My reservations about moving to the UK

- I hate being at the mercy of others. Going to the UK on a spousal permit means losing my German residency and I'll be at her mercy. As should anything go wrong with the relationship , I'll have to leave the UK.

- Getting a professional job. It doesn't make sense to go to the UK and continue to be trapped in menial jobs. I have been there and I hardly see Nigerians in professional jobs except those with rich parents. Someone should advice me on that as it could not be a real reflection.

My Reservations about Nigeria

- High rate of startup failure
- Difficulty in getting loans to expand. I have heard they can ask for even your neck in those times. With a lack of collateral, more difficult.

For those asking about my course, Yes it's a STEM degree.

They came because of production volume, not because of species origination. I am reading an article in which Kenyans came to Nigeria and saw Cola being used/celebrated massively by Nigerians (Igbos) and were so shocked that a plant that grows in the wild in their country has such commercial value in Nigeria. Did the kola growing wild in Kenya originate from Yorubaland? In fact, scientifically speaking there is no biogeographical or ecological explanation for a small space of land as Yoruba (actually not all Yorubaland, but mainly Ondo, Ekiti and Osun) to be the exclusive origin of a plant species. What is different between the ecology of Yorubaland vs that of Edoland, Igboland and Cameroon, etc, to warrant Cola species to originate exclusively in Yorubaland? Kola is native to Tropical Africa, especially West and Central Africa, which includes Yorubaland and Igboland.
My last post has already addressed your supposed points. So this epistle is unnecessary.

If you have the exact highly demanded specie of a crop naturally in your environment, does it make any sense to still migrate far to purchase it from another people? Nobody does that Mr Man!

Are you trying to say no regions have any exclusive plant or crop in Tropical West Africa? This is not restricted to plants alone, go and do a research on the endangered Apes specie only found in Cross River Nigeria. Nature is more complex than you see it. It will shock you that even in the same region, some areas have a particular native plants that you have to migrate from your own area to get. It doesn't mean if you bring those plants to your areas they won't grow though. In ancient and the medieval ages, 'issues' have not yet been fully settled... This is why some native doctors migrate even within their areas to get some plants they need.

I trust an average Igboman if you have what the Yorubas have in terms of Kolanut, you will also have many rich generations from Kolanut business like we have in Yorubaland.

Note:: The Ooni was speaking in context of West Africa. Therefore we are discussing West Africa, don't try to smuggle in East Africa please!
CultureRe: Ooni: Make deeper researches about Yoruba-Igbo family ties by seguun(m): 11:47pm On May 10, 2019

Kolanut (Cola acuminata/nitida) is not native to Yoruba. It is native to Tropical Africa extending from West Africa to Congo and East Africa.
Ask yourself how come historically traders from those West African regions all migrated to Yorubaland to purchase Kolanut?

Also it doesn't mean there would be no form of Kolanut speicie in those regions at all. Like we have a particular apple speicie in tropical Africa, but we all know the real deal when we talk of apple and where it originated from.

The Oni was not even talking about origin of crop species. I doubt he knows that subject. I admit, Yorubas grow more kolanut than Igbos. Ya''ll should just admit he was wrong in saying ONLY Yorubas grow kolanut. But Igbos spend more money on kolanut than Yorubas. Case closed.
There is no way the Ooni would mean only Yorubaland plant Kolanut, we all know just about any plant can be planted anywhere in the world with the right technics...The Ooni was surely talking about the Origin of the crop but was only speaking in a somewhat classical manner.

The atmosphere wouldn't permit him to start delving into the detailed analysis of the Oriigin of Species. Every student of history would grab the Oonis's gist without any qualms

The Oni was not even talking about quantity between Yoruba vs others. He was saying quite clearly ONLY the Yoruba produce it and I quote , which is WRONG. Do you get the difference?
Because you now plant it in Igboland doesn't mean it is native to your land. Many crops we plant in Nigeria today were not native to West Africa...i.e Maize, Pawpaw, Casava etc were all brought by the Portuguese.

HIV treatment eliminates risk of passing on virus, landmark study says
By Eliza Mackintosh, CNN
Updated 9:38 AM EDT, Fri May 03, 2019

(CNN) The risk of passing on the HIV virus is completely eliminated by effective drugs treatment, a landmark study has shown, in a significant boost to the prospects of ending the AIDS pandemic.

A study of nearly 1,000 gay male couples, where one partner with HIV took antiretroviral therapy (ART), found that no new cases of transmission to the HIV-negative partner during sex without a condom.

PrEP can 'significantly' reduce HIV rates across populations, study says
Over the course of the eight-year study, 15 men were infected with HIV, the virus which causes AIDS. But genetic tests showed the transmissions were a result of the HIV-negative men having sexual relations with someone other than their regular partner.

The report, published in The Lancet medical journal, shows that using ART to suppress HIV virus to undetectable levels renders it incapable of transmission during sex, according to the researchers.

If everyone in the world with HIV knew their status and had access to effective treatment, no new cases would occur, the study suggests.

"What this study really shows is that risk of transmission is zero with ART treatment and that's quite new and important," said Alison Rodger, a professor at University College London who co-led the research.

An earlier study showed the drugs protected heterosexual couples where one partner was HIV-positive; the latest research completes the picture, Rodger said. "The question has been definitively answered, there is no need for further research It's not often we get to say that. Finding ways to get the knowledge in practice is what we need to do next." There was still considerable work to be done to ensure everyone who has HIV can access testing and treatment, she added.

More evidence treatment zeroes HIV transmission during sex while the world awaits a vaccine

Other experts in the field welcomed the results. "These important results serve to inspire and challenge us. Timely identification of HIV-infected people and provision of effective treatment lead to near normal health and lifespan and virtual elimination of the risk of HIV transmission," Myron S. Cohen, a professor at the UNC Institute for Global Health and Infectious Diseases at Chapel Hill in North Carolina, who conducted the study of heterosexual couples, wrote in a commentary published in the Lancet.

But he cautioned that stigma, homophobia and other social forces have meant that getting tested for HIV and accessing treatment is not always possible, particularly for men who have sex with men. Additionally, diagnosis of HIV in the early stages of the infection is still challenging, compromising treatment as a prevention strategy, Cohen said.

Earlier this year, during his February State of the Union address, President Donald Trump announced an ambitious plan to eliminate HIV transmissions in the United States in the next 10 years. Central to Trump's multi-agency initiative is the early diagnosis, prevention and treatment of HIV.

Trump's plan to end America's HIV epidemic by 2030, explained

While health experts applauded Trump's effort, many have also criticized the White House for cutting funding for HIV/AIDS programs in the past. Millions of dollars were shifted away from HIV/AIDS prevention programs last year.

In March, Trump requested $291 million for the project in his 2020 budget, though this sum is not guaranteed. At the same time, he proposed slashing funding to HIV programs through the President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) by$1.35 billion overall, according to an analysis by the Kaiser Family Foundation, a nonprofit group that researches health care and other issues.

Still, Cohen expressed optimism about HIV treatment, underlining that antiretroviral drugs have become more effective, reliable, durable, easier to take, well tolerated and much less expensive.

"The results of the... study provide yet one more catalyst for a universal test-and-treat strategy to provide the full benefits of antiretroviral drugs. This and other strategies continue to push us toward the end of AIDS."

PoliticsGateman Rejects House Offer For Borehole In His Community In Jigawa by seguun(op): 12:03pm On Apr 25, 2019
A gateman, Musa Usman, has rejected a house offer as parting gift from his boss whom he served for 25 years, requesting for a borehole for his community instead.

Usman, who hail from Giljimmi, a Fulani settlement in Birniwa local government area of Jigawa state, lives with his family in a thatch house.

Usman, who served the Indian national, the Managing Director of a pharmaceutical company, Jawa International Limited in Lagos for 25 years, left the services of his boss in order to reunite with his family in the village.

When Usman was leaving, the Managing Director of the Jawa Internatiinal Limited, Mr. V. Verghese, decided to build a house for him as part of appreciation for his diligent service while he was his gateman but Usman, whose community is suffering from acute water shortage, rejected the offer of the house and asked for the construction of borehole for his people instead.

People in Usman’s community, who hitherto had to trek for long distance to fetch drinking water are now having drinking water in the community.

In his address at the commissioning of the borehole, Mr. Verghese, said his decision for the parting gift was as a result of high degree of honesty exhibited by Usman while he was working for him, saying there was never a time when any of his items ever missed in the house for the period he had stayed with him.

“Musa has served me diligently for 25 years. We will travel to India and leave our house under his care and behold, we will meet everything intact. He is indeed, a honest Nigeria.”

In his address, Usman, thanked Mr. Verghese, for the kind gesture, saying there was no regret in rejecting the house offer.

So many unanswered questions...

Where were the people he was negotiating the animals from?

Was he there among the animals in the bush along with the sellers yet he was arrested?

Most professional livestock deallers usually have their ID cards even when they are not educated

How about the money he went with?, or if he had bought his animals. These are supposed to be his strong evidence for his lawyer.

How about their market association back home? How come they did not rally round him to proof to government that he is one of their members who travelled up North to procure new stock.

Sincerely if he has all these answered well yet his lawyer couldn't get him freed after few months or one or two years, then he should be angry with his lawyer and not the government per say.

Just thinking aloud...If the black box can withstand a very heavy impact and fire, then aircraft manufacturers should embed each passenger's seat with a black box enough to contain a person (probably pop out from below in emergencies) with inbuilt oxygen, that can equally withstand heavy impact and fire.

Aircraft with this facilities may be more expensive like we have bullet proof cars. But I think they can do it.
