Guys, I'm thinking of putting Windows 7 on my pentium 4 desktop pc currently running Windows XP (service pack 2)

Questions are will XP drivers work for windows 7? and does Windows 7 use less RAM resources than XP? The PC is slow although it has 1gb ram and a 320gb HDD (partitioned into 2 - 180/140). . .processes like copying, opening folders & documents, running apps etc take forever compared to the same processes on my lapy (2gb ram, 250gb HDD). Is the speed basically a function of the RAM (I nor get money to upgrade the RAM o) or will a windows 7 run faster on my desktop even if it's just marginally? I need an answer quickly cos I wanna install the windows 7 tonight when my Gen will be on from 8pm - 12am.
