Lexusgs430:
Make others put mouth for this DL/Vehicle matter........😜
I no be government spokesperson........😛😜🤣
This is an attempt at collating about driving license
DVLA on YouKay gov: Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency
Please not inserts within {} into original post
Temi231:

You do not change from a Nigeria license to a UK license. The first thing you need to do is to apply for UK provisional driving license
2. Apply for the Uk theory test which you need to pass before you can be ready for the practical driving test
3. Apply for the practical driving test once you pass your theory test.

All these must be done within one year of your arrival in the UK {else you stop driving with the international DL}
Lexusgs430:

- Get a provisional licence
- Start preparing for your theory test
- After you pass the theory test
- Pay a driving instructor or buy a vehicle, then get a friend/enemy, with a full DL of over 3 years to instruct you (if using a friend/enemy). Once you perfect your driving skills, get a licenced instructor to top up (possibly 5 lessons).....

Once you get positive FB, about your ability to drive, coordination, adherance/understanding of the highway code.......
BOOK A { PRACTICAL DRIVING } TEST (hopefully you would pass at 1st attempt)........

NB: Your theory test, once passed..... Expires after 2 years...... {if practical driving not passed within the two years, you must retake the theory}
{NB} Also ensure your vehicle is fully legal, before you hit the road.......
Lexusgs430:
Once you obtain a full DL, it's subject to renewal every 10 years ........
You don't do another test, you simply pay, tick boxes and submit your application (not unless your license is subject to a revoking order)...... Then you might be required to undergo a medical examination etc etc ....
Lexusgs430:

{Ensuring vehicle is legal}
- Insurance (yearly)
- MOT (yearly) Not required for {new} vehicle's under 3 year's
- Road Fund licence (yearly)
- Servicing (ongoing)
- Petrol/Electricity/Diesel
bigtt76:
So what he's say is that {when it comes to driving 8n he YouKay }
1. You can't drive on provisional licence without a fully licensed person sitting next to you when driving.
2. As part of the getting full drivers license, you need to first do a theory test and practical test thereafter and if successful in both you will be issued a full dL.
3. On the other hand, if you do a theory test and pass, you need to do the practical test within a 2 years time frame else the theory test result expires and you need to resit it.
4. Your full dL last for 10 years. Renewal is all about ticking boxes and paying the fees except you were indicted and required to do some test. 😂
Lexusgs430:
You sabi book........😜
And to add finally....... Whilst been instructed in your own vehicle, L plates] MUST be clearly displayed on the front and rear of the vehicle.........😂
{prepare for YouKay theory driving test}
Lexusgs430:
All you need is an app, from the playstore...... (cannot remember the app name)........
I think it's called 4 in 1 theory test (don't quote me)...... grin
NB: Simply dig through thread, other questions you might need to ask in the future, have already been answered....... cheesy
jum33:
Search for "DVSA official test kit" on your playstore .
MadeMen4Life:
... ... Gratitude to the man that suggest I buy The Yellow Theory Test Pro, it seems as though they copied from the app to the website… grin grin grin

I want to start a new career in IT, but I'm not sure which field to go into between data analysis and cyber security. Which one would you recommend for someone looking to change career and might also be easy to secure sponsorship.
Talking of changing career, what field are you coming from or what experience(s) do you have. One thing about Cybersec which is equally more applicable to data analytics is that you can make use of data analytics within other fields (including Cybersec). Some of the gurus in Cybersec make use of their previous background within Cybersec: take for instance AML or Privacy
PS: Cybersec is a wide field in itself. Data analytics is largely horizontal cutting across many domains, although (along with data science) it's having its own vertical.

You might or you might not: (I presume you're referring to research PhD). It'll depend on the university, on the discipline, on the department. Better to contact the department your interest is in.

If you buy out of mortgage, the world is your oyster 🦪. You do want you 'want'!
If you buy with standard mortgage, you get crab cover from your lender, which restricts you on what you can do. Typically, you're restricted to rent out. I hear people dey rent out though! However, it's better to engage your mortgage lender to get what's called consent to let. See Shaybebaby response.
If your mortgage lender is forming woke, initiate a mortgage switch. You might even end up with a better rate along with the consent to let. PS: not guaranteed.

Should you join a union because of this, not necessarily. Can you, yes, you may. Most unions might see you as joining them to be used. However, you can reach out to a union in your new (prospective) employer (you indicated NHS). They might be keen! No guarantees!!

As regarding whether you should swap your 3rd reference (current employer) or whether you should engage your new prospective employer, I honestly cannot say. I still need to think this hard. However, can you, yes, you can. Should you, that comes with lotta options/scenario evaluation.

Your contract extracted
2. Should you no longer be interested in sponsorship then please do let us know as a matter of urgency. Solicitor and Home Office fees 100% repayable AND Office Admin Charges applies. The Skilled Worker Visa for the Employee terminating the contract early is revoked.
3. NVQ2-4 Training Fee repayment.
4. COS Charges

It appears your current employer's Solicitor is not adept in labour law, although might be versed in law. Certain aspects will fall by the wayside at the Employment Tribunal. However, is that where you want to end, I supposed not.

The 4. COS Charges ought not to be written as they've done. It exposes them to scrutiny of the Home Office. Scrutiny in the sense that, you've exonerated them from asking you to pay for your CoS when you were joining the.

Regarding no 3, NVQ 2 to 4 training, did your current employer sent you for this trainings beforehand or even after joining them. Seemly, the wording suggest that these trainings were provided before joining. Can they claim, yes, they can. Is it ethical, probably not.
If the training was before the commencement, without them, you can determine the approximate simply by
- checking the training provider site/brochure, deduce the training price and certificate
- requesting a quote from the training provider as just like any interested person in their training program
If, the training was provided after you joined your current employer, you can checked if per chance, these costs were in the correspondences between you and your current employer when you were being sent for these trainings.
PS: For both (pre or during employment) your employer ought to provide you with these costs irrespective.

When it comes to no 2. Two things can pan out
Await your current employer to feedback to you from or through their Solicitor, since they've indicated to you that they are consulting their Solicitor. Follow up with them about a week after; if they've not reverted back to you.
You can actualised no. 2, by sending them a termination notice (0ne month or gracious 2 mths). They are obliged to accept and finalise no 2 exit clause. They are now duty bound to give you 'due costs' with breakdown. PS: this comes with attendant risk of hedging your new prospective employer of proceeding with a job offer (and ultimately their (NHS) CoS sponsorship).

In the aftermath of your current employer 'refusing' to write a reference for you, you can follow YouKay ACAS suggestions here

The no 1, is interesting. It leaves room for ambiguity. The joy of every lawyer!!!
You indicated you've spent upward of 1yr. The extract of your contract stated that ... you have 3 yrs sponsorship in the instant, and expectation/guaranteed 2 yrs after.
Technically, you have 'servanthood' of 3 yrs at the moment. To become 'bond free', you must serve out the remaining two years or buy out the remaining 2yrs.
Obviously, your current employer Solicitor will assert that you have an obligation of 5yrs and that you must serve it out. They have a point. However, I'm certain, they are mistaken inadvertently or intentionally!
If and should they insist that you must serve out the full years (which remain less than 4yrs), or even if they agree that your bond years is 3yrs, and that you must serve it out, then, they've pushed themselves to another corner of the ring for a jab and possible KO. Why, because be demanding serving out the bond years without an option of 'buy out', you can conveniently inform them that they are perpetrating modern day slavery. You can report them accordingly should they persists or remain adamant. Read more on modern day slavery
NB: They will certainly fight back on this. In all certainty, their attack will be on technicalities (of definition of 'modern slavery'. Well, you stick to an aspect of modern slavery as defined in the Modern Slavery Act ... servitude or required to perform forced or compulsory labour ...

Lastly, as to whether you can seek and get another CoS, yes you can. What you however cannot do is to run them concurrently. You must update your Skilled Worker visa. [link]: See YouKay gov
All the best. Remain optimistic and prayerful
PS: this is not a binding legal advisory as contemplated in law
DeeOneBangin:
... ... I am currently employed in a domiciliary care company with sponsorship (I did not pay) and after spending a year with the company, I have decided to move on. Luckily for me I have found a better job with sponsorship and all pre employment checks have been fulfilled. According to my prospective HR, the only thing remaining for me is to provide 3 references and then we proceed to CoS stage.
I have provided my prospective employer with the 3 referees as requested ( 2 from previous employers and 1 from current employer). The 2 previous employers have responded and I have gotten a confirmation that it has been accepted. It remains only my current employer and after talking to him about it, he said he would not attend to the reference and he [b]would have to talk to his lawyer first because the contract says I have to work in his company for 5 years.[/b]

Attached is a screen shot of the contract that I signed and I am ready to abide by it.
Please guys I need your response on what to do as I believe he wants to waste my time.

Can I also inform my prospective employer of the current situation and ask if they are happy to proceed to CoS stage with the 2 references that they already have OR if I can provide a 3rd reference from another previous employer in the UK?
Do I need to join a union because of this issue?

I believe Koonbey is spot on. Thanks 👍🏽
For now, just play along, move with the flow, while doing the needful: record electronically and keeping a journal record. If, careful not to say when, the time comes, you'll need the recordings and journal.
You wrote ... he said that he doesn't want to involve the home office
Make e go that route, and let's see who for score own goal.
You wrote ... He said ... That we should seat to discuss and negotiate way forward. (I don't know what he wants to propose)
Follow the conciliatory route but watch your back fully guarded even more than Eph 6 indicated. If you don't and matter gets to ACAS or employment Tribunal, you'll be portrayed as adversarial

However, with all of this, though you've got labour law back, I'll still say, now that you have YouKay experience, it's time to explore other sponsorship. Not because of your MD, but for your sanity, wellbeing, family and the baby.
#IreeO
koonbey:
Record your conversations with this person and keep them.
What he's doing is illegal. There's absolutely nothing for him to report you to HO about.

That being said, he has control over your shifts and could deny you shifts, which would be illegal, but difficult to prove. If I were you, I'd try the conciliatory approach just because that's always better, but keep it in your mind that you might need to explore 'legal steps', hence the recordings.
Someone has sent a link to a resource you should find useful if it comes to that.
Noworries11:
... ... We are 5weeks preg, informed MD my fellow naija but instead got threatened that sponsorship will be withdrawn because we concealed the preg to collect COS.

I still do not understand, I should have aborted? coz of work? Or the law restricts me from taking in. He said, he will speak to his lawyer and that he doesn't want to involve the home office (home office sabi I am married nah, dem get our data) that do we know what it means if he involves them?
That we should seat to discuss and negotiate way forward. (I don't know what he wants to propose)
... ...
[UPDATED]
Regarding recording, generally recording is not permissible, yet not totally illegal! However, in the instant where you're an affected person, not just interested person, like in this instance, you are 'entitled' for your protection. Should you share it with others, even inadvertently, outside of legal process, well, be ready for the consequences.
NB: YouKay has several (different) laws that touch on recording! Navigating them is a landmine on its own. Just move on the basis of all-parties consent when wanting to record generally. For personal safety/protection, pls do within the limitation that you have a duty of care to safeguard the recording reaching third-party (even spouse!!)
You can read a bit more online, starting with this one

In SA, AFAIK, you can finish your (research) MSc in 1 year or 2. Ensure you're focus on the research. Get publications, whether conferences and/or journal (but not predatory). Towards the end of your thesis, apply to the European countries you desire for your PhD. You stand a good chance.

As regarding your postdoc friend, he needs to be #transparent with you. Between you two, you must know the name of the dept/university, the potential supervisor. 8f your friend will be the supervisor, you need to know. Most likely (s)he might be a co-supervisor. MA has now spend 5 yrs in the YouKay on the Skilled Worker visa, now want to apply for ILR (not earlier than 28 days B4 clocking 5yrs).
The MA would proceed with their ILR. Dependent will continue to renew their dependent visa.
The following year, the dependent now clocking 5 yrs and having not breached the 180days out of the UK clause, will be eligible for ILR.
Though not reading in 'plain' English, YouKay gov got you covered: https://www.gov.uk/indefinite-leave-to-remain-family/partner-dependant-work-visa

2 visa status, cannot run concurrently...... Is this student, going to abandon their education.......😂😁

You asked this on 14 Apr without a response. Not saying that's what it is, but it might be because people are busy and expect you to search or browse through the thread.
PS: tier 2 has 'metamorphise' to skilled worker.
lightofjoy:

Pls for a student whose dependent gets a tier 2 sponsorship just 3 months into the program and of which he definitely switch with the dependant. Can the student work full time now with the new tier 2 dependant visa?. Hope no issue for the student during ILR, pls anyone who has experience this, kindly share experience.
TL;DR: the student is now a dependent of a skilled worker and they're entitled to work and study.
The following, among many, might throw light

koonbey:
Yes. As a dependent you have unlimited right to work any job/any skill level including self employment and voluntary work, (except the usual restrictions on working as a doctor or dentist in training or as a professional sportsperson/coach).

While the Elders pronounce, let's quickly chip in. One would have thought that the info is straightforward. However, typical, the gov.uk is 'silence'!!! https://www.gov.uk/skilled-worker-visa/your-partner-and-children

No. They don't need sponsorship.
No. They must have their 'right endorsed' in their BRB. This is straightforward and by default.

[UPDATED]
Link: What your partner or child can and cannot do
Your partner or child can:
- work, except as a sportsperson or coach
- study
- travel abroad and return to the UK
- apply to settle permanently in the UK (also known as ‘indefinite leave to remain’) if they’ve lived in the UK for 5 years and meet the other eligibility requirements
- They cannot apply for most benefits (public funds), or the State Pension.
NB: always check update on the YouKay gov site. Too many rule changes happen!!
