There are over 2000 components in a car. It could be very tricky knowing what this component is unless you state which place in your car you found it. I feel its a sensor or regulator or similar stuff.

wow!! I'm glad siena responded to my post ! The cars runs normally so I'm suprised!! Only what I notice is dat the RPM drops when I engage drive and drops further when I switch on de AC, could dat be d probable cause?

bro, I've checked online for fire detector in 1999 toyota camry and I can't seem to see anything like dat....pls any more suggestions

I jst saw that this component in my Toyota Camry 1999 was disconnected and it looks like a sensor to me. Pls I want to knw what is the exact fucntion of this component, and why it should be reconnected....thanks..awaiting experts advice

Bro, get a half Engine its same thing ok? Provided ur alternator, compressor, power steering pump, engine sensor, are all working, there no need to buy complete engine if u are not buoyant. I bought half engine and I'm rocking my camry real tight now....btw, the engines are of 2 types..the 3s and the 5s....the 3s is mostly used by toyota picnic, the 5s is a bigger Engine with more power, its d recommended follow come camry engine! The choice is urs ....thank me later !

Bros, pls kindly check the oil pump...its located inside d engine. And also, does the oil light on ur dash board takes much tym before it goes off?? Pls observe carefully aN change dat oil pump before u kill dat engine. Perhaps d oil pressure is too low and might damage ur top cylinder anytime soon. Thanks

Bro, u neva told us wat exactly is d problem, u jst said it has problem. Mind u mechs don't fix AC , Ac has specialists . Most at times experienced auto electricians

Pally, check ur Cambers...it might be d cause of ur problem. Simple test use ur leg or hand to push d tyre forward or backward, if its shaking den its bad. Jst a suggestion to troubleshoot. Try it !!

What is ur budget ?

Since the other components are working, u can go for Half n Top, I think it wil be lesser. Tokunbo engines are very reliable, provided u get a good grade, it turns d car to brand new !!

If u knw wat is a brake disc, u can look at ur rear wheels if it has one, if its nt visible then u knw ur car has a drum brake system behind. Brake disc wit calipers at d rear wheels are mostly common in V6 models of cars coz d calipers n disk are sharper brake system than d drum brakes so it can halt d speed of a V6 engine faster than a drum rear brake. My 99 camry v6 is having same problem black smoke,high fuel consumption.i just change the oil and oil filter,spark plug. d problem still persist, pls help me my mechanic is exploiting me by servicing d nozzle and injector but it still smoke and drag on low speed.

PALLY, get a good electrician, he wil rectify it for u.....major culprits are 02 sensor and MAF sensor. In my case I serviced injectors, changed plugs, plus plug wire all to no avail until my Electician traced d airflow and fixed it well. I wish u luck bro, keep us posted

Thanks guys, I've fixed it....d problem was wit leaking injectors. The mech misplaced some pipes with some and it go d car misfiring. I'm nw a happy man coz my I4 pulls like a V6

Good evening Nairalanders, pls I jst changed the engine of my toyota camry 1999 model and the engine is working well. But my problem is dat d Car now brings out BLACK SMOKE and Gulps more Fuel than before, pls wat could be the probable cause. Comments needed urgently

I doubt if you just bought this car. If its a car bought from cotonu like you said then definitely it must have had an issue over there or been driven in benin for some time. Now back to your matter. What you are to inspect is

1) your fuel pump
2) your injector noozles
3) am sure there is a miscommunication btw your ECU and immobiliser and your transponder key
4) your igntiion coils-

I just hope there are sparks coming from each igntion coils if other wise try to check them one after the other. If you notice no spark for a particular ignition coil you can swap with another from your car
@ "op" if I were you I would treat every thing that can make this car misfire. Sorry I had to type this way. So tired now

Haba does ur handbrake stop ur car frm rollin wen d car is runnin n engaged in D. Mine doesn't ooo my car ll roll esp if it is on a non level surface. So one needs two hands to get d job done ie d brake must b held.

Yes bro, my hand brake stops it frm moving. Maybe urs needs adjustment if not it should also

Pally, its nt worth dis streSs abeg, I dnt knw d brand of car u have, bt if I were u, I wil go n disconnect d steering pump, and drive d car like dat til u get money to buy the entire steering rack. Coz if u continue to drive d car with dat oil leakage, u wil eventually damage d pump and dats expensive to fix. Jst buy a new steering rack and frget abt working d old one. Steering is quite durable . Thanks

What ur mechanic did is d right thing, dat how I check mine too. I put d car in "D" pull d hand brake and go out n checK d ATF level.
