collapse, the massacres did not take place. Yakubu Gowon, then Nigeria's President, declared a policy of ''no victor and no vanquished.''
''I must say Nigeria has done a good job,'' said Benjamin Odogwu, an Ibo who served as Biafra's Director of Military Intelligence shocked shocked shocked. ''The war was fought in all viciousness (very peace loving igbos). We were surprised by the reception, the embraces.''
How won't you be surprised when you were fed propaganda. probably the guy is in lagos, enjoying himself grin grin grin. Or maybe na eziachi?

Igbo Tribalism

In the mid-1960s economic and political instability and ethnic friction characterized Nigerian public life. In the mostly Hausa north, resentment against the more prosperous, educated Igbo minority erupted into violence. In September 1966, some 10,000 to 30,000 Igbo people were massacred in the Northern Region, and perhaps 1,000,000 fled as refugees to the Igbo-dominated east. Non-Igbos were then expelled from the Eastern Region (Even tribes who did not harm you).
